Jehovah's witnesses are convinced that all the denominations are wrong and that their organisation is right.

I know.
And, apart from any doctrines, this is enough to tell me that they are a cult/false/not Christian.
I have said to JWs, "Yes I read the Bible; I'm a Christian", and had the reply "so are we".
Wrong. If they were Christians, their response would probably be, "great; which church do you go to? How long have you known the Lord?" And maybe even "would you like us to pray with you?" Then they would leave, after a further few minutes of fellowship.
Instead, their response is to try to get me to attend THEIR church, or explain why my belief is wrong.
Christians may not agree with everything that another denomination teaches, but I don't believe they would go door to door trying to persuade other Christians away from it. We would fellowship with other Christians; not say, "yes, but ......"

(I know there are arguments like that on here; I'm talking about doing door to door witnessing.)

I prefer to ask if they would like to come in and have a cup of tea or coffee.
A number of years ago on a very hot, humid summer day my door bell rang. It was two young ladies, both Mormon missionaries. The one girl was very pale and looked like she was about to pass out; the other one didn't look much better. I told them that they were not going to convert anyone at my house, but that they really needed to get out of the heat. Apparently they had just arrived and no one had warned them about central Pennsylvania humidity. I got them some ice water and we sat and chatted for at least a half hour, maybe longer. I explained that I was going to be taking the train out through Salt Lake City and asked what I should see during my visit. They told me different places to go including, of course, Temple Square. When they were both feeling better I sent them on their way armed with some much-needed bottled water. I was glad that I was able to be of help.

The next time you have Jehovah's witnesses knock on your door ask this question - it's a question asked by the apostles and see how they answer - ask them "what are the signs that the end is coming and that the end of this world will come soon?"
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and offerings, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And they asked him, saying, Teacher, when therefore shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are about to come to pass? And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am he ; and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them. And when ye shall hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified: for these things must needs come to pass first; but the end is not immediately. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there shall be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake. It shall turn out unto you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay. But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. And not a hair of your head shall perish. In your patience ye shall win your souls. (Luke 21:5-19)
See if they skip the red underlined text or gloss it over in their explanation. I have reason to suspect that they will.
Sat next to a JW preacher in a shuttle van a few months ago. He was convinced Jesus returned in 1917 or 1914 and is still here hidden somehow. Then he said when Jehovah comes again...I politely asked “isn’t Jesus Jehovah?” Well the conversation took a different turn from there.

Agree though the coffee pot was always on at our house.

Before we moved into the city we were in a rural area up on the mountain and to a social being such as myself, it sometimes felt pretty isolated because we weren't close enough to our neighbors for regular contact. So I appreciated the Jehovah Witnesses who were always polite, cordial, and made for good company.

I enjoyed discussing Bible and theology with them but alas, most teams didn't return after a visit or two even though they were respected, welcomed, and treated as honored guests in our home. I know enough Bible that I am not going to be persuaded to some of their doctrines. I did enjoy having them though.

When they knock on my door, I give them cookies and/or bread, and a bottle of water. That’s how I treat everybody who graces my doorstep, from JW to Girl Scouts to the FedEx man. My home is a refuge and I’ll treat it as such by not seeking to antagonize people in order to feel better about my faith:

I prefer to ask them why they changed the bible from:
"the word was God" to "the Word was A God" - the difference is chalk and cheese.

They are not even monotheist.

I then ask them why they wish I was dead?
I had all my blood changed at birth because of a rare condition....their answer is usually "its not your fault, its your parents"...so I point out "you still wish me dead whoevers fault it was!"

I actually feel sorry for them, to have found christianity (almost) - but run as a cheap MLM scheme in which "recruits" are everything. I suspect most of them were searching and were unlucky with what they found.

I suggest they read early fathers, and find out what the church was really about.

Actually, so far they have not taken me up on it...it’s usually a scared looking teenager and a mother figure who just hand me a copy of their publications and tell me they will come back another time.

But I would be interested in discussing things with them (and your OP might be an interesting topic if approached in love).

Sir you are a kind and loving soul i wish i could have met you in my years as a JW in my area you see that woman and child you see that you only have seen she is possibly assigned to that area and dont feel to sad for the child any good christian makes their children go to worship with them or at least i did my earthly father did if you were living at home and under my Dads roof you went.i can say this because she seems devoted to the JW belief.By the time that child is 18 years old he would have read the Bible through probably 8 times or more they are very strong in their beliefs they expect persecution they publish a book or use to honoring the missionaries whom have died in service. They proclaimed some years ago that they have reached the entire world with the kingdom news.I will warn you though when you ask them in they are ready for you their entire life is to teach what they perceive to be the word of GOD.

