Why do we need to be awake spiritually in these days. So many things are happening, good and bad.
We need to be spiritually awake so we can see the big picture.Even being fully awake spiritually we can get distracted and not discern subtle spiritual attacks.

Why do we need to be awake spiritually in these days. So many things are happening, good and bad.

It seems some of the 'leaves' on the tree that Christ spoke of (such as in Matthew 24) are starting to have possibly buds. For instance, something that certainly never had happened before, not even close, was that "this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations..." That's definitely never happened before in the past, but today, it has become very close (I don't know whether it's 99% complete or 97%...), and that's entirely new, not even 30 years ago, because for one thing smart phones have brought the internet even to some undeveloped areas, bypassing the old requirement for internet to have infrastructure and wires, so that the internet is available lately in so many more places, and thus additional ways for people that never heard the gospel have only lately happened. So, see, this definite condition He said is now much closer than in any time in the past to happening. It's not the only one. Because of the real possibility that many leaves on the tree as He said are ready to bud (or budding?), then other dangers He spoke of in the last days become quite serious to be ready for, because as He said in Matthew 7:24-27 only by hearing and doing as He said can we be sure to weather storms that will come. So, while it's always been, is today, was yesterday, always, that Matthew 21-23, or the full passage 21-27, tells us only by doing can a person make it, the sudden dangers that may come mean that now-or-never situation could happen for many very quickly at some point, and either they will have oil in their lamps, or will not.

There's when the real meaning of the assurance Christ gave in John 10 comes to help (when we read all the verses together, it shows us the real meaning) --

John 10 ESV

(reading from verse 1 is best. Either way, notice how the verse 29 assurance is about those in verse 27! The ones who are listening to Christ's words and following Him. Perhaps we need to begin (or I do) to point this out each time someone quotes verse 29 as if it is not conditional to those who as verse 27 says listen and follow.)

This cannot be done without the leading of the Holy Spirit. You make it sound as if carnal man can follow Lord Jesus on his own, by his own strength of will. No. We can do nothing by our own righteousness.

Reading John chapter 10 could seem that way? Well, for me the help for that, if it seems that way, is to keep reading, so that you read through John chapter 15 soon.

It's a more full, or perfect, form of what Paul wrote in Romans chapter 8, that we walk in the spirit, not in the flesh. But Christ's wording in John 15 ESV is just more powerfully full, for me, and it would help if "following" Him would seem somehow to be about will power or our own accomplishment without Him. As you read John ch 15, you'll see, I think (with listening), that Romans chapter 8 is echoing Christ in John ch 15.

If I had the wonderful Bible Gateway passage: Ephesians 2:1-10 - New International Version, which is saying what you just said. :)

And if I wondered -- how do we do verse 10?

Then the answer to that question about Ephesians 2:10 is to read John chapter 15.

Thanks for the heads up people need to hear that each time we point out to them to hear Jesus say to us to "listen" and to "follow" -- so people can better understand what it is to follow! :) Have a good evening.

It is an exhilarating thought! Knowing, the internet has proven instrumental as another form of publishing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all He fulfilled and gave.

At the same time, we must bear in mind the necessity of hardcopies of the Bible. For though the miles and remoteness have almost been extinguished, the digital-byte is susceptible to manipulation.

Here lately, portions of the Gospel would not be permitted at all, particularly in the area of convictions and spiritual uncleanliness. They are now the subjects of every catch-phrase under the sun.
