We know from Ezekiel 38 that Israel will be at peace when that conflict begins. I am wondering if there will have been another prior conflict in which Israel won new territory. They are not at peace now, but will be dwelling in the land safely then. Is it possible that Israel will annex Gaza and the West Bank in the future?

The psalms 83 war corresponds to the war of Armeggedon in which the land of Israel and surrounding countries are desroyed. The Lamb comes and all of the land promised to the seed of Abraham is given to the seed of Abraham.
These nations in Psalms 83 dwell in that land.
None of them, will exist except Egypt. No one will be able to live in Egypt for 40 years after Armeggedon .No onewill even be able to walk through it.
But as for the others,
Jordan,Lebanon,Gaza,Iraq are all within the promised land.Much of Turkey and Syria are within the promised land as far as the Euprates river.

By the time Gog invades Israel the land of Israel will have recoverd from,Armegedon.

Ezekiel 38:8 NIV: After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety.

As a former premillennial futurist I am a big concern regarding a particular doctrine which has been floating around on the YouTube, websites, and forum like this. This so-called Psalm 83 doctrine -- which I personally believe is a politically-motivated false doctrine -- concerns Psalm 83 in the Old Testament, which you can read in its entirety below which is a song of Asaph:

Psalms 83:1-18 KJV
[1] A Song or Psalm of Asaph. Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
[2] For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
[3] They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
[4] They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
[5] For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
[6] The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
[7] Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
[8] Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
[9] Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
[10] Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.
[11] Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
[12] Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
[13] O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.
[14] As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
[15] So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
[16] Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
[17] Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
[18] That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

The gist of the doctrine of which I speak is that Psalm 83 is a prophecy concerning a near-future war -- that is, in our own time -- which will occur between Israel and her Arab and Muslim enemies -- whether it will be with terrorists or nations. I strongly believe that whoever created this deception and then began to promote and propagate it on the web, is someone who is apparently in the pro-Israel camp who is being brainwashed with pro-Zionism, pre-tribulation rapture doctrine. I have noticed that a lot of pro-Israel Christians are rallying around Psalm 83, and are using it to justify their support for Israel, and a hoped-for victory by Israel over her Arab and Muslim neighbors in this alleged near-future war and get ready for the pre-tribulation rapture.

My first problem with this coalescence around Psalm 83 by said Christians is that Jesus and His Apostles teach us that we Christians are not of this world, and we are not supposed to become entangled in the affairs of this life. This means that we are not supposed to become involved in the political affairs of this world, and we are most certainly not supposed to support any nations or governments, even Israel, and much less support any of them in their violent wars against each other. All I know is that we are supposed to obey our local/state/national laws as much as possible -- please refer to Romans 13:1-8 -- but that is as far as it goes.

Despite tons of Scripture telling us not to get involved with world affair, Christians are not supposed to be friends with the world, and we are most certainly not supposed to engage in or support any of their hellish wars, no matter who is fighting them. That said, any person who rejects these points is clearly in denial of the previous verses, and has become deceived by their own free choice.

I have observed that the tragedy of this situation is that there are many people both online and offline who are not very familiar with the Bible -- particularly not with the complex prophecies that it contains -- who upon hearing this Psalm 83 War doctrine, get all excited, and think that they are doing a good thing by sharing it with their friends based on their interpreation from world news or YouTube, without really taking the time to validate the doctrine for themselves. To engage in this kind of activity is not only non-productive, but it is, in fact, contrary to what we are taught to do in the Bible, as we can see by the following verses:

2 Timothy 2:15, KJV
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Acts 17:10-11, KJV
"And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

1 John 4:1, KJV
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try [test or prove] the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

The Psalm is being promoted or abused by certain misguided Christians -- no doubt with the tacit encouragement and approval of the Zionist Jews -- as a reason to both support and justify an alleged war which will supposedly soon occur between Israel and her Muslim and Arab neighbors. But is this what Psalm 83 is really describing?

