of course, this is nothing new; they've been doing it quite literally since his UN performance last September (to his credit, at least he didn't bomb completely), but now they're doing it to his face, in the White House itself:

During an Oval Office meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, who’s overseeing the White House’s trade talks with China, and a delegation from Beijing, including Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, Trump said he had no use for memoranda of understanding “because they don’t mean anything.”

It led to this exchange, in which the American president’s own trade rep apparently tried to explain a basic element of the negotiations:

LIGHTHIZER: An MOU is a contract. It’s the way trade agreements are generally used. People refer to it like it’s a term sheet. It’s not a term sheet. It’s an actual contract between the two parties. A memorandum of understanding is a binding agreement between two people. And that’s what we’re talking about. It’s detailed; it covers everything in great detail. It’s just called a memorandum of understanding. That’s a legal term. It’s a contract. […]

TRUMP: By the way, I disagree. I think that a memorandum of understanding is not a contract….

It was at this point that China’s vice premier actually started laughing, apparently amazed that the American president and the top American trade negotiator couldn’t even agree on the purpose and significance of an MOU.

I don't know. The man is in his 3rd term, I think? why people are still laughing..I don't know. It's nothing new. But the man is leading the country now cause it is his purpose now just like every one else who has a purpose in life, no matter the outcome of it all, it means that's how things were suppose to happen. People should leave the man alone. It's getting old. Let the man do his job since it's his purpose now..we are to put our faith in God anyway, not man. So what the heck...like I said in the end God is still in control and will restore things......

Before he charged into politics, he spent 14 years as an entertainer. His purpose is and has always been to be entertaining. He's fulfilling it marvelously.

You notice in the video that both negotiators agreed to move away from the language of MOU to trade deal. Your rhetoric of some major guffaw at the Presidents expense was somewhat of a nothing burger when you watch the video... thanx for posting the evidence to the contrary

Btw, a MOU may be binding in principle but is not a signatory contract. From Wikipedia:

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is a type of agreement between two (bilateral) or more (multilateral) parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action. It is often used either in cases where parties do not imply a legal commitment or in situations where the parties cannot create a legally enforceable agreement. It is a more formal alternative to a gentlemen's agreement.

Of course, if you understood Foreign Policy and/or Chinese culture, you'd know that even a minor chuckle at the expense of (and in the face of) a foreign head of state is (normally) a serious taboo...

It is - IMHO - much ado about nothing.

The President has never followed standard protocol. So the issue is really minor. Why is the left so obsessed with who is laughing at us? Do they no remember when the previous administration was snubbed by the Queen? Or when he was whistled at in Germany (equivalent to booing in America)?

It's not a popularity contest, it's not about how many people like us. You know what gets people to like us - us doing what they want - then they will love us.

You know who laughed at us? NATO - right before they gave billions more for their own defense.

We should do everything in our power to cooperate with our allies, but not do things, just so they will like us. It's not a middle school prom king/queen competition.

Not at all -- Donald quite literally got laughed at at the UN last September when he attempted to boast about his greatness (as I mentioned in the OP)

I wouldn't expect as raucous a laugh in the Oval Office itself -- but then again, I wouldn't expect any at all; life is full of surprises... don't you think?

Not really, no. I remember a lot of huffing and puffing from Donald.

China tried to ignore and marginalize the tariffs but eventually came to the table. Same as NK...

China is laughing at the table. NK is dangling a Nobel Peace Prize (which Donald wants desperately enough to beg Japan for a nomination) in front of him -- expecting him to give away the store in exchange for it... which Donald's own advisers are afraid he might actually do.

Why people keep saying leave the man alone when all I heard was how Obama was going to destroy the fabric of our souls with his alleged illegal alien homosexual liberal ways and transgender wife? To me it was annoying especially since I didn't vote for him. Now everyone should be quiet about their critiques all of a sudden?
