How can you even know that? just saying ...

Is he publishing the names of those he asked? Otherwise there's no reason to believe him. I would just see it as a cash grab since nothing drives book sales quite like "scandal in the Vatican".

80%, really? The claim seems awfully unlikely, given the relatively low percentage of gay people in the general population.

Is the fact they may be gay an issue? Or is it more relevant whether they engage in homosexual sex - Given they are all celibate - perhaps it doesn't matter - or does it.?

It doesn't necessarily vouch for the 80% statistic, but another article about the book, which I found to be quite impressive, speaks well of Martel's credibility. Post about it, with link to article, here.

I'm not a Catholic, and I still don't buy it. That's an absurd number, if so. I'd have to see the details how he arrived at that.

Well yesterday or the day before someone posted an article on children of priests, and another article on priests having sex with nuns... so there is a large enough population of staight.

Sad state of affairs. No pun intended.

An 80% figure seems very high. All I know is that I saw some kind of television report in the past year or so that dealt with the subject. They gave no figures, but did emphasize that there were gay priests in the Vatican.

By active you mean engaging in sex? You see - as I see it, its not your sexuality thats the issue; its whether you are celibate or not. As I understand it, heterosexual priests would be equally offending their vows if they engaged in sexual activity.
