Over sixty million residents of the USA are foreign-born. We take in more immigrants than any other country on Earth as it is.

Approximately half the world would like to come to the USA to live, and thousands actually do it each day, so with each illegal costing us tens of thousands of dollars, why wouldn't illegal immigration constitute an emergency?

It is a humanitarian emergency at the border, not a national one.

if he was serous about it, he would address the biggest way people get in illegally, expired Visas.

this is just a dog and pony show for his base.

So its an INTERnational emergency. I guess we could say that, although most of the countries in the world do not have a problem of a large number of illegal immigrants..

As a nation built on immigration, how are they a problem? Statistically, they don't do more crime, they pay taxes, they integrate into the area they are in and help. And they are not the big burden they are claimed to be.

what are you so afraid of?

The silly part in all of this is how proudly many Trump voters will flaunt their heritage, going as far as claiming to be 'Italian', 'Irish' or 'Polish' etc.

If you aren't born there you aren't any of those things, but anyway, the fact so many people flaunt their heritage without a sense of irony is quite funny.

It's "illegal" immigration that people are concerned about. Not immigration. I'm a child of immigration myself. But don't equate my family with breaking laws.

If you want the laws changed, simply change those. Otherwise, society can't function without any clear procedure and path to citizenship (and all of the further administration that entails).

the question still is, since illegal immigrants do all the things I listed, what are you afraid of?

I agree that there needs to be better handling of path to citizenship and handling of claims of asylum at the border. Instead, we get a wall that doesn't solve any of these issues.

My two previous posts dealt with that.

Statistically, they don't do more crime...
Actually, they do. However, crime is merely one part of the overall issue.

Everyone flaunts their heritage....singling out Trump voters that do it is showing what your intent for this statement is all about.

I'm not afraid of anything. And I didn't even vote for Trump btw. I'm not your preconfigured punching bag. I just thought your post was misleading. You created a position for people that they were afraid of "immigration", when they talk about "illegal immigration" instead. These aren't the same thing.

And if I was personally afraid, I wouldn't tell you to simply "change the laws".

Besides, HERITAGE is not the issue here.

Yes, most people feel pride in their ethnic heritage, but how many people brag about their ancestors coming into the country illegally? Not many.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

However, I do find many people claiming to be afraid of illegal immigration are really afraid immigrants in general. Sorry to lump you with them.

with each illegal costing us tens of thousands of dollars, why wouldn't illegal immigration constitute an emergency?
So, if we multiply the tens of thousands by how many illegals come in, how many billions would this make, which could be spent for the wall?

It is a humanitarian emergency at the border, not a national one.
Or, somehow . . . more or less . . . it is an emergency. If you lose your car keys, it's an emergency if you need to get to work, right?

So, sure it's an emergency, but in what way and how much, really?

How much will Americans pay if no illegals work? And then Americans will be required to be paid right, with medical benefits, and this will pass on to how much people pay for food and other things. Plus, if Americans do the work which Chinese laborers are doing to manufacture things Americans use > how much more will Americans pay for things they use?

There is a money motive which will effect how effective people are about changing who will do the work and how much it will cost.

No prob. :) I kind of jumped in at random anyways.. I probably shouldn't expect my position to be clear.

No doubt there are some who are simply afraid of immigration on it's own, but I don't think that's the case for all of them. I think a lot of Republicans are probably just sticklers for procedure ("Lawful" types in D&D terms heh). I think Dems used to be somewhat. Just several years ago, even Obama stood for order too. A lot of the drama right now just seems like a game to me, when I look at this. It's like Trump polarizes everyone into positions they never even had before.

Yep and yep.

There is no emergency at the border. Apprehensions have been steadily dropping...since 2000:
There Is No Border Crisis

The "bound and gagged women" line is a lie:
Trump’s tales about gagged women are misleading Americans about human trafficking, experts say | The Star

Crime was already dropping in El Paso before their wall/gate:
No, border barrier did not bring down crime in El Paso

Even border agents don't want the wall:
Retiring Border Chief Calls Trump's Wall a Waste of Time, Money

and

What Border Agents Say They Want (It’s Not a Wall)

The American people don't want the wall:
Trump Keeps Doubling Down On The Same Failed Strategy

There is no "crisis", and there is no need for a wall.

It's the opposite -- they give more than they get.

But...even if that were not so, I'll still not risk the "second death" by refusing to welcome one of my brothers or sisters from another land.

I don't think he can. He should, if he is interested in fixing the crisis he is claiming. But he has shown no inkling in even thinking that way.

Which is odd, since that is something both parties could get behind. And would be a win for him. But he is stuck on this wall.
