Hi Marilyn,

How does God decide who "them" are?

What are the distinguishing characteristics that He looks for?

1. Jewish DNA
2. Jewish religion
3. Jewish culture
4. Faith and obedience in and to His Son

?

Hi jgr,

`Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before him for those who fear the Lord and meditate on His name.

"They shall be mine," says the Lord of hosts, "On the day that I make them my jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him." (Micah 3: 16 & 17)

Hi Marilyn,

Number 4.

You win.

Hi jgr,

I should have explained a bit more. These are your categories -

What are the distinguishing characteristics that He looks for?

1. Jewish DNA
2. Jewish religion
3. Jewish culture
4. Faith and obedience in and to His Son

However I have a 5th one.

5. `Word of the LORD to ISRAEL ....Those who fear the LORD, (God) & meditate on His name.` (Mal. 1: 1, 3: 16)

That is those Jews, (DNA) who turn to God in the trib.

So why are the first century faithful Jews disqualified from your answer? They had the DNA......they feared the LORD.....they followed HIs instruction and were saved. Why are they - at minimum - excluded from your requirements to qualify as Israel?

And this causes another problem. How are modern-day Jews to qualify as the Israel of God? You mentioned DNA - are they going to be doing 23 and Me tests (in this belief of yours)?

Hi mkgal,

I thought we were discussing which Jews went through the trib. The first C faithful Jews are part of the Body of Christ, as they believed in Christ. The trib, Jews do not understand about Jesus, but turn to God, Jehovah. They come to learn of the Lord Jesus Christ when He reveals Himself to them. (Sech. 12: 10)

Hi Marilyn,

I'll add a clarifier:

What are the distinguishing characteristics that He looks for today?

I presume that your choice is still number 4.

Set aside discussion of the Great Tribulation (that's not really what's being discussed).

What we've been discussing is your distinction between first century true Israel (and how you've disqualified them from being in the group called "Israel" - even though they demonstrated their faith and followed Jesus' very instruction to them) - and what you're calling "the Nation of Israel".

JGR asked you how you believe God distinguishes this modern-day group that YOU are talking about - and you're still answering "their faith and obedience in and to His son"......but you seem to have completely overlooked and disregarded - in effort to fit your expected time frame of things - the first century genetic and spiritual Jews and how God fulfilled His promises to them (and made them a true "city on a hill" shining in His glory).

Zech. 12:10 just doesn't seem to make sense in the modern-day. How can people today be accused of "piercing Jesus"? How can they genuinely be from "the House of David" (you've recently been answering "by faith and obedience"....but that doesn't make sense). The first century Jews, however.....with biological ties to the Israelites DO fit the desription of Zech 12:10 which says:

And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

Hi mkgal,

If you read the context of those mourning, (Zech. 12: 10) it is in the `day` when the Lord delivers one-third through the fire, (Zech. 13: 9) and brings all nations to judgments down in the valley of Jehoshaphat. (Zech.14: 2 & Joel 3: 1 & 2)

The `they` refers to them as a nation. It doesn`t make sense for it to be in the first century as the whole land didn`t mourn, and all the families didn`t mourn. (Zech. 12: 11 - 14)

The context of Zechariah is past - Jesus had said, “This night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’” He was quoting from Zechariah 13:7.

Zechariah 13:8 which says, “’In the whole land,’ declares the Lord, ‘two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it.” is, in my belief, the faithful remnant that listened to Jesus' instruction to "flee to the mountains". Luke 21:20-21, it says, When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. Matthew Henry agrees with this interpretation when he writes, “When Jerusalem and Judea were destroyed, all the Christians in that country, having among them the warning Christ gave them to flee to the mountains, shifted for their own safety, and were sheltered in a city called Pella, on the other side Jordan. We have here first the trials and then the triumphs of the Christian church, and of all the faithful members of it.” (p. 1467 – Matthew Henry’s Commentary – Zechariah)

You don't believe the whole land mourned when Jerusalem was destroyed? Have you read about those revolts? In case you're interested, here is one source:

The Revolt Begins
In AD 66, a Gentile in Caesarea offered a pagan sacrifice next to the synagogue's entrance on the Sabbath. Jewish citizens protested, so Jerusalem authorities ended all foreign sacrifices in the temple, including those to Caesar.

Governor Florus, who lived in Caesarea, then raided the temple treasury in Jerusalem. When people began to protest, Florus unleashed his troops on innocent civilians. More than 3,500 people were killed, including women and children. Hundreds of women were raped, whipped, and crucified.

In response to all of this, Jewish mobs drove the outnumbered Roman soldiers out of Jerusalem, stormed the Antonia (the Roman fort), and burned records of debts kept there. Jewish Zealots surprised the Roman troops at Masada, occupied it, and then distributed its weapons to the Jews.

