Growing up, we lived on some rural land near the border with Mexico that happened to have an illegal alien trail crossing it. One day, I was out getting exercise, and I heard some commotion back at the house. I carried a pole across my shoulders that I used to vault over the shrubbery, because I liked to run off-trail over the hills. On the way down the road, I passed the cause of the commotion, a few illegal aliens walking up the road, away from my parents' property. They gave me a cautious greeting, and I said "hello" back.
When I reached the house, someone (not a family member) said he thought I was going to whack them with the pole and chase them away. Why would I do that? The apparent angst was in regards to the fact that these people had stopped to drink water from a spigot, in spite of being told not to, at the threat of gun violence, no less. They apparently decided that they would rather take the water and risk being shot.
Now, I'm all in favor of border security and doing everything necessary to prevent these crossings, but I see no sense in denying them water. On the other hand, I'm also annoyed by these self-righteous liberals who blame an illegal's death in the desert on our effective border security driving them out there. Border security is not attempted murder. Aside from the trash they left behind, they also eventually broke a window and robbed my parents. Not wanting these invaders is a valid concern. They do need to be stopped.
In the event that they are not stopped, then there's still no reason to withhold aid. It would be better to give it to them at a detention center just prior to sending them back, though.
