Oh Lord that is horrible! Do we seriously still have people that view black is in that way? Its 2019 for crying out loud!

He said that this happened *decades* ago, and that reality hitting him hard about it was a turning point in his development.

“People are afraid to admit they had a racist thought because then society says ‘You’re racist forever, and that’s it,’ " Noah said, “so there’s no value in atoning.”

if we want to win the war on Racists and Racism, then we as a people on all sides of the color spectrum must be willing to not only forgive but to applaud honesty, remorse, and evolution from being racist to becoming non-racist...

We need to encourage admissions of past racism and be accepting and forgiving when people have "changed". Otherwise, you incentivize racists and racism to stay in the closet, behind closed doors, or bury those feelings deep inside themselves with no hope of ever seeing the light of truth...

I chalk this up to another episode of thinking Twitter speaks for the populace. I think the most criticism I have heard was his choice of venue to air the subject (i.e., to promote a movie about vengeance).

In terms of actual anger over his thoughts, they were horrible thoughts, not actions. I am sure everyone has a moment of weakness where they have a truly evil thought process. If anything, the more constructive thing would be to understand where those dark thoughts emerge, as they likely reflect a psychosocial interaction. If it were a white rapist, I am sure his thoughts wouldn't go to the same place.

He said they would have.

If it were a white rapist, then bearing in mind where he was, then the question would be was it a Protestant or a Catholic?

Bearing in mind the most recent (and hopefully final) round of sectarian violence where he was lasted about thirty years and killed about three and a half thousand people (mostly uninvolved bystanders), who'd notice one more person with murderous intent?

If that were the case, then it wouldn't be racial. Yes, it's a religious generalization, but that is not viscerally looking at skin color and attacking. Maybe you'd pay attention to style of clothes or walk around a specific area of a city with expectations of coming across a Catholic or Protestant; however, their religion is not an outward appearance like ethnicity or skin color.

The latter would be so painfully simple that I could've pointed them out on a streetmap at that time, despite living on a different island and being in primary school. The high-IQ types in the government thought the best way to stop the two sides killing each other was to build whopping great walls between neighbourhoods (these finished up being up to 25 feet tall and 3 miles long).

Besides which it seemed that the majority of the [REDACTED]s on either side of their little sectarian war weren't overly concerned with making sure that no-one of their sect (or noncombatants) was in the blast radius.

He described racial hatred based on gut-level tribalism that he had to get over. My pastor, who is black, had similar feelings in his younger days after he watched Roots (IIRC - it may have been a different story on black history), except his target would have been a white person. Thanks be to the Lord, the Spirit moved him far away from that. I'm not going to fault Neeson for recognizing how ugly that was, and moving past it.

Liam Neeson started a vital debate. To condemn him is to end it | John Barnes
Liam Neeson’s interview shows that for some, black people are still not fully human | Gary Younge

At least nobody’s talking about it in the discussion debate forum. Clearly a Liam was a lot more frank than the interviewer expected. Was this just a shock way of gaining publicity for his new film?
It seems like this stuff is happening everyday. The me too movements, shooting and some form of racism. I'm getting very numb to it.

If it was publicity, it massively backfired.

I respect his honesty though - he has also touched on an area of his life he isn't proud off. It's commendable really that he's moved on from this stage of his life.

I think he was just being honest and regretted it. I don't understand how he got so slammed for it and kept popping up in my headlines, as if it was a "current" crime. I'd warn all (Christians) here to not be too harsh on what seems like a repentant man. It's not our sins that we will ultimately be judged by in the end, but our ability to recognize our own sins and being merciful. "The measure you use will be measured back to you." [Luke 6:38]