1 Peter 3:15 15But sanctify the LORD God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

They believe that the World religions are all false except the JW`S but i can say this if it were not for them i would be on the way to Hell i learned to LOVE the Bible from them as they constantly study and speak publicly they preach as well as anyone else and they preach 45 minutes i guess probably the
only reason i left was GOD healed me and the JW`S don`t believe in Healing I found out by researching and trusting n JESUS and asking him to lead me i found out they were wrong in a lot of things they dont believe in the Trinity, only a 144,000 are going to Heaven and so on I hope you can help the Lady and her son because she probably is living with a husband that if he isnt a JW probably beats her or runs around or other things lots of these ladys get abused because they are taught to be under the husbands headship imagine that this day an time.I am on their do not visit list so they want speak to me at all My wife and i dis fellowshiped ourselves from them.I believe that any preacher or Bible teacher whom doesn't try and help them will probably answer to the LORD The JW`S dont have much respect for Preachers
because they think their scared of them i no for 16 years i challenged them to scriptural prove me wrong. The Trinity is not spelled out in the Scriptures its there, and its a matter of faith I now believe the
Trinity.I will share this. One of the worst and best days of my life was when i come to the reality that JESUS was GOD in the flesh I asked for forgiveness of my sins and asked him into my life now the bad part all the preaching and teaching and knocking on doors to spread the JW [ JESUS STILL SAVES ]
faith when i found out it was false almost tore me apart i wept for days but the Spirit of GOD rested on me three straight days you see i thought i was doing what JESUS commanded Mat 28:19 i didnt think i had been forgiven or could be it took me a long while to recover but by GODS grace i am what i am
Blessed of GOD and highly favored i didnt mean to rant but just maybe we should pray for the courage
they have, the boldness the clean living i loved them they were family i bootlegged sold Drugs made drugs
alcoholic pothead a very bad liar whoremonger brawler cursed like a sailor ect ,ect ect but now
they wouldnt even let me inside their home I sure have a lot to be thankful for and also.
Please forgive me GINGER BEER for the hijak Peace

Jehovah's witnesses are convinced that all the denominations are wrong and that their organisation is right. So when people say "I am a Christian and satisfied with my church" they see the Christian as a victim of "Christendom" which they call "The world empire of false religion". So they will continue to come back with their literature and the hope of making a convert or two.

I see. Honestly they're just a cult that pushes their opinions and religion on others. I mean I can see the importance of converting people who aren't Christians but honestly Christians should unite together. But Mormons are more common around here than JWs.

Hi brother ..I do not discuss " orthodox theology " and I try not to debate . I do what I believe scripture says to do ...I talk about what the Lord has done for me . My lostness and His Mercy . My wickedness and His goodness . ( And they overcame by the blood of the lamb, the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives unto the death. ) The word of our testimony is powerful and it agrees with " Speak every man truth with his neighbor for we are members one of another ." Also , my testimony is what Jesus has done for me of which i can attest .
JW are not unlike anyone who has been indoctrinated and is somewhat a form of gnosticism ...there are many groups that believe they have special knowledge and everyone else is lost . ( This includes orthodox Jews , some Amish and many protestants ...maybe some catholics ...I do not know . ) But I would suppose it begins with pride and the inability to be wrong . Regarding the verses from John to not invite them in etc , that says to not invite those in who abide not in the doctrines of Christ . I would take that to mean those who denied the physical manifestation of Christ ... ( in John's days ..they were gnostics who denied Christ came in the flesh . ) I wonder if that also means those who deny that God was in Christ , reconciling the world unto Himself ???

What's an MLM scheme?

"multi level marketing"..Think for example herbalife .. (which is not a perfect analogy)

But the entire focus of JWs is forever on more recruits to the scheme. All have "quotas" for contacts/ conversions. An agressive double glazing company thinks just the same!

I do not recollect that forming part of Christs message.

Our job in all of our many different "rooms in the Fathers mansion" that is Christianity is to proclaim the good news, and live our vocation
"that you love one another, is how they will know you".