The way I studied Psalm 83, it is not a prophecy regarding a future war (or current skirmish over Gaze Strip) between Israel and her neighbors. Please carefully notice that I am not saying that there will be no future wars between Israel and her Arab and Muslim enemies but it is NOT part of any Bible prophecy that pro-zionists are seeking. So I am simply saying that Psalm 83 is not a prophecy about a future war.

Furthermore, in my view, Psalm 83 is not a prophecy at all. There are two words which are glaringly absent from Psalm 83 -- which are present in many other futuristic prophecies -- which would bestow upon it a prophetic ring. These words are "will" and "shall". Read it again and you will discover this for yourself. In contrast, if you read the Book of Isaiah or the Book of Ezekiel, for example, you will find the phrase "I will" from beginning to end. This phrase clearly confirms these two Books as being prophetic in nature. In fact, Psalm 83 primarily uses the present tense and the past tense. The past tense is clearly used to indicate that the conspiracy against Israel -- that is, a confederacy or alliance of other nations -- has already been discovered, and the present tense is used by Asaph to invoke Divine Retribution against Israel's enemies.

Moreover, Psalm 83 is not a forward-looking prophecy or a prophecy of any kind. If it is anything, it is a desperate prayer by Asaph in which he asks God to stop the conspirators in their tracks. Stated another way, Asaph was desperately praying for a dangerous situation which had been discovered in the here and now; that is, in his own time. Please look again at the tenses of the verbs. Psalm 83 reminds me of so many of King David's Psalms, where he likewise desperately asks the Lord to protect him from his enemies. So tell me; do we consider David's prayers in those Psalms to be prophecies regarding the far future? Why then should we treat Asaph's prayer in Psalm 83 any differently?

Please stop and think about this for a moment. Does it make any sense whatsoever that an Israelite who lived almost three thousand years ago would pray a desperate prayer against an alliance of confederate nations which would exist not quite three thousand years in his future? Would he even know about it? Would he even care?

Let's be honest. Do you know of any Christians right now who has any interest in praying for a desperate situation which may possibly occur three thousand years into our own future? Obviously not. Most of us are more concerned about the here and now -- our own time -- and we concentrate our prayers on situations which we are confronting in the here and now. Not tomorrow. We face enough obstacles and challenges in our present lives, without having to worry about something which may occur three thousand years from now. In fact, as you may recall, the Lord specifically admonished us to not even worry about tomorrow, much less three thousand years from now, as we see by this verse:

Matthew 6:34, KJV
"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

The Apostle James likewise shares the following wise thoughts with us:

James 4:14, KJV
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

So it was with Asaph, I believe! He was praying against the conspiratorial threat which Israel faced at that time -- a confederacy or alliance of nations -- and nothing more.

So tell me; do we consider David's prayers in those Psalms to be prophecies regarding the far future?
Because the clearly stated cause and effects of Asaph's prophecy have not yet been fulfilled.
20 or more years ago, your beliefs would have had credence, but now we can see how what is described can literally be fulfilled.
Psalms 83 is just another of the 100+ prophesies that graphically describe the great and terrible Day of the Lord's wrath by fire from the sun. Isaiah 30:25-30, Isaiah 66:15-17, Zephaniah 3:8, 2 Peter 3:7, Revelation 6:12-17

Psalm 83 is just speculation like something like the "2012 Mayan Prophecy" theory-based on a calendar, not the Bible. Or the popular books wrote by false prophets like The Harbinger, The Shemitah and the Four Blood Moons. They misused and twisted Scripture for their false doctrines and interpretations concerning "national Israel" that was happening "within last 20 years." Same thing with Psalm 83. I see similar prayers in other psalms are obviously not prophecies.

Saying the inspired Word of God is the same as the fiction and speculation of fools, is sheer foolishness.

Psalms 83 actually ties in with all the prophesies that tell us of a forthcoming terrible Day when the Lord will destroy His enemies.
Micah 4:11-12, Isaiah 28:21, Psalms 7:6-16, Revelation 6:12-17; are a few of the many that relate to Psalms 83.