The Violence Escalates
When Gentiles in Caesarea learned about the violence against fellow Romans in Jerusalem, they killed about twenty thousand Jews within a day's time. Fifty thousand Jews were killed in Alexandria, and the slaughter of more Jewish people escalated throughout the empire.

Gallus, the governor of Syria, and Nero made advances on Jerusalem, Galilee, Sepphoris, Jotapa, Gamla, and other towns, hoping to put an end to the Jewish problem. Many Jewish men were executed, often by crucifixion; Jewish women and children were sold into slavery or saved for games in the arena.

In AD 70, Titus arrived in Jerusalem with at least eighty thousand troops. He captured half the city, slaughtered its inhabitants, and built a siege wall around the remaining part of the city.

Trapped inside, the different Jewish groups fought one another. People killed each other for scraps of food, and anyone who was suspected of considering surrender was killed. Six hundred thousand bodies were thrown out of the city as a result of the famine. ~ Jewish Revolts

Hi mkgal,

The reason they mourned was different. In Zech. 12: 10 they are mourning as one mourns for his only son.

True Israel = "the people of God"

ALL followers of Christ - in some way - "say" that.

But.....if you'd like a few specific proclamations.....

John 20:28 ~ Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!”

Matthew 16:13-20 New Life Version (NLV)
Peter Says Jesus Is the Christ
13 Jesus came into the country of Caesarea Philippi. He asked His followers, “Who do people say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 They said, “Some say You are John the Baptist and some say Elijah and others say Jeremiah or one of the early preachers.”

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd Acts 2:14-41
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

National Israel is cursed forever ! (2)

National Israel as God's Covenant People is long over ! -

National Israel's rejection and curse is final..

The end of the Kingdom of God represented by National Covenant Israel is Illustrated by Jesus here:

Matt 22:
1And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

And here lk 20:
9Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Notice vs 16 He [ God ] shall come and destroy these husbandmen [ National Israel] and shall give the vineyard [ Covenant representation of the Kingdom of God] to others [ the gentile church]..

Matt 21 43
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

The word taken here is the greek word airo: And means:
cause to cease

Jesus Christ death on the cross caused their end as Gods national Covenant People and later the confirmation of that was seen by the armies coming and destroying their worship capital..

So His taking away their privilege, caused it to cease..

Heb 8:
13 In that He says, “A new covenant, ” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away/cease.

The National Covenant of Israel has become obsolete and Has ceased to exist, it has poof, vanished away..

What no cars, buses, planes or boats?
.

Hi LittlelambofJesus,

Glad you noticed such detail. Now had you realised just prior to that, this occurred -

`And there were noises and thunderings; AND THERE WAS A GREAT EARTHQUAKE, such a MIGHTY AND GREAT EARTHQUAKE as had not occurred since men were on the earth. Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the CITIES OF THE NATIONS FELL.` (Rev. 16: 17 - 19)

`and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the moon became like blood, and the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and EVERY NOUNTAIN AND ISLAND was moved out of it place.` (Rev. 6: 12 - 14)

So you think that cars, buses, planes and boats could still operate? Roads would all be destroyed, and civilization as we know it would be destroyed also.

Still can't see 1st century Jerusalem in Revelation huh?
So be it.............

Can you offer an opinion on why the smoke of 70ad Jerusalem is going up to the ages of ages?
lI mean there are 4 halleluyahs and an amen. What great City do you know of that would rate such a big cheering section:

Matthew 24:19
“But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those, the days!
Mark 13:17
“But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
Luke 21:
22 “For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days

Luke 23:27
27 Followed yet to Him a vast multitude of the people and of women were. And grieved and wailed over Him.
28 Being turned yet toward them, Jesus said "Daughters of Jerusalem no be lamenting over Me, moreover for yourselves be-lamenting, and upon the children of ye.
[Isaiah 4:4/Reve 18:19]

Revelation 19:
1 After these I hear as a great sound of a vast throng in the heaven, saying,
HalleluYah!
the salvation and the glory and the honor, and the power of our God;
2 That true and righteous His judgings,
that He judges the great harlot who corrupts the earth in Her whoredom,
and avenges<1556> the blood of His bond-servants out of Her hand.
3 And a second time they have declared<4483> ‘HalleluYah!
and Her smoke is ascending into the ages of the ages!"

4 And fall the twenty four Elders and the four living-ones,
and they worship to the GOD the One sitting upon the Throne, saying, ‘Amen! HalleluYah!"
6 And I hear as sound of a throng, much, and as a sound of waters, many, and as sound of thunders, strong saying:"HalleluYah!
that reigns Lord the God *of-us, the Almighty.

Hi LittleLambofJesus,

Not my opinion but what God says, the city of Babylon, (Rev. 18: 2) (which is in Iraq).
