Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise Service, Easter or Resurrection Sunday? Those traditions were started by Roman Catholic Popes. When has the majority been right? Why have all Bible prophesies about Jesus Christ have been literally fulfilled, but His Three Days Three Nights one?

BibleloverBill, all the worship services of Holy Week (which you referred to) are built strictly upon the Bible account of the events of the last several days of Christ's life prior to his death.

From Thursday to Sunday of each year, they amount virtually to a study of what happened on that Thursday to Sunday with Christ and his disciples. There is, in fact, hardly any other period in the church year which follows the Bible narrative so closely and faithfully, even including the time of day.

What gave you the idea that celebrations of Easter were started by a Pope?

The Last Supper appears in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and the washing of the disciples' feet appears in John. The crucifixion of Jesus appears in all four gospels. The resurrection of Jesus also appears in all four gospels. Which of these events are you disputing?

Matthew I think, was the one who gave us the clearest picture of what has come to be known as Passion Week, starting with Palm Sunday. That's the Triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem which started the week ending in the Resurrection of Jesus. For seven chapters he describes the events of that week, occupying a quarter of his book. Here is a very general outline:

22. Jesus Confronts the Opposition
23. Jesus Condemns the Opposition
24. Mount of Olives Discourse
25. Kingdom Parables
26. Passover
27. Trial, Crucifixion and Burial
28. Resurrection

So that is pretty much where we get what is known as Passion Week, Matthew was there and explains the events in great detail. Passion Week as it's celebrated to this day simply commemorates those events. I found a fairly interesting outline of Passion Week that appears to hit the highlights if your interested:

Which led to...

Told you so!
For the record, there is nothing especially Orthodox or anti-Rome about what I said. I just know of no reason to think that any Bishop of Rome, Orthodox or not, somehow invented Easter.

Yeah, your post proved my point. I told the OP the Orthodox might want a source. You replied and proved my point.

It was meant to be slightly amusing.

We don't hold Easter Sunrise services, generally. But Holy Thursday was the Last Supper, and Jesus' subsequent capture, Good Friday was his Passion and Crucifixion. Saturday He was with the dead, and He rose on Sunday. I guess a sunrise Mass would see when Mary Magdalen found the empty tomb. But all feast days have an evening Mass, a dawn Mass, and several Masses during the day. And by the counting of the time, Friday, Saturday and Sunday makes 3 days.

As has been said many times already, but deserves repeating, the liturgical observances of Holy Week are based directly on the biblical narrative. Holy Week and the Paschal Season are the earliest Christian observances we have, and they are the most explicitly biblical. Other Christian liturgical observances are also based on the Gospel narrative or biblical themes: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, etc. All Christian observances are Christocentric and rooted in the biblical narrative of redemption centered upon the life and work of Jesus Christ our Lord.

All of the prophecies about Jesus were fulfilled literally until the one about His death? Prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ-- Box

(23) Again Tells of Death and Resurrection

Matthew 17:22-23

22 When they were going about here and there in Galilee, Jesus said to them,

“The Son of Man is going to be turned over into the hands of men.

23 And they will kill Him,

and He will be raised [to life] again on the third day.”

And they were deeply and exceedingly grieved and distressed.

Mark 9:30-32

30 From there they went out and began to go through Galilee,

and He did not want anyone to know about it.

31 For He was teaching His Disciples and telling them,

“The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men,

and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed,

He will rise three days later.”

32 But they did not understand this statement,

and they were afraid to ask Him.

Matthew 20:17-19

17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,

He took the twelve Disciples aside along the way and said to them,

18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem,

and The Son Of Man will be handed over to the Chief Priests and Scribes;

and they will sentence Him to death

19 And deliver Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and whipped and crucified,

and He will be raised [to life] on the third day.”

Mark 10:32-34

32 They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them;

and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful.

And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him,

33 saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem,

and The Son Of Man will be delivered to the Chief Priests and the Scribes;

and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.

34 They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him and kill Him,

and three days later He will rise again.”

He did rise three days later.

- He celebrated His Last Supper, which was a Passover Seder, with His followers on Thursday night, the night he was arrested.

-He was scourged, beaten, crucified and buried on Friday, as the Gospel of John tells us that this happened on the Day of Preparation, i.e. the day before the Sabbath.

-He was in the tomb all day on the Sabbath. That is, on Saturday.

-He rose from the dead on the third day, the first day of the week, the day after the Sabbath. In other words, on Sunday.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Three days.

And so the Christian Church has, since very ancient times, honored the events leading up to, and including His Passion, as what we call Holy Week. Beginning on Palm Sunday, including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, the Great Sabbath. All which has led us to the Feast of Feasts, the Day of Days, Holy and Blessed Pascha, for Christ has risen from the dead trampling down death by death.

What's the problem?
