How do they rationalize it?
by understanding that comprehensive Immigration Reform and Enforcement is not the same thing as using tax-payer dollars to build yet another Trump Tower.

Wrong. The border wall is meant to prevent illegal immigration. Personally, I wouldn't mind spending 100 billion dollars on it, so long as it gets built.

Wrong. Trump has spent a lifetime building phallic monuments with his name on top. This one is no different, except he intends to use tax-payer money.

Further, your question in the OP was how do opponents rationalize it - not how do YOU rationalize your support of it.

Most people with an opinion on this issue don't know anything about immigration, the southern border, what kinds of security is effective or ineffective. It's simply a place to plant a flag. Pundits and politicians from both sides have provided the talking points that can easily be latched onto.

Personally I don't take a position on the issue because I know nothing about illegal Mexican immigration to the US. And unless you live on the border, work in border security, or have done some scholarly research on these issues I'm willing to bet that you don't either.

The OP doesn't give any reason for anyone to be in favor of a border wall. It is simply a question.

For starters, a border wall would be an environmental disaster. It stops the natural movement of animals that have been moving over this land unimpeded for hundreds of thousands of years.

A border wall would only make sense if you believe that almost all illegal immigrants come from Mexico, or come through Mexico. This isn't true, Mexico is only part of the problem.

When I was in college, it was a known fact that many of the students were foreign students. They were in the country on temporary visas, yet it was known fact that very few of them would ever leave. They have told me as much themselves.

Most illegals come to the US on a plane and overstay their visas. A wall doesn't stop that.

US immigration law is also overly friendly to immigrants who want to bring their family, clam and tribe over. Once a handful of immigrants from any particular country arrive, they can bring more. This is one of the ways that US law on immigration may serve immigrants but it doesn't serve America. But a wall won't stop this.

Who were the previous border wall projects phallic monuments to? Obama and Bush?

I don't need to rationalize anything. I know the wall must be built to keep out the illegals.

Nice word play, but you're still wrong. The wall needs to be built to secure our borders.

Well thanks but you're still wrong. Folks need to pull their heads out & actually look at what needs to be done to secure our borders. Donald's wall isn't it. What Donald has done is create a huge distraction.
I have to ask, do you sincerely believe Donald cares about border security? Do you realize how much risk he caused to us on account of his longest shutdown in gov. history? To me, he proved then & there he didn't give a diddly dang about border security, that the wall is all about his vanity.

How did you learn so much about border issues, if you don't mind me asking?
