It’s clear from Proverbs 14:14 that backsliding spiritually comes from doing what we want rather than what God wants. I’m convinced that one doesn’t wake up one morning and decide to back away from God. Amen. The backsliders heart is "key" here. It is time to examine it and get real about our stance with the living God and if there are other "gods" that the heart has embraced and "replaced" the living God. Another question is, if there was a real and genuine becoming a "new creature in Christ" in the first place or was it just a passing "whim" or temporary "curiosity" and/or "interest" of many.

The above is the epitome of "unstable". This verse comes to mind:

"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." ~James 1:8

What also comes to mind is this:

"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." ~Matthew 7:23

And this:

"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith;" ~2 Cor 13:5
