There has been considerable debate about this. Many say hemp oil helps them with pain, seizures and a host of other illnesses. I asked a pastor the other day, and while he is pretty certain smoking week for recreation is against the bible, he was sort of unsure about hemp oil, especially non THC hemp oil. While he did not think it was suitable for him or his wife, who has a lot of pain to use it (because they are in ministry), they could not find a suitable answer to if a christian should use it or not. I personally think non THC hemp oil is not a bad thing, but I do want to post a peer review about it. My son has autism, and I asked his psychiatrist about it, and she said that hemp oil can induce psychosis. Basically that means if Schizoaffective disorder runs in the family, that someone taking hemp oil regularly can get psychosis earlier than if the did not use it. It won't give it to you if it does not run in the family but it can if it does. So I was just thinking, I would like some confirmation about this so i googled it, and found out she was right:

I was reading a peer review and found this:

"Several reports suggest that the average Δ9-THC content of cannabis may be increasing [170]. The psychoactive effects of cannabis vary according to its Δ9-THC content. Cannabidiol has been shown to have anxiolytic and antipsychotic effects [126, 242] leading to the suggestion that CBD may offset some of the adverse effects of Δ9-THC. Just as there is variability in the Δ9-THC content of cannabis, there is variability in the CBD content of cannabis. Thus, if the consequences of cannabis exposure are related to Δ9-THC content and if CBD offsets some of the effects of Δ9-THC, then exposure to cannabis with a higher Δ9-THC content and/or low CBD content might be associated with greater negative consequences. "

peer review here:
Cannabis and psychosis/schizophrenia: human studies

This is not a thread about recreational use of marijuana, or about using THC hemp oil as that is against the rules.

but this is about the morality of non THC hemp oil.
(I don't think it's against the rules to post this, but I just wanted you to know I am not really sure)

because a pastor friend didn't like the idea of his family using it. I just thought maybe there were more christians that didn't like it.
I just don't understand on what grounds it is suggested not to be okay.

God made the plants for our medicine.
Yet nobody bats an eye when someone pops a pill that is toxic in large doses.
Hemp oil is non toxic in any amount.
Where has common sense gone?
Everything is toxic in large amounts though no CBD death has ever been recorded.
A common dose for the more concentrated CBD Oil is 5 drops per day.

Why would it be wrong to use this oil?
A pastor would be concerned about his reputation. If he was seen smoking or taking drops of oil or anything he might get feedback about his reputation. Even if the complaint is without merit.

(now the study does not mention if they are smoking it or using oil with THC or oil without THC, it does not say, I assume the article is about THC).

There are people who swear hemp oil helps them with many problems related to there health.

I was placed on Marinol (some kind of pot) it really did not do much in helping to improve my appetite in the early days of my cancer.I

I'm not sure, but I think Hemp is still considered illegal by the Federal Government.

Pastor's can't use it because there will be people in the congregation who will condemn them for it. They live under constant and heavy levels of scrutiny from plank searchers.

I'd check the legality of it too as silverback suggested.

Hemp oil is supposed to be the best form of Omega 3 that you can get, so I’ve heard. It’s sold in health food stores legally because the THC are trace amounts, it’s not like smoking weed. I think they only have THC free versions because people can come up hot on drug tests, maybe making drug tests more sensitive to exclude negligible amounts of THC would be too expensive.

I’m wondering if the THC free version might actually weaken the health benefits at all, or if they are just identical in that respect? Anyway, because of random drug testing at work I have to pay extra for no THC.

in states that legalized marijuana like california, you can buy hemp oil, with THC. And also hemp oil is not regulated by the FDA, so you may not have a full bottle of oil, it may have less hemp oil, or a mixture of hemp oil and other oil, to rip you off. A 1 to 20 ratio of hemp oil to THC, is often used here. It's so small (5%) that you cannot get high on it. At least at the recommended daily use. But I probably would not use it, if you think God is telling you not to. (even if it is legal).

I remember my heath food store selling hemp oil long before any states started legalizating weed, it tastes disgusting lol!! Today they have liquid gel options, or drops under the tongue. The liquid gells I get are the tiniest supplement I take by far, so yes very small amounts. And they are expensive! So I’d probably have to take $200 worth of it all at once to get high from it lol

I think they need to study hemp oil more and do more tests on it. Maybe some clinical trials of both the 5 percent THC oil and the just plain oil.

My S.O. has sleep-related epilepsy and cannot take conventional medication, but getting a CBD extract from a medical marijuana dispensary has stopped her seizures at night.

I was also using this years ago for pain relief, specifically fibromyalgia and frozen shoulder. It's better than the alternatives, like opioids (I was given a perscription for Oxy and I just threw it away). Amazon has since stopped selling it, due to the profile of the product going up (I don't think its actually illegal to sell hemp products in the US under federal law, provided they do not contain THC).

So no, I don't think its a sin. Anything that treats disease is not a sin.

my mother in law takes hemp oil for her knee pain, (two drops a day) it has also made her blood pressure go down. She gets much better sleep with the hemp oil (non THC). They get a really pure form of it from hawaii I think. In Israel they have actually allowed insurance to pay for hemp oil for medical reasons, under a prescription. They are sort of leading the research, both for this, and also for cancer. I hear they have a cure for cancer soon, you can look it up.

This ‘Debate’ doesn’t even make sense, even if you Biblically debate that you should never ever be high or drunk, even slightly. The Biblical debate should have nothing to do with consumption of trace amounts of THC that don’t get you high, the Biblical debate should be about being high. This is almost like debating whether or not you can use glue on envelopes, because some people sniff glue to get high, it misses the point.
