Wonder if Texans will do the same over Trump’s land grab.
Good, people shouldn't be messing with Chicago parks. We like them just the way they are.
tulc(maybe they can take down Trump Tower and make the library there instead?)
Last summer I was in DC, and the line to see Obama's portrait was out the door. If the library attracts lines like that during peak season, it will be an economic boon to the city. At the same time, it will definitely drive displacement. Most of the residents of the neighborhood rent. I can definitely see why they are concerned about being priced out.Chicago has a longstanding issue with construction projects and diversity. I'd be surprised if 10% of all hires are minorities and I'm being generous. The $1 lots are usually given to projects that reinvest in the community. Like urban farms.
I wonder how many lawsuits are going to come out to try and stop Trump's future presidential library from being built.
Sure, as long as it's on Mexico's side. The Trump Wall streaming 4 years of tweets will suffice.
Maybe he can have it built here in LA instead? We just recently dedicated a stretch of freeway to President Obama near Occidental College where he attended. They're talking about building it not far from Science and Industry. It's already a nightmare trying to find parking in that area.
tulc(knows it's close to where President Obama taught but still, there's a lot already in that area)
...how would a library/museum disturb a neighborhood?
tulc(honestly doesn't see it)

Certainly it will. But that doesn't mean everybody will like it. There's always winners and losers when it comes to urban redevelopment.Redevelopment is taking place in the southern part of the city. I'm uncertain if it's reached that area yet but I'm aware other neighborhoods are being revived. I expect the demographic will change in time.

That's easy to say. It's harder to accept when you are the one being forced to move out of your home and neighborhood. Especially if you have lived there many years and it has become part of your identity.I would not expect an area within the proximity of the lakefront and a 9-hole golf course to remain as is. It's an affordable alternative to residences the same distance in the opposite direction.
