I think it's appropriate to tell a bit about myself. For most of my childhood God wasn't really an important factor in my life, and by my early teens I was calling myself an atheist. Last year I was on a roadtrip with my mom, we were camped up in a hotel for the night and I had neglected to bring anything for entertainment. Out of boredom I took to reading the hotel bible and found it quite compelling. Weeks later I tried praying for the first time and I couldn't believe how happy and satisfied I felt after!

A few months ago I become interested in Eastern Orthodoxy, I wanted to find the original Christianity and Eastern Orthodoxy was what I found. Orthodox theology is absolutely fascinating and I've been re-reading "The Orthodox Way," I've also picked up an Orthodox prayer book. I started attending an Orthodox Church and I've done one catechumen class so far. However, I've fallen out of Church for the last two months due to a lot of schedule conflicts and unfortunately, excuses. I've also found keeping a consistent prayer schedule to be difficult.

God Bless.

Hello and welcome to CF. :)

Glory to God that you have been drawn to Him. It also makes me smile that your research into Church history has made you aware of Orthodoxy.

By the way, please come by and visit us in TAW. :) That's the EO community forum here on CF. The Ancient Way - Eastern Orthodox

Scheduling tends to get in our way, and any other kind of obstacle as we approach the Church. It is important to make the things of God a priority so that we can overcome all the many stumbling blocks we will all encounter.

And a prayer rule is a tool in a sense, a discipline. It has a purpose - both to draw us closer to God and to accustom us to turn continually to Him, to set our minds on Him (waking and going to bed are the important brackets to train our minds), as well as transforming our thoughts about God if we are using the prayers of the Church. Too rigorous a prayer rule can be self-defeating btw ... have you been given one by your priest or simply adopted one generally given?

Anyway - welcome to CF. We are very glad to have you with us!

Hi, im glad that you found a bible to read and that you found a church. I have discovered in my own life that once I do right with God, I am attacked thru the enemies of the darkness more intensely. Such ways of finding it difficult to pray regularly and attending church with the right mindset and perspective to praise and worship God. It is important for our eternal well being to stay focused and be on the straight and narrow path of trying to live our lives for God. I will pray for you to stay strong and focus my friend. Blessings :)