Whether that seed falls on good or bad soil, and specific numbers of recruits/ results driven "marketing" - is not part of the message!
I am reminded of mother Teresas message: "God does not call us all to great things, but calls us to do small things with great love"

Revelation and Daniel are Adventist favourites. Jehovah's witnesses are a kind of Adventist. Not the Seventh Day sort but closely related.

Rather distant from our view point! As a child they would come to our house. My father, though a very evil man, knew his bible. He would take their bible, and from it would show them how they were wrong about a lot of things. They would leave totally confused with lots of question for their leaders. I wish I had paid attention. We later found out the church blacklisted our house and no one was allowed to come to our door again! I visited my father 35 yeas later---they still were not allowed to come!

Greetings GingerBeer and parousia70,
The next time you have Jehovah's witnesses knock on your door ask this question - it's a question asked by the apostles and see how they answer - ask them "what are the signs that the end is coming and that the end of this world will come soon?"

On a few occasions I have mentioned Acts 1:11 and suggested that this teaches that Jesus will literally return to the earth.
Acts 1:11 (KJV): Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Acts 1:11 (NWT 2013): and said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who was taken up from you into the sky will come in the same manner as you have seen him going into the sky.”

They usually speak of Jesus returning invisibly in 1914 but if allowed I then quote Acts 3:19-21:
Acts 3:19–21 (KJV): 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Acts 3:19–21 (NWT 2013) 19 Repent, therefore, and turn around so as to get your sins blotted out, so that seasons of refreshing may come from Jehovah himself 20 and he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus. 21 Heaven must hold this one within itself until the times of restoration of all things of which God spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets of old.

My understanding of the above is that this clearly states that Jesus will no longer be in heaven, but JWs believe that Jesus and the 144,000 will be in heaven for the 1000 years. On another subject the above verses are different to the SDA belief that the earth will be burnt at the coming of Christ, while the above speaks of times of refreshing and restoration.

Parousia 70: I am not sure if you agree with my brief perspective of Acts 1:11 and Acts 3:19-21 above, but your comments seem to be against the pre-millennial view and yet the above verses are a clear testimony to the pre-millennial view. Acts 3:21 speak of these times of restoration as being “spoken by the mouth of all God’s holy prophets”. Good examples of the pre-millennial view are Isaiah 2:1-4 and Daniel 2:44.

Kind regards
Trevor

I prefer to ask if they would like to come in and have a cup of tea or coffee.
I did this... They came one summer day. I told them to give me their literature and I will read it... then, come back in a week... They did.

They will always "tag team you" Two against one... They really know their stuff..

However, I had purchased a really good book, written by an converted person who used to be JW... The book laid out their entire Shtick.

I was prepared and picked each step they made apart... Each of their "facts", "points" and arguments had no support based on scripture.

They left, looking back over their shoulder, spouting the Chapter and verse of one scripture... and I replied with Three that refuted it.

They never came back.

OR.. you can just put up a sticker on your front door that states that you are a regular blood donor.

My mother in law lives in a small city.. this ended their visits.

This one time I used the opportunity to talk about scripture, I'd take them through all the passages about the trinity, especially in the old testament, skipping the gospel of John.

It helps to mention these references in passing without saying "trinity" totally slips under the radar.

Jesus warning in the three synoptic gospels is worth taking up with Jehovah's witnesses given their emphasis on end times and the signs - wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes in diverse places ...

The JWs who have mentioned these passages to me adroitly avoid the first element in Jesus's warning - that people would come in Jesus' name and say that the end was at hand and that Christ had returned.

Have you found an answer to that question yet?
Well I have often been wrong in what I believed the scripture meant . I have also been wrong in how I acted on my understanding ...or put another way , I was often ( and still am ) a midget and could only see so far ...it was not that I was wrong or living an untruth but rather I could not see further .
What I would believe to be the case in what John was saying is maybe the equivalent of someone offering an oxygen mask but no oxygen ...it has the promise of life but no life . These are things I am still working out . The difficulty arises when I see examples throughout history of those who have "orthodox" belief but not necessarily manifesting the fruits ..very dogmatic and quite frankly , orthodox ( according to what I also believe to be true or right belief ) . Very zealous and devout slave holders , minsters who read the same bible that I do . All of the bloodshed by both protestants and catholics during and after the reformation ...these type things make my wary of my own understandings not to mention what we understand as orthodox .
