I read the article, and it seemed that Dr. Soh was describing a gene which correlates to higher levels of separation anxiety which have found among homosexuals in three different disparate populations -- not claiming that said correlation is a genetic cause of homosexuality.

A fine distinction, perhaps, but as they say, correlation does not equal causation. I would be very surprised if any article would come out claiming homosexuality to be genetic in that way, as that would make it diagnosable (rather than just predictable) via genetic testing, which would validate the "born this way" idea, but at the cost of essentially making it curable, which in effect is admitting that it is a kind of disease, and then all the gay pride stuff would be akin to having a "Lupus Pride Month" or "Irritable Bowl Syndrome Pride Parade" or something...those would be understandably much less popular and much less filled with social capital than the current gay pride stuff.

I also found this interesting which indicates a relationship between the xq28 and homosexuality. I like the dot gov articles: Linkage between sexual orientation and chromosome Xq28 in males but not in females. - PubMed - NCBI

[edit] sorry I should have said, that the dot gov site indicates that only male gay were found to be affected by the xq28 area, not females that were lesbian

Who knows? It's possible that God is masterminding this so that someone in the Canadian system might come to know Jesus.

In our small group study on Sunday we were discussing Joseph. The son of Israel who was taken into Egypt by a caravan of traders after buying him from his own brothers. We, of course, started at the beginning of Joseph's travails. Joseph becomes despised by his brothers because he brags to them about visions he has foretelling that in the future his family would bow down to him. Then his brothers concoct a plan whereby Joseph is sold into slavery and carried down to Egypt. After a period Joseph is accused by his master's wife of molesting her and thrown into prison. In prison he gives wisdom and understanding to the baker and king's courtier concerning dreams that they have. Which brings up his name to Pharaoh when he likewise has a disturbing dream. Which established Joseph as the second in command over all of Egypt in order that his family might be saved from a terrible famine and drought.

Then we went back to the beginning. After Joseph had his initial dream that started all of the animosity between him and his brothers, was not God's hand the one that brought about all of his other calamities? Was it not God's purpose that Joseph would be hated by his brothers so that he would be sold into Egypt; so that he would be a slave in Potiphar's household; so that he would be accused of molesting; so that he would be in prison to speak to the baker and the king's courtier; so that his name would come up to Pharaoh; so that he would be made second in command over all of Egypt; so that he would be at that place to save his family when that event occurred?

Likewise, is there any possibility that this trial that these prospective parents are going through comes from the hand of God. God's word tells us to rejoice in our trials in order that God may be glorified. There are at least a dozen various pieces of Scripture that encourage us to understand that tribulation and trials bring patience and endurance to the believer. So, while I understand that the OP's article is certainly newsworthy to the believer, I don't think our response should be to vilify those involved, but to understand that these are the things that we need to appeal to God through our prayers that in such trial and tribulation, we might glorify Him. That we trust in Him that He will do what is right upon the earth. That we should use such trial and tribulation to build up our endurance and perseverance.

I know, it's harder than it sounds and I'm certainly no poster child for following such advice, but I think it's the course we should be taking...according to God's word. Praying for our persecutors and doing good unto them who do evil. Not returning evil for evil.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

The vast majority of Christians do believe that there are "outdated" parts of the Bible.

Ezekiel 20:25 says the God have the Israelites "bad commands" because of their disobedience in the wilderness of Egypt.

Jesus says that all foods clean.

Except Jesus Himself declared that law null and void because it was fulfilled in Christ thus making all things clean. There were no bad commandments otherwise Jesus would have not fulfilled them.

The difference is homosexuality is a SIN and not the OT Judaism laws.

Honestly, it’s their prerogative to deny an application if they feel like that family isn’t a good match for a majority of those who need fostering. It’s not a reflection on the family rejected, just the dynamic of people who utilize the system and the diverse backgrounds they come from. Lots of these kids come from non-Christian backgrounds, may be struggling privately with gender identity or orientation, abuse, neglect, sexual activity, drug and alcohol addiction, teen pregnancy, abortion... And everything in between. A lot of these kids have an entire parade of issues that they never disclose to social workers, but they do unfold and unpack during the process after placement, with therapy, once they set roots and trust the family they’re with.

