So, I love animals. Especially obscure, neat, weird-looking, cute animals. What are your favorite obscure animals?

A few....

Mara (sort of like a deer-bunny)

Degu (little mousey fluff balls!)

Somali Wild Ass (super endangered, beautiful, stripey donkeys)

Obscure animals I don't know so well, but my favourite animal is without doubt the dog. So dependable and loyal - my favourite breeds are the Irish Wolfhound and Scottish Deerhound. Enormous, but so friendly and sociable. They make dreadful guard dogs!

My favourite is the extremely rare and endangered Jackalope. Once common in Montana, Alberta and Saskatchewan was last seen near Swift Current Sakatchewan in 2015.

I don't know how obscure it is, but look at the Quokka! It's the happiest marsupial in the world! That's why everyone likes taking selfies with them.

On the 'weird' front, I love the sadly very endangered Saiga(k) or Kazakh antelope, with their weird wobbly noses that wiggle like they're made out of jelly:

There are only an estimated 50,000 left in the world, after a bacterial infection back in 2010 wiped out roughly 200,000 of them. They cover a grazing area that is as large as the entire country of France, so they're quite hard to find. Efforts to breed them in captivity haven't worked so far, and scientists may run out of time and/or funding before they all die off or are killed (they're also subject to poaching, like every rare animal is). :(

Those are cute animals, Gracia! Obscure animals are interesting. :)

While working on my website, I looked for an animal for each letter of the alphabet and discovered a few I had never heard of before - numbat, quoll, and uguisu (the numbat and quoll are marsupials and the uguisu is a species of bird).

The moment I saw the numbat I knew I had to choose it for N - it's just so adorable!

Here are the quoll and uguisu (or Japanese bush warbler):

This video has 2 obscure (to me at least) and lovely creatures:

It always makes me smile how David Attenborough always reduces his voice to a whisper when he's probably recording the narration in the studio! :grinning:

Tardigrades. They are everywhere on earth and can survive in very hostile conditions, including the vacuum of space. But you won't see them with the naked eye:
