What if semi-auto firearms were outlawed?

You are thinking logically. The people behind these insane IPs do not. This one never made it to the ballot; the backers gave up because they didn't feel they would have enough time to gather signatures. I'm sure they will be back to try again later.
You know they will! And for that reason we need to be organized with the same message, the same vigor, the same intention..., and we need to do our own policing too. We can't stand behind illegal use. We can't sit aside and watch our rights be abused either, just because a right is being exercised if it is being done wrongly and threatens the rights of all those doing it right we need to be able to step in and shut it down. If someone is convicted of a crime with a gun they need have the right taken away. Hey, wait! It already is. But, for a non-violent crime and if a person has done their time, be it a felony conviction and prison time they need to get their rights back and it needs to be at the hands of Conservative, Christian Gun Owners pushing the Republican party to make it happen.

Yeah lets ban guns because all criminals that habitually break laws will lawfully turn their guns in.

I find liberal logic hilarious in keeping honest people honest. Banning guns do nothing.

Our former governor (a Hillary stooge) was glad to restore voting rights to 300,000 ex-felons, and I'm sure he restored their gun rights too...o_O NOT!

Ever heard of the Haynes Amendment? A convicted criminal cannot be required to turn in guns or register them because for them to do so would violate the 5th amendment. They would be admitting they were illegally in possession of guns, which would violate their right to not self incriminate. Another fine court decision.

Having been involved in Law Enforcement there are a lot of people convicted of felonies and incarcerated who do their time but should never have been there. There are also people who were convicted under today's zero tolerance policy of domestic violence and they should never have been there. I am not judging them automatically worthy. I mean that they should (1) have never been guilty of a violent crime (2) go through 5 years probation starting the day they are released and have nothing more on their record (3) be required to petition the court and have a hearing before their peers. The person would have to prove they are worthy of having their rights returned, otherwise, what do they have to work toward besides just staying out of jail and with today's laws about prisons that is not enough incentive.

Looking at my array of SA's one day I pondered this question. What would I do if there was a sudden turn of events and we awoke one day to discover that all semi-auto's were outlawed. There might be something a civil skirmish but I really doubt a true war would ensue. And that would leave me wondering what to do. Well I did something over the years. I countered each semi-auto with a Revolver or manual action rifle or shotgun so that I could continue to be public with my firearms without causing a stink. My first were .22's in LR and Magnum, a .357 magnum means a 38+P and Special too. A couple of .308's, a .30-30BoltA, several .22 rifles, and a break action .223 CVA Hunter. Shotgunwise a 12P, a 16SBA, 20P and a 20BoltA, a 410BoldA and a 410BkA so given that my semi-autos would no longer be allowed on the streets I still have plenty of manual choices to cover just about any event from hunting to home invasion to an all out war against an invading army. What about you? If it did happen could you come to the party with the Lord's Word in one hand and a proper defense firearm in the other?

Amendment: I wrote this question last night then woke up this morning to the news that Deefield, IL passed an ordinance which goes into effect June 13 and makes it unlawful to possess, sell, transport or store assault rifles. The weapons are defined as semi-automatic rifles able to accept a large magazine. The ordinance also bans certain models, including the AR-15, the AK-47 and Uzis.

Deerfield residents with assault weapons may sell them, hand them over to police or move them out of the village within 60 days of the ordinance going into effect. There are exceptions for law enforcement officers and members of the military.

Violating the ordinance could result in a fine of at least $250 and up to $1,000 for each day the violation occurs and was written in spite of standing law in Illinois that no municipality in the state is allowed to make any such laws. They did it anyway and this is the kind of Tyranny we were warned would happen.

I expect this to happen at some point, right now military style semi automatic weapons seem to be the focus. However, if the democrats retake the Senate, and Presidency in 2020, I think it will happen pretty quick.

A total semiautomatic ban would probably follow in a few years, depending on politics, and other factors.

A total handgun ban will be next, once they realize handguns are used 90% of the time in shootings.

I honestly think pumps, levers, bolts, single shot/double barrel firearms are pretty safe for now.

What would I do if we were told to turn in all our firearms? I would take all of my beautiful Benelli Shotguns (5) and my Ruger Revolvers (2) and turn them in. We as Christians, have to be subject to the civil government, and endure suffering, unless we are asked to do something in violation of God's Laws. If that happens then we must face persecution for the sake of the faith.

They already know that; they're just waiting for a chance.

The "ban handguns" movement was big from 1968 until the early 1990s when concealed carry became popular and broadly legalized.

I've fought against these fools for over 50 years. They may be dormant, but they're alive.

My state, Washington, passed a law last year that designated all semi-automatic rifles as "assault rifles" and attached increased fees and raised the age to 21 to buy them.

Absolutely idiotic law. The last I checked, over 50% of the sheriffs in the state have declared that they will not enforce the new law.

Just to really illustrate how stupid, nonsensical, and completely bereft of critical thinking this law is, consider that a young man joins the US Marine Corps at age 18, goes to boot camp, then to a specialized sniper school, goes to Afghanistan and does a tour. He experiences the horrors of war, gets decorated, and comes home on leave and wants to buy a .22 rifle to hunt rabbits with.

