Many Muslims like to trap Christians by asking if Jesus is the son of God where in the bible does he say that? Is Matt 4:7 the best verse to answer that? The word "God" in verse 7, is it in reference to Jesus or to the Father? If it's to Jesus we have a clear winner. Your thoughts?

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

That verse means that if Jesus were to do what the devil is telling him to do in verse 6, he (Jesus) would be tempting God. It must be taken in context with the rest of the passage.

I use;
“Now I desire to remind you (even though you have been fully informed of these facts once for all) that Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, later destroyed those who did not believe.” (Jude 5) (NET)

And; “and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4)

Mark 14

60And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”g 61But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” 62And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

Actually, there are a flock of relevant verses--relevant, that is, because they come from Jesus himself rather than being what someone else says about him (in Scripture).

In addition to him using the divine name for himself, he claimed powers and authority that only God can have, and in case those facts are doubted, we need to remember that the Jewish leaders accused him of blasphemy for some of these claims or utterances, and they would know better than whatever Muslim is questioning you.

I think that is not Jesus saying he is God. It was said to Jesus, that if he does it, God protects him, and Jesus answered that God should not be tempted by doing harmful things and then hoping that God protects. Same is with us, we should not do harmful things just to show that God protects.

Got to remember that Jesus walked as a man and not God when he was on the Earth. After he was baptized with the Spirit he operated as a man led by the Spirit.

I like Luke 1:35 and John 20:31

Luke 1:35
And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.

John 20:31
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Matthew 3:17
and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."

Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1 John 4:10
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

John 14:13
"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 5:19
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

John 5:26
"For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

Mark 14:61
But He kept silent and did not answer Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

Mark 5:7
and shouting with a loud voice, he said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!"

Luke 8:28
Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me."

Acts 13:33
that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, 'YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.'

Hebrews 5:5
So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU";

Mark 9:7
Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!"

Luke 3:22
and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

2 Peter 1:17
For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"--

Luke 9:35
Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!"

Romans 1:4
who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Matthew 2:15
He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: "OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON."

Hebrews 1:8
But of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.

1 John 5:9
If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son.

1 John 5:10
The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.

No Jesus was the one being tempted of the devil as the first few verses imply. The devil wanted Jesus to act in pride and self glory and to take direction from him.

Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. So the devil was trying to tempt the flesh part but by doing this he was trying to tempt God. The devil would say to Jesus “if thou be the Son of God” why do you suppose he asked this?

I see this section a good verse to show that Jesus was God being tempted of the devil .

Read again

“ Luke 4 - 1. And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.”

The devil was tempting Jesus and Jesus is God

I guess that's your prerogative if you choose to interpret it like that.
