My depression is like darkness you can feel. I feel like God is absent and just doesn't care no matter how much I fast and pray. I was so low that I could not stand to live without him.

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Prayer requires faith to see the answer already before you.
You are welcome to pray without faith, but faith opens
the door so you can see God's answers.
He did answer. God will show you what His plan was all along.

Read the book of Philippians, particularly chapters 3 and 4. Forgetting past things and rejoicing in the Lord will protect your heart. It probably won't feel natural to do so at first, but keep at it. It's a discipline. Find things to thank God for - anything positive, but especially the gift of Life and Christ's sacrifice for you on the cross to reconcile you back to the Father. A book that will also help is Prison to Praise.

God does care. It's a battle to simply believe it, especially in depression when it's hard to feel anything good. But faith goes beyond that, beyond crippled emotion and the veil of darkness. Sometimes for me, when I'm in a dark pit and struggling, faith is a choice that goes against most things I'm experiencing. You don't have to live without Him, as He is already there. Hang on in there dear one. Praying for you.

Yes a lot of us here on the forum have experienced the darkness and godforsakeness of depression. It is a terrible affliction that is very difficult to get away from.
i found that when i ignore my feelings no matter how dark they feel and focus on God's promises and let them guide me. amazing what faith in God's love does, it brings hope for better and this hope doesn't disappoint us.
God is right beside us if we but believe He is and hold onto His love no matter how negative and dark we feel.
The good news is God cares all we have to do is believe that and hold onto that.
Faith in God's love is the answer you are looking for.
Wishing you His blessings your way
To God's Depressed Child,
To think less of yourself then God's own
Brings you much pain and suffering.
Your worth is an incredible high price
Also for you did Jesus die on the cross.
Depression is also what devil's lies brings inside
letting a low-self-esteem your good life rob

While to believe lies brings pain and grief
So hold onto the promises Jesus made to you
and don't let Satan your good life squander.
