I like Saint Luke just because to me he represents both faithful friendship (as shown in his relationship with St. Paul) and reason and Christianity combined (As he was a physician well learned in the Greek cultural arts).

Saint John and Saint Paul are also of course way up there. I don't know enough about any post-Apostolic Saints to have a favorite among them.

Vincent of Saragossa - Wikipedia

Because he endured:
"His outspoken manner so angered the governor that Vincent was inflicted every sort of torture on him. He was stretched on the rack and his flesh torn with iron hooks. Then his wounds were rubbed with salt and he was burned alive upon a red-hot gridiron. Finally he was cast into prison and laid on a floor scattered with broken pottery, where he died. During his martyrdom he preserved such peace and tranquillity that it astonished his jailer, who repented from his sins and was converted."

Saint Thecla comes in a close second. She was sentenced to death after she maintained her virginity by fighting off a nobleman that was attempting to rape her.

All it takes to be a modern "saint" is having to tivo a cherished show in order to go to church service, throwing the poor some outdated leftovers, or tipping the waitstaff. Of course, the saintliest of the modern "saints" are any of the Catholic clergy that do not choose to indulge in nefarious abuses of trust and power.

Moses of the Bible. I love his humility and how he used it to be the deliverer of the law. And I love his incredible perseverance. And I can relate a lot to him because I have speaking problems like he had speaking problems. I love how God slowly got him through that and how he became a great speaker. My speech issues come from a complex brain issue and God has been teaching me and improving me in that recently, so it means a lot to me.

And I just love how the philosophy he delivers is so blunt and hard on the surface, but with that great godly love underneath it. I find his writing to be so multi-layered. I like writing poetry and I love to write in a style like that. Where something looks very stern and cold from first glance but then you see all this warmth surface.

That raises an interesting question in me, Tigger. Has any church body ever officially canonized Luther, who is sometimes called Blessed Martin Luther?

I am going to guess its No, merely because all those that would be likely to do so do not canonize saints, other than accepting the original ones, of course.

Although I have many, St. Jude....... the Patron Saint of Hope and impossible causes has a special place in my heart.

Most Holy Apostle, Saint Jude, patron saint of impossible causes, I place myself in your care. With fervent trust and confidence, I seek your heavenly intercession. Pray for me in my times of need. Help me realize each day that I am not alone when facing sickness, disease, suffering or sorrow.

Assist me now, dear Saint Jude, in petitioning Almighty God for strength when I am in distress, courage to overcome my anxieties, and the gift of a complete healing of mind and body. Ask our Loving Lord to deepen my faith and steadfast conviction in His healing power, and to bless me with the graces necessary to accept whatever may lie ahead for me and for my loved ones.

Thank you, O Holy Saint Jude, for the promise of hope you offer to all who believe. Inspire me always to offer this gift of hope to others. Amen.

Tell me the reason you like him.

I really like Saint Patrick for his history and for making Ireland Christian.
Teresa of Avila. Arguably the most practical and hard-working saint- while at the same time one of the most truly spiritual. Great combination of qualities!

I see a few chuckles when a loved one who is in Christ is called a Saint but scripture does not make a distinction. All those who are in the "Body of Christ" are considered Saints. So that being said..... My mother!

All Christians are saints. But if I had to pick one I admire, it would be William Tyndale for defying the pope, and giving us the English Bible despite being hunted for 12 years and eventually martyred by the catholic church.

Betrayed by a close "friend," before being taken to the stake, strangled to death and then burned. I am actually related to him, his sister is my direct ancestor on one of my sides. Sorry, had to share that.

For me it's between St. Nicholas who punched Arius in the face,

And St. Alexander of Svir who is the only person to touch a vision of the holy Trinity. His relicts are completely incorrupt and you should read the story about how his relicts were recovered after the Russian Revolution.

Wait, the whole Trinity showed up as humans?

I am related to four, count 'em, four Catholic saints that I know of. St. Itta of Metz (592-652) is my 42nd great grand mother. Three of her children are also canonized: St Bavo would be my 42nd great grand uncle, St. Gertrude would be my 42nd great grand aunt, and St Begga is my 41st great grand mother.

So I guess If I had to pick a favorite I'd have to stick with family and go with any of those four.

As we had a rat problem a couple years back, and it turns out St. Gertrude is a patron saint of getting rid of rats/mice (among other things), my wife is fond of her as well :)

And yes, genealogy is a hobby of mine.

Saint Isidore of Seville is the patron saint of the Internet and, by extension, of IT pros. I'm quite certain his intercession kept me out of a lot of trouble when I worked in IT.

Still, I'm as fascinated by Padre Pio as anybody else. He lived an extraordinary life and he was very well aware of that fact but it never went to his head. A stunning example of what God can do with those who humble themselves.

From the early church - Stephen who's story we have preserved for us in the Book of Acts.

From a later period - John Huss who was an inspiration for all of the reformers who followed after.

Both died at the behest of the religious authorities and for the preservation and furtherance of the simple gospel.

How the Irish Got Saved

According to the book "Saint of the Day", the slave raids from Ireland to Britain which captured St. Patrick occurred in 431 AD, the same year Pope Celestine I sent Palladius to Ireland from Britain. Correlation can suggest causation?

If so, then Pope Celestine's mission. Was a success? For by sending Palladius. The raid, which captured Patrick was. evoked. But the raid, which captured Patrick led to the successful evangelisation of the island.