(Patting on your back). Well let me know how it goes with your national Israel over there. I am part of covenant Israel that God is more concerned about.

Attributing certain beliefs to me or any other person, without being sure they do apply is rude in the extreme.
I have often posted here how the Jewish State of Israel will be no more after the Lord's Day of wrath. Isaiah 22:14, Jeremiah 10:18, Romans 9:27, +
It will be every faithful Christian who will occupy all of the holy Land. John sees them there in Revelation 7:9 They are there when the AC conquers them; Daniel 7:23, Revelation 13:7
That is our destiny and our privilege.

He was perfectly concerned with 'nation Israel' throughout Kings when they repeatedly turned away from him, and were turned back to him. It's pride and a jealous sibling type attitude that has people thinking that God's forever done with anyone, nation or people.

My end times picture is a bit muddier. Jerusalem (Babylon) gets destroyed--many dead--before the Lord's day of wrath. Or at least another day of wrath; depending on how you define it. The Jewish state of Israel is not necessarily no more yet--think of what would happen if Providence, Rhode Island took a nuclear warhead. A lot of Rhode Island would be gone, but Rhode Island would still be a state. You would also get World War 3 after that. THEN comes the Lord's day of wrath.

Yes some prophecies overlap. But the current situation in Israel with the provocative attacks by Hamas is probably a lead up to prophetic fulfillment. Or do you think it will cool down amid the outcry from the world?

This has being going on pretty much constantly, it's just not front page (until Israel retaliates). I was there during the 2nd intifada, and it was seriously hot in terms of tension then. I think other indicators will show the timeline more clearly, as this back and forth is fairly consistent. The world is certainly against Israel, without really knowing what's going on.

You misunderstood Scripture. Your obsession with national Israel is what blind many to the Truth.

The Salvation unto the Gentiles nations and judgment upon Old Testament Israel, which came with Christ's death and resurrection.

Isaiah 2:1-4
  • "The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
  • And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
  • And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
  • And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
And all nations shall flow unto it is pointing to the great commission where Christ told us to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth, and the nations/gentiles flowing into it are the fruits of these labors in Christ Jesus. Including the Jews! Didn't you read the Scripture?

Matthew 21:42-43 KJV
[42] Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
[43] Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

This started at the cross and ends when all Israel is Sealed unto the day of redemption. We can't get hung up on the word translated nations and start thinking like many evangelicals, of the nation of Israel and other physical nations, that's not what God has in view. Political Nations aren't saved or kept from being deceived by Satan, individuals are saved and they come into the "Spiritual Nation," and become "Spiritual Jews" and are brought "Spiritual Peace" and comfort in the "Spiritual" Israel of God (Romans 2:28-29, Ephesians 2:11-22). These nations in Scripture contrast the Jewish people [For example, meaning non-Jews]:

Galatians 2:15
  • "We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,"
One group contrasted with the other. The word you see translated Nations is the exact same word you see in this verse translated Gentiles, and of course this [ethnos], clearly means here the non-Jews or what Scripture calls Gentiles. These were the Foreigners from the commonwealth of Israel and the covenants. Galatians 2:15 contrasts the Jewish people with the non-Jewish people by the use of the word (Gentiles/Nations). God is not interested in "national redemption" of Israel in the Middle East and restores His Kingdom back to her in the future which is not supported by Scripture becuase Jesus said:

Mark 11:13-14 KJV
[13] And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
[14] And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

God only can save some Jews out of Israel and all nation in Christ through the Gospel since the Cross, but national redemption for Israel!

See, the world does not want to allow Israel the right to defend itself imho. If a country attacked another country, no one would blame the attacked country for retaliating against the country that attacked them. Case in point, 9-11. I read a headline yesterday that said in so many words that Israel had better not retaliate for the attack on Central Israel.

