If society continues to become more and more secularized, then I doubt that abortion rates will get much lower in the U.S. in 50 years.
It becomes an issue of supply after a certain point. A lot of states have rather few abortion clinics. And what few they do have are just minutes away from being condemned because plumbers, electricians, carpenters and other tradesmen usually refuse to conduct maintenance on those buildings for moral reasons.

If abortion clinics are forced to close because they cannot maintain their facilities, access to abortion necessarily decreases.

In short, the supply will eventually dry up completely in some states.

That won't stop abortions completely, though, just push them underground. The statistics and such don't really reflect that reality. Just saying. It's flawed like most statistics.

Indeed, it may go underground. And if it does, those people can be prosecuted like any other kind of criminal.

The objective is primarily to remove society's imprimatur from abortion. It's known and understood that abortion won't ever completely go away. The goal is to make it taboo and illegal.

I think a more effective way to address the issue of abortion would be to re-educate society, cement in their minds exactly why it's wrong rather than simply saying "okay, this is illegal now. You'll be arrested if you do it." Wouldn't be an easy task, but I think it would be more effective than simply slapping on a ban.

The "change hearts and minds" bit has been done for decades here in the US. That approach has gone about as far as it can. Enough hearts and minds have been changed.

Now it's time to ban abortion.

Frankly, your point about reeducation has a lot of merit. Abortion is one of many things for which society urgently needs correction.

Canada could desperately use some re-education on the issue. Here it's considered a fundamental right at all stages of pregnancy.

No offense but your country routinely shocks me with a lot of its policy decisions.

Then again, I imagine my country must look rather interesting to you. So hmm.

Yea, the US shocks me about as much as Canada probably shocks you. I mean, Trump as president? You've been the laughing stock up here for years now because of that.

That article is in Vox, a most unlikely organ. But it's the opinion of one person, so perhaps it's a token conservative POV, to appear balanced.

That said, the only way abortion is going to go away to any extent is through a change of the mind and heart of the culture. Roe will most likely be gone fairly soon, and its principles will fall to the various states to uphold or negate, as we see beginning to happen already, among blue and red states respectively.

More fundamentally, the culture is careening downhill faster than anyone can cope with. And with RU486 and with increasing legal pressure on medical professionals to participate in abortion procedures, abortions may become easier to procure. Countering that, there is a revival brewing, I believe, one that will have political overtones, and the church is in early stages of waking from a long slumber. The key for us is to keep on praying and obeying, knowing that the Word does not return void.

I do computer networking, everything from installing routers to rumming ethernet cables. I was asked to supply a blind bid, common in my line of work, where I did not know the actual address of the site or the name of the place. I got the job. Turns out it was a local branch of Planned Parenthood. I told the company that hired me I could not do the work. All I said was "It's Planned Parenthood." The company released me from the bid. Perhaps someone else got the job. I don't know. But I didn't even have to debate my refusal. I encourage anyone to simply say 'No" to doing work for them. If it costs you, then get in touch with me and we'll try to figure out a way to cover your losses.

I’ve never had to take a stand like that. But if it ever comes to that, I hope I have the same courage as you.
