The milk and the meat

all kinds of foods. babies drink milk. adults drink milk too. but babies don't eat meat. some decide to never eat meat and only eat vegetables because they are weak in the faith.

Rom 14:2 (YLT)
one doth believe that he may eat all things--and he who is weak doth eat herbs;

becoming me is my meat. trying to be close to God is meat. knowing God is my meat, because even curses are blessings.

when you use things to burn you can cook the meat.

Heb 6:8-11 (YLT)
and that which is bearing thorns and briers is disapproved of, and nigh to cursing, whose end is for burning; and we are persuaded, concerning you, beloved, the things that are better, and accompanying salvation, though even thus we speak, for God is not unrighteous to forget your work, and the labour of the love, that ye shewed to His name, having ministered to the saints and ministering; and we desire each one of you the same diligence to shew, unto the full assurance of the hope unto the end,

The milk is to learn ABOUT the word.. Hearers do that.
The MEAT is to DO the word of God

Jesus said "I have food you know nothing of" and then explained, "my food is to do the will of Him who sent me"

The way we fulfill the will of God in our lives is the food.

Faith or trusting is the milk

Love is the meat.

Priscilla must censure her readers because it'd become necessary to teach them the Christian doctrine's rudiments, the abc's, whose knowledge was expected of the catechumens when being received into the Church.

Then, as now, Christianity's doctrines constituted the basis of instruction and were expected to be mastered by the applicants for membership in the congregation.

So it was a disgrace that these Jewish Christians lacked the understanding demanded of the novices. They were infants unable to eat meat, dependent entirely upon milk. Instead of becoming adults, theu'd fallen into dotage, and entered a second childhood, and could only drink milk. Mature Christians should be able to grasp advanced Christian doctrines, and to consider them with benefit.

God ultimately wants us to have "solid food". Even when the author was talking to believers of Christ in Hebrews, he was saying that although they "ought to be teachers, [they] need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God". If you look at Hebrews 5:11 - 6:2, you see the difference between "milk" and "solid food".

Milk: Understanding repentance, faith, baptism, prayer, resurrection, and eternal judgment (again, they're the basics)
Solid food: Knowledge of discerning good and evil, basically truth and lies (for the mature)

The author is saying that we need to leave the "elementary doctrine (aka 'milk') of Christ and go on to maturity" (without forgetting "milk", of course) so that we can distinguish and have a solid knowledge in the Word.
