Scripture
24Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross.
Observation
Jesus is nailed to the cross. Not much more to say.
Application
This pinged me because Jesus' crucifixion, death, and resurrection are the foundation of Christianity. Yet the crucifixion is a single verse: "Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross." (Mark 15:24 NLT). If you are reading through the Bible, it's so short you might miss it! I've always marveled at these short accounts. It seems as though the Gospel authors should have gone into vivid details of the entire process; how the soldiers positioned him, how long were the nails, how many strikes it took, how was the cross lifted, etc. But with these details missing it enforces the Gospel's credibility because I don't think the Gospel authors were there personally to witness it. If I recall, the Gospel of Mark came from Mark who traveled with Peter and wrote down what Peter preached. But Peter himself wasn't as the crucifixion (correct me if I'm wrong). So Peter would know Jesus was nailed to the cross and crucified, but not any of the movie-level details. Again, because the story isn't embellished speaks to its authenticity.
