• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Devin that’s not true. My first doc had a Doc degree at OU.

He wanted patients to take the wheel, do I agree with it. No I look back and wished he had a backbone but I could ask for whatever I wanted and get it.

Granted I never did except I had anxiety and asked to be on benzos.
It was given to me knowing my drug history.

Today I wished that never happened, he passed away at 42 mysteriously.

The doctor, you say, let you choose which medications to take? That is not uncommon, I requested a certain medication when I switched doctors and the doctor agreed. But it was a well known anti-psychotic that I had been on for years. The doctor should ask which medications you have taken in the past.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles. May God bless you in wisdom and working with your doctors. That said, usually what I do is pray that God will guide and inspire my doctors.

By the way, why do you regret being on benzo's? Was it because of withdrawals?

BE CAREFUL with kratom. There was a report today about increasing OD deaths due to kratom. Probably some people are abusing it. The point is ... just because it is a 'herbal' does not make it safe. I know nothing about kratom ... just passing on the latest news.

Christ exists to lighten our burdens.

Blessings!!

Yes the withdrawals and it’s so addictive. I think if I would of never known it’s great potential for anxiety relief I would of found a more safer alternative in anti depressant.

I’m being convicted of Kratom and I’m trying to wiggle my way out of it. If I do have to stop which seems like what’s happening I’m going to wean or just straight up cold turkey it.

I hope I find a doc willing because I’m moving to Virginia, I want the best I can get for me and her. I just know sometimes I cannot function with the amount of anxiety I feel everyday.

Thank You Lord for keeping me alive. I would rather go thru all of it again if that meant coming into a relationship with you.

I suffered terrible anxiety many years back, and I was fine on anti-anxiety meds. I was on Zoloft.

I eat benzos every day. Mild ones, and a minimal amount, but still. Back in the day I was very addicted to them, my tolerance was through the roof, and I abused them (I also drank a lot). The withdrawals were horrible.

I don't abuse them anymore, but I still need them for my anxiety. I've made a plan with a doctor (one that focuses on people with addictions), that whenever he gives me the prescription, that bottle will last X amount of days, and I can only get a new one after that time period. The prescription covers a few bottles, and I go and get a new prescription every year and we talk about how things have been going. I can't abuse them or else I'll run out.

These doctors have (to my surprise, because most would be against it) said that it's okay for me to eat these minimal amounts since it helps me get by and I haven't abused meds or alcohol in years. They're not forcing me to quit. But every time I go for a new prescription, I want to try if a bottle could last X+5 amount of days, and they'll put that in the prescription. A few years ago one bottle lasted 60 days, now it's 90. These rules have been largely self-imposed by me, and naturally the doctors don't have a problem with it. Perhaps one day I'm confident and mentally strong enough to quit them altogether, but in the meanwhile everything is under control, the dose is slowly decreasing and these meds are just a helpful crutch and nothing more. I don't know if anything about this helped you, but I felt like sharing.

I don't believe this is a sin, by the way. We can look at everything and decide it's a sin if we want, but I don't think "what is sin" is some weird puzzle we're supposed to solve. It was a sin when I abused them, because I was destroying myself and eventually it led to a lot of lying and burning of bridges and all kinds of misery. But getting help from medicine is not a sin, if that's what you're doing instead of using them for other purposes. We can take everything that might be good or helpful or normal and turn it into something else, to something destructive or twisted, but that doesn't mean the thing in question is destructive or sinful in itself. It's what we do with it, what's in our hearts and what's the actual issue.

God bless you.