Absolutely right Handmaid, they're simply chastised for any move they make. Absolute double standards. I always used the analogy that if native Americans started randomly stabbing and car ramming random, innocent Americans, would the world also claim they're justified in doing so for having their land taken from them ? (*I'm not even claiming that the 'land theft' is applicable to Israel, just playing devil's advocate by the worlds standards).

The prophesies about the terrible Day of the Lord's fiery wrath do not overlap, they all give details of the same event.
What is happening re Hamas, is 'same old, same old'. They like to keep their so called grievances in the world spotlight.
But it will be when Iran sees their opportunity to finally wipe Israel off the map, that the Lord will take action and send them all into hades. Ezekiel 32:24-25, Jeremiah 49:35-36
I find Isaiah 21:1-10 and Isaiah 22:1-14 most informative about what will happen very soon. Note; that Elam, [Iran] is mentioned twice in Isaiah's prophecy.

THE FATE OF THE EVIL NEIGHBORS:
Not if, but when, the confederation of Islamic nations and entities such as Hamas and Hezbollah, attack Israel in their desperate effort to overcome the humiliation of previous failed attempts to “wipe Israel off the map “- Then, the Lord will act against His enemies, Isaiah 42:14-15, in His terrible Day of vengeance and wrath against the nations. Habakkuk 3:12, Ezekiel 20:46-47, Zephaniah 1:14-18, Rev. 6:12-17

Here is a list of Bible verses that reveals the fates of those “evil neighbours”. -
Note: this judgement includes Judah, the current Jewish State of Israel. Ezekiel 21:1-7, Amos 2:4-5, Jeremiah 12:14.

THE NATIONS
Psalms 83:1-18 Do not keep silent, O God, for your enemies have devised a plot against your people. Let us wipe them out as a nation, they say: Let Israel be remembered no more.......

Scatter those godless people; make them as dung on the ground. As a fire rages through a forest, may they perish in disgrace.

Zechariah 12:1-9 This is the word of the Lord concerning Israel. I am about to make Jerusalem an intoxicating cup that sends all the surrounding nations reeling. Judah will be involved. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock. All who try to move her will be cut to pieces. The armies of those nations will be struck with blindness and madness. Judah will praise Me on that Day and their leaders will be strong, as a burning torch among the sheaves. All the nations right and left will be consumed, while Jerusalem remains safe. Isaiah 31:5, Psalms 125, Jeremiah 3:17-18
But the Jewish State of Israel will be gone. Zephaniah 1:14-18, Jeremiah 10:18, Romans 9:27

Isaiah 33:10-12 Now I shall arise, says the Lord. You will be like chaff and stubble. Whole nations will be heaps of white ash, like thorns set ablaze. Matthew 3:12, Hebrews 10:27, Rev 6:12-17

Jeremiah 9:25-26 The Lord says, the time is coming when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh. All those who live in the desert regions are uncircumcised in their hearts. Ezekiel 30:1-5

Ezekiel 28:26 When I execute judgement on all of Israel’s scornful neighbours, then My [faithful Christian] people will live in the Land, undisturbed. Amos 9:13-15

IRAN
Jeremiah 49:35-39 The Lord says, I shall break the bow of Elam, their chief weapon. I will bring disaster upon them, destroy their leaders and officials and scatter them around the earth.

Ezekiel 32:24 Elam is buried in Sheol, with all her people- victims of the sword. Those who spread terror in the land of the living, now bear disgrace with all those in the abyss.

PALESTINIANS
Ezekiel 25:15-17 The Lord says, because the Philistines have resorted to revenge with malice in their hearts and with ancient hostility, they seek to destroy Judah. I shall stretch out My hand against them and take mighty vengeance.

Amos 1:6-8 For crime after crime of Gaza, they will have no reprieve – I shall send fire until the last of the Philistines is dead.

Zephaniah 2:4-7 At midday Gaza will be left in ruins, I will destroy you. You will be left with no inhabitants.

LEBANON
Luke 10:14 Tyre and Sidon will be judged.

