I reject the initial definition, so it's unconvincing.

It's also incredibly circular as an argument.

1) You should accept that God is love
2) Because Thomas Aquinas said so
3) Because he's an authority
4) He's trustworthy because God is love

Then it's good that there is no Authority in science, which stops people taking someone's word for something and instead rely on the evidence, the only way to get closer to the truth.
