Once again, there are ethics questions concerning Mnuchin's film industry ties. He had owned interest in StormChaser Partners, but he sold his part to then fiancee Louise Linton in 2017 before becoming Sec. of Treasury in order to resolve whatever conflicts of interest that might bring.

However, he married his fiancee, so now those shares are back in his family along with ethics questions. Remember the trade war with China? The film industry is not a priority, but Sec. Mnuchin has negotiated on its behalf, himself.
NYT said:
But Mr. Mnuchin has championed more equitable treatment of American films in China, viewing existing restrictions on foreign entertainment as part of the problematic behavior the Trump administration is trying to correct.

...At a congressional hearing last month, Robert Lighthizer, President Trump’s top trade negotiator, said increasing the revenue share earned by American film companies in China was “absolutely” a priority in the talks, and he highlighted Mr. Mnuchin’s role.

“Secretary Mnuchin has been very much involved,” Mr. Lighthizer added. “He of course knows a great deal about that industry, a lot more than I do.”
Hm. Another self-dealer in Donald's cabinet?

I have some mixed feelings about this. His "divestiture" from his investments is so laughably pathetic that I find myself unclear about which side of this equation is more stupid, apathetic, and/or corrupt - him for trying to pull it off or us for not making a bigger stink about it. It's so absurd that I'd believe him if he said he was just trying to troll us.

OTOH, there is a real problem with China stealing our IP and, as an investor in these properties, his interests are pretty well aligned with those of the country at large. So, I'm inclined to let this one slide - not because I don't have a problem with his conflict of interest, but because we'll probably wind up benefiting from it, too.

Well, he shouldn't be personally getting involved negotiations involving the film industry - he has "people" who do that for a living - if he is personally financially interested. That is corruption or the appearance of corruption.