Amos 1:9-10 For the sins of Tyre, I will not hold back My wrath. They ignored the brotherly alliance; therefore, I shall send fire to consume their fortresses

Zechariah 9:3-5 The word of the Lord alights on Tyre and Sidon – I will take away your possessions and the cities will be destroyed by fire.

SYRIA
Amos 1:3-5 For crime after crime of Damascus, I will grant them no reprieve. I shall send fire on their fortresses.

Jeremiah 49:23-27 News comes of a disaster, confusion and anxiety reign, they try to escape, but all her soldiers die on that day.

Isaiah 17:1-14 Damascus will cease to be a city, forever desolate. Listen - it is the thunder of vast forces, at evening all is terror, before morning all is gone. Such is the fate of our adversaries.

ARABIA
This prophecy in Jeremiah mentions King Nebuchadrezzer of Babylon attacking Kedar and Hazor. This did happen during Jeremiah’s lifetime, but not to the full extent of this prophecy:

Jeremiah 49:28-33 Arise, attack Kedar and destroy the desert peoples of the East. Your possessions will be taken. A cry of terror will go up – flee quickly away and hide in remote places. Hazor will become a desolate place forever, totally uninhabited.

Isaiah 21:13-17 An oracle concerning Arabia. You, who live in Arabia and Tema, meet the fugitives with food and water, those who flee from the sword, from the heat of the battle. Then, within a year, all of Kedar’s glory will come to an end, only a few of her soldiers will be left. [This is interesting: “meet the fugitives”, may mean those escaping from Jordan, down the Desert Highway or the old Kings Highway.]

JORDAN
Ezekiel 25:1-11 Prophesy against the Ammonites – because you exulted over the Land of Israel with spiteful contempt, I shall give you up to be plundered by the nations. I will cut you off from other peoples and exterminate you from every country. Peoples from the East will camp on your land.

Jeremiah 49:1-8 Has Israel no heirs? Why, then do Milcoms people possess the towns of Gad? Therefore a time is coming when you will hear the battle cry. Ammon will become a desolate mound, all its towns burnt to ashes.

Ezekiel 21:28-32 A sword of slaughter will flash like lightning. The visions that you have are false, advising you to bring the sword against the unbelievers, but the time of their punishment will come later. In the land of your ancestry, I will judge you, I shall hand you over to brutal men. You will be fuel for the fire and be remembered no more.

Amos 1:13-15 For crime after crime of the Ammonites, I shall grant them no reprieve, because in their greed for land, they ripped open pregnant women in Gilead. Therefore, fire will destroy Rabbah- Ammon with a whirlwind on that day. Their King will go into exile and his officers with him.

EGYPT
Isaiah 19:1-10 The Lord comes riding swiftly on a cloud, He descends on Egypt and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them. I will stir them up against each other. They will be confused, all their plans fail. Idols and spirit mediums are useless. I shall hand Egypt over to a hard master. The Nile will dry up. Fishing, agriculture and industry will all fail.

Isaiah 19:11-16 Egypts leaders give senseless advice – the Lord has poured a spirit of confusion into them. The Egyptians will become weak and terror stricken.

Isaiah 19:17-20 Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians, even the mention of Israel will terrify them. In that day there will be 5 cities who speak the ancient language and who worship the Lord. [Coptic Christians?] Also, on that day there will be an altar and a monument to the Lord, as a witness when they cry out to Him, and He will send a deliverer to rescue them. Egypt will acknowledge and worship the Lord, He will respond to them and heal them.

Ezekiel 29:8 The Lord God says, I am bringing a sword against you. Egypt will become a desolate wasteland. For 40 years the people will be scattered among the nations. Then regathered to upper Egypt.

Ezekiel chapter 30 Alas for the day, a sword will come on Egypt, by the hand of foreigners, I shall lay waste to the land of Egypt.

Ezekiel chapter 31 The pride of Pharaoh, the leader of Egypt, is cut down.

Ezekiel chapter 32 Many peoples will be appalled at the fate of Egypt, the cattle destroyed, the land laid waste and empty.
