I wish I could remember the names of the books I have read with the most beautiful quotes from monks, especially those of Athos. Reading their words is the same as reading scripture.

No, but I would take a look at that. This is sold under the title "Saint Silouan the Athonite." Part 2 contains a bunch of St. Silouan's writings, but I'm not there yet. This stuff is from the biography part that just has scattered quotes. Worthwhile. Quite.

It is strange to me to read this book and realize it was written by Archimandrite Sophrony about a different person. It strikes me that both these men likely are worth learning about.

Has anyone on this thread read his On Prayer?

I have not. However, I have it and plan to.

I'm currently going through Elder Sophrony's disciple Elder Zacharias' "Engraving of Christ on Man's Heart" which is amazing so far! I recommend that one for sure.
