It is not a fear "for me personally" but its a spiritual conviction. I did not allow my children to read these books when they were small. Idk, if I am a christian and am to be imitating Christ I would ask myself: would Jesus sit and read this? Just sayin.......
When children are raised/trained in the way they should go,
they have nothing to do with such idolatry or witchcraft, and many other things as well.
This is in Scripture clear with no fogginess nor exception.

I find that a lot of people dismiss the concerns about authentic witch craft being taught in those books. When I ask them what qualifies them to say those aren't really spells and what research they've done to support their opinions, they look like a deer in the headlights.

Meanwhile, the people who have researched magic frequently are alarmed at what's printed in Harry Potter books.

So who should we trust? The people who have never bothered investigating the matter or the people who have investigated it?
If you have researched it, you should write an article or maybe even a book about what you have found.

My research pales in comparison to that done by others. If you're looking for the perspective of former practitioners of magic and witchcraft on how dangerous Harry Potter actually is, that material is one Google search away.

Again, the people who have done zero research on this matter believe Harry Potter is harmless. People who know what they're talking about (many of whom practiced magic and then converted to Christianity) can't wait to tell you how harmful the books can be.

Why do people treat their informed opinion as though its nothing?

But how do we know that their opinion is informed? Just because someone says that they're an ex-magic user doesn't mean it's so.

And quite honestly, if someone is suggesting that pointing a piece of wood at someone and yelling "expelliarmus" is going to do anything then I'm going to find it very hard to take them at all seriously.

You’re welcome to believe anything you want. But I trust their opinions. And one can search for YouTube videos and other sources where people claim to have used spells from Harry Potter and they worked.

All in all, a lot of informed opinions exist on this subject. Priests, pastors, ex-Satanists, casual practioners, they all say it’s real and they all say stay away from it.

Who should I believe?

So it's true because it's on a YouTube video? Do these videos provide demonstrations of the spells in action? I'm going to need a lot more than someone's say so that they've managed to defy the laws of physics.

All in all, a lot of informed opinions exist on this subject. Priests, pastors, ex-Satanists, casual practioners, they all say it’s real and they all say stay away from it.

And scientists say that it's not real: Scientists tested whether the spells in Harry Potter could work in real life

Who should I believe?

Give me concrete proof that the Expelliarmus spell actually works in real life and I'll reconsider my position. Until them I'm going to believe common sense and what I know about how the physical world works rather than the sort of people who freak out at even the slightest mention of magic.

Sorry, but my parents are against J.K. Rowling because she has stated before that she is a practicing witch. She is an actual witch, you guys. So they won't have anything to do with her or her books.

That is why her books are about witches and wizards, because she herself is, in fact, a witch. That is where it all comes from.

Christians should not be supporting a witch, which GOD has commanded that people should not do. He said, Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. In the Old Testament, I believe.

I'll need to see a source for this claim as everything I've seen has suggested J.W Rowling is a Christian. A liberal Christian, but a Christian nonetheless.

It’s pretty good literature, very well written and the names are witty. Dolores Umbridge comes to mind here. Dolores means dolorous pain in English and her last name looks like umbrage . I certainly thought that having a kitten over an imaginary setting and set up was taking things a bit too far. It’s called fiction for a reason smh

Have you’ve ever seen that Harry-Potter-is-the-Devil video. I personally think that’s one of the reasons that people are fleeing the Christian church . Too many people acting like unthinking superstitious idiots . (One of the other reasons is finding out that young earth or old earth creationism isn’t true). I used to wonder how betrayed I’d feel if I realized that my church was either lying to me or playing me for a fool . I feel sorry for anyone whose church does that

Okay I could go forever on this. The lord of the rings...arguably on of the best series in the last 100 years. So this is towards Christians who rant about witchcraft and evil books blah blah blah. Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, The lord of the rings....all books about good vs evil...about love and friendship. If you are so insecure in your faith that you can not read a fairy tail without being scared of the devil..do not read it. I read all those books along with Mallory's King Arthur story, I also read spiderman, superman and batman as a kid. I read Hulk and Wolverine both kicking the devils but. All those stories about friendship, good vs evil, even love. They were entertaining they aloud me to escape the real world for a bit. But I always new it was fantasy.
