I believe most Christians hold some parts of sacred Scripture closer to their heart than other parts at least I do.
As a fellowship and encouragement thread this is the place of sharing your favourite passage from both the Old testament as well as one from the New testament and how it makes an impact on your life and how it moves your soul.
This is a lenten sharing and fellowship thread.

I'm going to share mine later in the thread :)

God bless.

Mine is

Micah 6:6 With what shall I come before the Lord, And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? 7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God.

To me this says it all!

Well actually the whole Gospel of John, why because that book tell a person how to have eternal life.

But if i post, just one from the Gospel of John this is a good one, straight and to the point.

but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

I believe that any scripture can be used by God to help us to find out how to be with God and how to love. In this way, there is a tie for first place, then, of all scripture, I consider :)

But there are ones which have given me things which I find we need to feed on; for example >

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

This to me means we can be personally pleasing to our Heavenly Father, by being gentle and quiet in His love. Jesus is "gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (in Matthew 11:29) So, I see a connection between how Jesus is gentle and humble, and God wants us to be gentle and quiet > He wants us to be like Jesus is pleasing to Him.

Another thing > if God's love is gentle and quiet, this means God is quiet > not silent. But we can be noisy in our stuff of ego and of the flesh, so we do not share with God by being quiet the way His love is quiet. And we can submit to Him personally, if we are quiet with Him.

I also like ... Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 15:21-30 (the faith of the Canaanite woman praying for her daughter) and Luke 15:11-32 (the parable of the prodigal son) are my favorites.

In the Old Testament, the Psalms 23 has been of great comfort to me.

Psalm 120 LXX (121)
It's in the morning prayers. I've leaned on it in times of trouble for many years.

Back in 1985 I was in a band and wrote a song, basically about being tense and frustrated by "life things" like the Atlanta traffic jams and work issues. Every day stuff that seem larger when you are single and 22 years old.
The lyric was intentionally vague but it was loosely (very loosely) based on this Psalm but I never forgot that it was the inspiration.

When I made my transition to Orthodoxy, I began to see it as just one more of the road signs on my journey. It was there all along, it just took time to recognize. "The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."

Exodus 14:13-14 (RSV)
13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still.”

The typology to the redemption of Christ couldn't possibly be stronger! Salvation through water by the work of God himself. We shall never see Satan as he once was ever again.

He wept.

Famous for being the shortest verse in the whole Bible and to me the most powerful.

Even Jesus cried. It helps me past moments of pain and helps get me out of despair. What happens after that part in the Bible puts it all in perspective.
