CNN just aired a report about this. The Senator used some especially strong language, even more so considering that he is a Republican. However, he is the head of the Veteran's Committee, so he probably takes it personally when McCain, a deceased prisoner of war hero, is attacked.

President Trump's comments on the late Senator John McCain's experiences as a POW continue to be among the worst, most offensive and un-American statements I've ever heard in my life.

We all ought to.

My greatest respect to him for his sacrifice and service.

However, that doesn’t give him a pass if he did some really shady things.

And that is what it is looking like.

Give us more specifics. McCain did some questionable things, but shady? He was generally quite open about what he did, sometimes offensively so, but I am not aware of anything underhanded.

And yet, when people look into or criticize Trump's "shady things", it's a witch hunt motivated by sour grapes, eh?

Maybe the president can comment on those shady things he's done instead of besmirching a dead war hero's service?

The Steel dossier was real enough for FISA warrants

The Steel dossier was real enough the the DOJ to use as part of an investigation.
It's been said that McCain gave the dossier to the FBI. Why was that the wrong thing to do? What should he have done with it, in your view?

Senator Isakson is correct that Donald's outburst about Senator McCain is deplorable. All Americans ought to feel extremely ashamed of our president's conduct in his pitiful attack on a deceased veteran who served our country. I'm glad that Republicans are rebuking Donald for his pathetic & unpatriotic tantrum.

From my limited reading from a number of different sources, he disseminated the dossier without divulging where it came from or who piaid for, or that it was not verifiable.

For a senior statesman, former military and a member of the committee he sat on in career, doing so is suspicious if not negligent in my opinion.

There is no harm in looking into it.

Senator McCain was a patriot. Giving the dossier to the FBI was the morally correct & patriotic action. It was in service to this country. Donald Trump, predictably, having a deplorable temper tantrum over it only validates that action.

McCain was definitely a patriot. If he followed proper protocol in sending the document to the justice department I have no issue.

But that is what is being questioned.

And I don’t believe it was in service to his country, I think it was incservice to him. He was extremely angry (in some ways rightfully so), and he spent the remainder of his life getting back at the President for that hurt.

Now we have two personal opinions on the matter.

It was absolutely in service to his country that he gave the dossier about Donald to the FBI. Donald Trump's conduct ought to make everyone who devoted their life to serving their country extremely angry.

Donald's total lack of self-control in his huge, deplorable public meltdowns about this only validates Senator McCain's patriotic actions.

Yet that was all known at the time and the contents have been verified in large part since by independent lines of evidence. Did he misrepresent the source or contents to the FBI when he handed it over?

They sure do, but facts are facts regardless of Donald's tantrums about them. It's a fact that Republicans have rebuked him for his conduct & characterized it as deplorable.

Here is the deposition:

Kramer%20Deposition.pdf

From the article:

Kramer’s deposition — which reads like a spy thriller and offers an extraordinary behind-the-scenes lead up to the publication of the dossier — reveals that he circulated the dossier to multiple news organizations, a revelation that until now, had not been disclosed

So right before the election, McCain circulated the dossier to multiple news organizations. That is not in service to his country, that sounds like trying to influence the election with unverified reports that were paid for by the Clinton Campaign.

Quote: It helped that McCain, a six-term senator and chairman of the influential Senate Armed Services Committee, "was better to be the recipient of this rather than a Democrat because if it were a Democrat, I think that the view was that it would have been dismissed as a political attack."
He was used by Steele