They can’t worry if they paired a kid with non-conforming gender identity concerns that they didn’t disclose with a family that goes to church that teaches homosexual conversion. They can’t wonder if a girl who aborted a child conceived through prostitution is paired with a family who will make her feel judged, either directly or indirectly.

That isn’t a reflection on the people applying and if they’re good or bad people or if their values are good or bad... Last I checked, only 10% of people who apply get accepted to foster. That’s not because 90% of the world stink as parents... It’s because these kids need a special kind of help, a special type of support, and have a special set of concerns and not everybody is suited to meet their needs. I have three kids, I love being a mom, but there’s no way I think I would be a good foster parent. Were I to apply, I’m sure we’d be rejected. That doesn’t mean I’m a bad parent or person, or means these kids need help and flexibility and support that is so specific that I can’t help them effectively.

From my days in law enforcement and medical intervention, placement parents were called “blank slates.” That’s what they needed to be.

If the teenage girl who’s raped by her stepfather comes to the ER and it’s 3am and they need a placement after emergency family removal, you need that family who gets the call at 3am and shows up at 3:30am to get her and showed support before she even knew she was entering the system, not the family who comes to get her and is slightly concerned that she had goth hair and makeup, a Satanist tattoo, and will unintentionally make her feel awful about herself and the secret abortion she had as they take her to church to hear about the virtues of chastity and the evils of abortion. Foster care is child-focused, so no matter how great that second family is or how open and loving and non-judgmental they are, that girl won’t feel safe there and thus, they aren’t a match.

So many people go in and want to “save” these kids. With that mentality, I’m sorry, one just isn’t a match for being a foster parent. Your job isn’t to save them, rehabilitate them, convert them, or “show them the way.” It’s to be there for them in the way they need you to be there for them.

Is the concern that if a queer child is placed with them, they may not support that child adequately?

I don't really get it.

I think that is it; because I know the whole gender identity thing is now being pushed in some areas and schools in grade school so orientation is sort of right next door to that issue so to speak.

A Canadian human rights law firm is accusing a government adoption agency of discriminating against a Christian couple who wanted to become foster parents.

According to the letter, the couple submitted an application in November 2017 to become foster parents. In the week of April 30-May 4 of last year, they met with a Child Services social worker.

The social worker asked the couple, one of whom is a pastor, if they “still” believe “in some of the more outdated parts of the Bible” and if they considered homosexuality a sin.

Last October, the couple received a letter from Child Services declining their application, stating that “the policies of our agency do not appear to fit with your values and beliefs.”

Not good, but also we should recognize the Tower of Babel happening there too. The non believers have only a vague and usually wrong impression, and are reacting to what they think is in the Bible (or in a church, etc.), which isn't precisely (or can be quite far really from) what is. For example, the Bible instructs us that certain actions are sins, but doesn't say a mere temperament is, and that clear distinction isn't know among non believers, who simply have a wrong impression.

Remember WHO the enemy is...granted some do and are then in full agreement with the enemy lol. Time to rejoice. Where sin is.. there is much grace. And for that pastor.. God will make a way where this is NONE! Nothing YOUR Father cant do.

Hmm how to say this.. NOT good with words. KNOW who you are Whos you are. Your Father? GOD will NEVER unless we say nothing to Him.. allow the WORLD the enemy to walk all over you. There never is a "free pass" so to speak for hurting in ANYWAY the RIGHTOUS.. YOU! I mean when it comes to things like this. Gods word is TRUE. That pastor stood for that.. anyway.. its AWESOME!

I have seen and heard of SO many stories where the enemy tired to do wrong things against a believer.. your Father is JUST... and I am not talking.. God now comes alone and smacks them in face lol..kind of thing. When you STAND for your Father and HIS WORD..what IS written. Is when you will SEE your Father ALWAYS come to your rescue. And even when your not watching.. or weak in the faith.