He can't. He's only 20yrs old, and the liberals have somehow reasoned that he is too young to own such a weapon.

Another example...

Under Washington law, this is an assault rifle and I need to have my HIPPA rights waived and my medical records reviewed by the local sheriff to make sure I am mentally fit to buy one...

That is, BTW, an identical rifle to the one I inherited from my grandfather. It's a Remington Speedmaster .22 Short, purchased in 1939, and used to hunt small game and dispatch animals caught in traps.

This gun, is one I ordered two weeks ago online and had it shipped to my FFL. It is considered a pistol and is considered by the liberals to be less scary and dangerous than my grandfather's old .22 rifle...

I bought the above firearm because the new gun laws angered me and it was my response to the leftist attempt to suppress my natural right to self-defense.

I currently have a 12ga shotgun for a home-defense weapon. I will now have the new pistol shown above to fill that role.

The latest is now they are trying to pass a law limiting magazine capacity. I immediately ordered a bunch of high capacity magazines in response. Had the leftists in Seattle minded their own business, I would not have purchased that firearm, nor all of the extra magazines.

I am doing my part to ensure that the more laws they try to pass, the more guns and high capacity magazines are brought into the state.

I will stand with my sheriffs and refuse to live under tyranny or obey immoral laws.

I don't live in the US, so I have never handled a gun. The only ones I have ever seen in the UK have been with police or the military. I have had bodyguards armed with assault rifles (or maybe carbines - not sure I could tell the difference) when abroad for work, but never had to pick one up myself.

AMen, Amen, Amen! Same here. But given the worst case I might have to resort to single shot break action shotguns and rifles so I just bought another single shot combo in .20 and .223 yesterday. That gives me two .223 single shots that I can protect us from zombies with if they take my AR. Plus several .357 revolvers, 38's, .22 magnums. Zombies don't stand a chance here in Texas by gollies.

There is an assumption that those people have been trained and vetted. I would not bet on it if I were a betting man. There is also an assumption that they would stand their ground if facing a band of enemy running at them with evil intentions and fully armed. Don't bet on it. I am just thankful that in the US we have the right to carry for self protection because evil doesn't respect a policeman with a badge. It targets them.

In all honesty, in 2020 if the Democrats hold the house, and take the Senate, and Presidency there will be a Federal Assault Weapons Ban. I read Feinsteins legislation, it is the same old stuff, 10 round capacity, semi-auto only, you can keep the ones you have if you register them...Bla...Bla...Bla.

I think what it will eventually get to is a ban on all handguns, and semiautomatic firearms.

I think it would stay there for a while, pumps, levers, bolts, DB, single shot, and black powder weapons will be safe.

It's strange, you can keep an M1 under Feinsteins legislation, if you want to see mayhem, unleash two guys in a school with M1's

I own one MSR. If I HAD to stop carrying it because the democrats choose to violate the 2A, the only thing it would affect is my hog hunting at night. It is the only gun I am comfortable with attaching my night vision scope and having enough rounds for fast follow up shots needed for humane kills. But I won't give it up. Nor will I give up any other gun I own because I have committed no crimes with them. If possessing them becomes criminal then I will be made a criminal for exercising my rights as a human and as an American. I presented guns to my kids and grandchildren but it was always with the agreement that if they felt they had to give any of them away then they were to return them to me. If they wanted to sell them then I would give them fair market value and call it their belated birthday present. I am not a gun fanatic. I am a believer in the Constitution of the United States being what has made this country strong and most desirable to live in.

I am just old fashioned I guess. Most of my firearms are pump, bolt, or lever action, and throw in a double barrel 12 gauge coach gun. For the rifles, I like old cartridges like 30.06, 30-30, 45-70, etc. My Marlin 60 .22 is a tube fed semi auto though. I do have a Ruger .45ACP, but I don't carry it anywhere.

I had to carry a M-16 in the Army, but never was fond of it. I never got all caught up the black rifle fad.

Given we have only so much real estate on our bodies, like you I like the old dependable cartridges. .30-06, .308, .30-30 lever, .30-30 bolt, .243, .223 single, .223 AR, .223 CVA, .22M bolt, .22LR, .22 lever, .22 bolt and .17HMR. 410, 16ga, 20ga, and 12ga., and add 9mm and .40 pistol carbines and that about rounds it out. So, in your opinion what is the advantage of a 45-70 over any of the others?

I had a Marlin 1895 lever in 45-70 that was a great carry rifle when I lived in the interior of Alaska for 10 years. A 405 grain round nose in it did exactly what I needed and was easy to shoulder and shoot and quick follow ups if needed. Great carry rifle when I took the boys fishing in the Black River area. A big thud when it hits the side of a Moose. Like hitting them with a boulder. Most shots in that area I lived are under 125 yds. Yeah, there are other cartridges that would also work, but I knew a guy who blasted a grizzly in the face with a 30.06 with a 220 gn round nose north of Fairbanks and he tracked the bear for 5 miles and never found it. Great... a wounded bear wandering around. Probably died later.

Something like a .375 H&H would not be as ideal as a carry rifle even though it is a powerful round.
