"You have heard" is a past tense verb. It was in the past that they heard that antichrist (there is no the in the greek) is coming. NOW many antichrists have appeared.

1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour

"You have heard" is a past tense verb. It was in the past that they heard the spirit of the antichrist is coming. and Now is already in the world.
1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and is already in the world at this time.

An earthly example for understanding:

You have heard that coke vanilla orange is coming, so now coke vanilla orange has appeared all over.

No decently informed Christian denies the plural existence of antichrists or spirits of antichrist in the present. The whole thing with "The Antichrist" is really referring to the Man of Sin or Son of Perdition mentioned in Revelation, we've just assigned the title "The Antichrist" to him for reasons I'm not really sure of.

The AntiChrist is every single person who truly knows the Light, Jesus Christ, and yet they do evil things against it.Jesus said about these people that they are of their father, they devil, they are not of God, so if you are not with God, then you are against Him, check Matthew 12:30, Mark 9:38-41.

Hi claninja. Have you ever done phrase searches in a concordance?
I am beginning to do that a lot more in relation to my Bible studies......
Hope this helps.

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

"you have heard"(NKJV)
"you have heard" occurs 34 times in 34 verses in the NKJV.

This is from the NKJV, but that site has about a dozen or more versions you can use.

I found this very interesting in Jeremiah:

Jer 26
11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and all the people, saying,
This man deserves to die! For he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”
12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying: “The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city with all the words that you have heard.

Mat 26:
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses?
Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!
66 “What do you think?” They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”
Mar 14:64
You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?”
And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.
==================
Mark 6:4 Then Jesus told them, "A prophet is without honor only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household."
Luke 4:22 He said, "Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown/country.

Hi Ecclesiastain, welcome to this forum.

John was likening them in his day who were leaving Christianity, who were denying Jesus as the messiah and Son of God, to the coming Antichrist, by calling them "antichrists".

The concept of the coming Antichrist is based on being "in lieu of and against" the concept of the Christ - which is to be King of Israel, descended from King David.

Mark 15:32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

John 12:
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
_____________________________________________________________________

So to become the Antichrist, the person has to be anointed the King of Israel - instead of and against the rightful King of Israel - Jesus.

It is one of the many roles the person will go through on his way to his demise.

Here is a chart I made of the arch villain of the end times, progressing through the different roles of being the little horn, then the prince who shall come, then the Antichrist, then the revealed man of sin, then the beast.
