The greatest price I paid upon deliverance and reconciliation with God was the loss of my friendships. People I'd known for twenty years were no more. Their absence was the result of differences in belief and the necessity of staying away from behaviors that could bring demonic influences back into my life.

Nevertheless, no amount of platitudes will alter the reality that they are the lone souls who would have stood by me during that battle. No one would have comforted me on a daily basis and spent hours by the phone easing my suffering and joining me in its horrors the way they did. It was an act of love and sacrifice of the highest sort.

I understand your condition and it's hard to grasp for others who haven't experienced the same or don't know absence to that degree. My relationships weren't built on religion. They were founded on love. And that's a different measure of investment and connection.

My only advice to you is to lean into Him. It's a difficult road and His presence will heal your heart and prevent feelings of bitterness from developing. Allow Him to provide the friendship you lack. He's done the same for me and our relationship is richer and deeper as a result.

After reading your posts, I feel like you don't love God. Accusing Him is always the first thought that comes to your mind when things that seem bad happens to you. As a Christian your first requirement is to love God with all your heart, your might and your soul. I will advice you to examine your conscience and your relationship with God. You need to associate with mature Christians to learn more from them. God bless

Hello Tony,
I'm sorry you had to go through this. Sometimes our faith can be shaken due to the events and situations surrounding us...That's why it is so important to have a good foundation so whatever happens we still hold on to God.
Have you tried exploring the Scriptures to find out what really is God's purpose for us? The Bible is such an amazing yet the most misunderstood book...

One of the dominant metaphors I find in the Old Testament is the wilderness and its purpose. Between bondage and the promised land very often lies the wilderness. There we are stripped of our natural strength and forced to rely on His. The comforts are gone, there is only the cloud and the fire to lead, and daily bread.

It's where our faith is stretched, exercised and fed, and where it grows - if we let it. Too many of the Israelites would not let it, and were forced to spend far more time wandering the desert than God had intended. So the challenge to us is to believe in the God who calls out of bondage and to Himself, even when the going gets tough. If you focus on God and believe in His good hand in your life (Heb. 11:6), and not on man or your circumstances or limitations, you will grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord.

Joseph had his dungeon, David had his flight from Saul, but then both were elevated to high positions. 1Cor 10 is clear that all these things have been given as examples to us, lest we lose heart. If you stay faithful in the wilderness, you will see the promised land. The key is to focus on God and His infinite supply of grace, not on the difficulties.

One book you might be interested in is Prison to Praise, by Merlin Carouthers. When he started praising God in his trials, and for the good the trials were going to bring (Romans 8:28), he found the power to overcome and lead a victorious life.

In the Word, Philippians 3 and 4 say a similar thing. Chapter 3 is about forgetting what went before, and pressing on to the high call of God in Christ Jesus. Then chapter 4 tells us to rejoice in all things, and it will be a protection for our hearts. As Nehemiah says "the joy of the Lord is our strength".

It sounds as though you need to be saved from yourself. I thank God every day for saving me from myself and I have a rewarding life to show for it. Here's my approach to walking in the Spirit. It becomes easier with practice.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5) (KJV 1900)

We censor every impure thought or imagination. And change the channel in our thinking on any thought that does not conform to obedience to Christ.

And we replace it with:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Knowing Jesus is God and God is love. So Jesus is lord of our lives when love rules our thoughts and actions.

"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." seems like a cruel joke God keeps playing with my life.

I use to believe this but after losing the only friends I had about 15 years ago I stopped believing this. I have not been to church in 13 years matter of fact I have no church to even go though. I suffer major social issues "Aspergers" and even talking to strangers is very difficult. I use to be saved but now my heart is so bitter. I get upset over everything which rubs off with my family who hold grudges and don't believe in "forgive and forget" so no friends means I have the bitterness of my family to talk too who many times seem not to care or change the subject.

So it seems that I was "born again" 17 years ago but I am now "lost again".
If you were Truly Born Again, you would understand a great deal about death and resurrection. Please start reading The Bible again and seeking The Absolute Truth. Christ is Truth.

what exactly do you want your life to be?

do you genuinely want to have friendships or do you simply feel that you're supposed to have them in order to be acceptable?

if you truly want to have friendships you absolutely can, even with Asperger's! yes, you will have to work harder at it than those who would call themselves neurotypical; it is what it is. it's not fair, but life usually isn't.

there's a guy named nick Vujicic. he was born with no arms or legs and wanted to take his own life at one point. he's now and evangelist and a well-to-do married man with children. the point is there isn't anything that can't be overcome with hard work and dedication. one has to decide if they want to put in the work to make things happen.

if you just feel that you have to have friends to be acceptable, you need to get to a place where your validation, value, and self-worth doesn't come from other people. people are fickle and superficial, the LORD is not. if He has accepted you, than you need no further validation.

i'm a loner myself. no friends whatsoever and I also have Asperger's. Yet, I am in every way content with who I am. my validation, value, and self-worth come from the LORD. it would probably do well for me to have some relationships for the sake of my health(I suppose), but i'm not in a state of loneliness or despair. far from it.

figure out what you want from your life and decide to do whatever it takes to achieve it.

Thanks. Too think Sundays I am the most grumpiest and get really irritated with everyone in my house and depressed.
Why not volunteer helping people? It would take your mind off of yourself and focus it on the well being of others.

Spend time with God. Do you have favorite worship music you can put on? Audio Bible? Pray. Write out some scriptures regarding loneliness, sadness. Do a google search on scriptures for the what you are struggling with today. Look them up. Write them out. Don’t let the irritation rule you. Fight against it.

Thanks. I think I get irritable because Sundays use to be my favorite day of the week then when I left Church it became the most boring day of the week and now with all my stress and life it is becoming the most depressing day of the week.

It doesn’t have to be boring. Do you have YouTube? Find love church services. I’m not a church. Was suppose to be visiting a new church today but my husband’s truck broke so he has my car for work. So have been finding live church services on YouTube to watch. We have to put our feet forward. We have to make things happen. Please don’t let the depression define your days. You have to say abs believe that today is a day the Lord has made. Rejoice! Thank Him for being here today.

Something to remember, we should give thanks for what we have and not complain against God who controls all that pertains to us. The Israelites complained about the life God handed them and spent 40 years taking an 11 day journey until all but two dropped dead.

You can find God through prayer and reading The Bible, even if you don't go to Church. You can pray at home and find God during two hours of honest prayer more than you would by spending an entire day listening to Church sermons. God bless you!

As for reading the bible I use to ignore Romans because as the name applied I though it was only for what the Roman Empire did in the day "this is when I was a teenager" but finding a lot of useful things that bother me in the Romans letter.
