I think the same goes with many people professing faith and then abandoning that faiths principles as soon as the reward for doing so is high enough.

Many people fall from their deepest held convictions once the going gets tough or the temptations are too big.

Works both ways.
It just confirms Jesus' parable of the sower.

Of course it does. Everything confirms some part of the bible. It's a pretty big book.
Explain the parable of the sower and how it explains that some people who profess faith in Christ fall away.

You're giving out writing assignments now? I already agreed with you.

I bet they had that same problem of people falling from faith for opportunism before Jesus was born. Propably as old as faith itself.

Oh! I thought you knew what the parable of the sower is all about! Perhaps I was wrong to suggest that you relate that parable to what you said about professing Christians falling away from the faith. I over-estimated your knowledge of the Bible!

If you choose to believe that people are ignorant of something just because they don't write up an essay on your cue, I hope that choice works out well for you in the future.

Here is the parable for your information:

That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
(Matthew 13:1-9; 18-23).

This parable gives important clues why many professing Christians fall away from the faith. No surprises there. It is not the fault of the Saviour or His message, it all has to do the type of "ground" the seed of the gospel falls on.

Thank you for taking the time telling me what I already know. Sadly I did not read it, because I already know it. But I appreciate the effort.

Today this tactic is called victim blaming, btw.

Granted. But he was there and related what he saw in his area. I guess the only way to really test the reactions of people would be for them and us to find ourselves in a war zone with shells and bullets flying all around us. Talk is cheap when we are safe and living in peace.
No; talk is cheap when you don’t have to back it up! Would you pray to Shiva if bullets were flying around you? What about Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, or some other fairy tale you don’t believe even exist? Of course not! Nobody is going to appeal to something they are convinced does not exist in their time of desperation! People don’t react that way. Personally I believe your friend was lying, and you are just spreading his lie when you mention it here.

I had a couple of friends who had an experience where he thought they were going to die. Though they said they believed in God, they were probably those type you spoke of earlier who you say aren’t “real” Christians; due to the lifestyle they chose to live. However; they said when they thought they were going to die, they were so wrapped up in trying to get out of that situation that almost resulted in their death, they were so wrapped in trying to take out the people who almost took them out, they didn’t even have time to pray to God! I find it absurd to suggest people who don’t even believe in God are going to all of a sudden appeal to God; when half of the people who DO believe in God don’t do it.

The story your friend told you does not make sense; like I said talk is cheap when you don’t have to back it up.

The actual fact is the death is the elephant in the room. We try to ignore it, but we can't avoid it.

And for the record, so is extinction. As best we can tell, 99.9% of all species that have ever lived on earth have gone extinct. Unless we can successfully colonize other planets, our species will eventually die out, too. (And probably well before the sun becomes a red giant.) It just seems to be nature's way.

That's not exactly a productive way of leaving a discussion.

Often the knowledge that a discussion will be pointless due to the stark unseriousness of the interlocutor can be gleaned from a single post. (Sometimes trolls are easy to spot)

If I said anything that you disagree with, point it out (as I have done with you) and we can have a discussion

Well, It doesn't matter whether I know it or not. The fact is that you know that death will be the end of your existence. There will be no more "you", because that is what you believe and you will maintain that belief whatever anyone else will say.

Actually, it would be quite instructive if you googled the last words of famous atheists to find out what they said just before they died. Somehow I don't think they were going to enjoy the death they were going to have.

If death is the end of life, than to me, it would make purpose and meaning to our life, even more important.

I agree! The fact that I will not always be here is what drives my focus and determination to accomplish now while I am able to. Because if there is always going to be a tomorrow, nothing will ever get done.

Meh, I don't know. I've had 53 years worth of tomorrows
and got quite a lot done. And that's with believing that
this lifespan isn't the only one I'll ever have.

So I suppose it depends on the individual.

Do you suppose you would still have the drive to get things done after a trillion years worth of tomorrows in the same lifespan?
So I suppose it depends on the individual.
Probably; that's why I only speak for myself.

another phrase for purpose/meaning of your life is gods will for your life.

Did god call you to poverty? did he call you to live a humble and simple life? Did he or does have have plans to exalt you? Did he call you to live your life in the public eye like Usain Bolt or Lewis Hamilton? (who both professed their careers are from god) Did he call you to have great wealth like Solomon or Ng Chee Tat Philip?

your purpose for your life is gods will for your life, and we are all called to do something whether big medium or small

Corinthians 12:12
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

I’ve noticed a number of people who are successful in life who claim their wealth or success is a result of God’s will or help, but never have I heard of a person who is either failed or lives in extreme poverty; claim their failure or poverty is God’s will or where God wants them to be. Do you suppose some people just like to give God the credit when things go good, and refuse to blame God when things go bad?
