I'm aware of Nashville's leanings. My point was not to characterize Nashville as conservative; if anything, it was to jokingly reduce TN to being nothing more than Nashville, i.e. what does the south have besides TX, Nashville, and Mardi Gras?
:)
There's not a small dose of irony there.

“Folks keep talking about another civil war;"

Other than Steve King, who are these folks?

Guys who wear too much camo and prance around in the woods every weekend, calling themselves a "militia," as like as not.

I think the meaning of the meme is that in case of a civil war, one side would win because the other side is silly, and thus said other side should accede to the demands of the first side.
It also vaguely echos that old canard of “might makes right!”, that was officially rejected in this country 144 years ago.

Insofar as the guy is a character, as opposed to having some, yes.

LOL! Well i'd say both...he is a character to post it, and by the way, it's hilarious, and it doesn't discount his possessing character.

^_^

And, in the process, discount the possibility of civil war.
The meme is not discounting it. It's saying in a civil war the heavily armed manly men (and women) of red states will defeat the confused and effeminate blue states.

If you think the message was benign, why didn't he defend it with a statement rather than deleting it?

My experience has been that there’s no message one can convey that’s so simple, no argument one can advance that’s so plainly spoken, no idea that’s so accessible that somebody can’t come along and completely misunderstand.

That’s really only a fatal problem if one finds oneself in the business of winning votes.

King is in the business of winning votes.

So rather than take the time to explain what should be self-evident, he’s apparently chosen to simply change the subject and move on.

If there’s a victory to be had here, it’s in the fact that his detractors are arguing rationally against a meme. An ironclad rule of the Internet is that if one finds oneself arguing against a meme, he has already lost.

King’s detractors have already lost.

And here we are.

You are quite literally the only person I have found whose interpreted that meme in that way.... and I looked. I found it reposted on numerous conservative sites and social media accounts and not once did the poster or the respondents interpret it as primarily directing derision towards the notion of a coming civil war.

Here is one if the first hits I get:
All this talk about a Civil War. : The_Donald

If you’re the only person interpreting this meme that way (and you are), then I feel pretty confident in saying that Rep King doesn’t deserve the charity that you’re extending him.

The meme itself is giggle-worthy.

As for a civil war, don't think it's going to happen, at least not like the old days. It's not the states split against each other, it's everyone split against each other sharing the same states.

More in the Spanish style next time...