As a parent.. how do you feel if others hurt your kids? AMP it.. as far as it can to.. cant come close to how your Father feels about YOU! The key is.. you have to KNOW this.. believe it. He will NEVER go against what you believe.

Thanks for posting this..if I offended anyone for give me

It's about how you respond to it, though. If you're going to send a minor off to conversion therapy boot camp or something, I can see why the authorities would have an issue (which is different to having a belief that particular behaviour is sinful, in itself).
The case appears to take place in Ontario. Ontario banned conversion therapy already. I'm therefore not seeing that as a legitimate concern.

I hope that no one who was OK with the publicly funded foster agency discriminating against Jews and non-Christians (on another thread) isn’t railing against the state discriminating against certain Christian beliefs on this thread....

Sometimes I wonder what you're doing on a Christian forum.

I’m not sure how this is a reply to my post. The people on the other thread were defending the foster agency’s right to discriminate against Catholics and Jews. The same right would seem to apply here.

I have learned on this site that some people who lean right politically aren't always consistent in their position on certain moral and political issues, such as pointing a judgmental finger at homosexuals when they support a twice divorced admitted adulterous philander after spending years condemning Bill Clinton for being an adulterous philander or pointing a judgmental finger at a liberal politician for lying when they support Trump, who is well known and well documented for his habitual lying habit or ranting on and on about liberal celebrities making political statements about Trump, but then praising and defending a conservative singer for wearing a pro-Trump jacket at the Grammy Awards.

Wow. "Outdated" parts of the Bible? Seriously? God hasn't changed His standards at all.

Isaiah 40:8:
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

I just heard on TV, while listening to some talk show, that Pew Research found that 72 percent of PASTORS no longer believe the Bible. Good Lord. Apostasy is rising.

I know fundamentalist Christians are adamantly against homosexuality. There is a thread in the Fundamentalist Christian faith sub-forum where this belief is strongly discussed. As far as what is defined as a fundamentalist, here is the Fundamentalist Christians Statement of Purpose. I'm thinking I should have included evangelical Christians based on my own personal experiences being raised in that kind of household and what I've witnessed firsthand during the course of my lifetime. I'll just say that I've very leery of both of these sects of Christianity because of my own life experiences.

No. Christians (full stop) do what the Lord says, and abide by His Word (which includes all of scripture, not just the "love" parts). And when they fall - and they do - they repent. He said, "If you love me, you will do what I say". Jesus does not stand in opposition to what God has already established as moral law. Sexual immorality is immoral, at any time, in any place. Anyone who teaches otherwise is a hireling (or even possibly a wolf), and not a shepherd.

Suffice it to say that immorality is any sexual behavior outside God's standard of one husband and one wife under God for life.

The Lord DOES and will forgive and DOES say (when we repent), Neither will I condemn you; (BUT ALSO SAYS) go and sin no more."

I looked at the Pew website and could not find this data. I would be interested to see it if you have a link.

That's very unscientific in my opinion. It would seem that scientists have located the homosexual gene, it's the Xq28 region of the X chromosome: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/cross-cultural-evidence-for-the-genetics-of-homosexuality/

If scientists are correct, then homosexuality is a mutation of that genome region and more of a disorder like cystic fibrosis or other mutations. It's a disease in other words.
There's no genetic cause found. There is mere speculation that: "common genetic factors underlie same-sex, sexual preference in men" There is some speculation with intentional dissembling about the cause. Chicken or egg? Are they this way because of what they have been through?

"The research points to childhood separation anxiety as a culturally universal correlate of androphilia in men. This has important implications for our understanding of children’s mental health conditions because subclinical levels of separation anxiety, when intertwined with male androphilia, may represent a typical part of the developmental life course."

Childhood trauma (or possibly molestation) leading to these effects? Maybe: On top of these observations, studies in molecular genetics have shown that Xq28, a region located at the tip of the X chromosome, is involved in both the expression of anxiety and male androphilia. This work suggests that common genetic factors may underlie the expression of both. Twin studies additionally point to genetic explanations as the underlying force for same-sex partner preference in men and neuroticism, a personality trait that is comparable to anxiety.
