I wonder what compelled him to bring that up after 30 years?

And here i thought I was in the clear for what my white past relatives did, or did not do, I'm not sure any longer.

Does this mean I am culpable for my g-g-g-grandfather being a Civil War soldier? Guess I can wear that one with some measure of pride.

I actually had ancestors that were confederate officers, that doesn't absolve me of responsibilities towards reflecting on my own attitudes and prejudices.

Weird. Victims of past injustice need to let go of that nonsense.

I never mentioned or alluded to Trump. The implication was that 'wrongs' committed by forefathers personally stain individuals in the present generation.....least ways that is how I read it....in this case Confederate officer forefathers who supported a government based on slavery. I personally don't believe that; I had a g-g-g-uncle who committed murder....should his actions reflect on me?

Be careful about bringing up what happened with your G-G-G Uncle, there are plenty of people who would be happy to far you with the same brush.

If you are going to make reparations, then it should only be to direct descendent of the slaves from direct dependents of slave owners

Very little, but this is the American Politics Forum. And for that reason it is perfectly acceptable

It sounds like Joe is concerned about his support among women, especially Black women. I will never forget those hearings on that Friday night a few decades ago. Clarence Thomas spoke that phrase about "a high tech lynching" and that stopped the Dems, including Sen. Biden, dead in their tracks and pretty much put an end to the questioning and probably caused some of the Dems to vote for his confirmation.
