Hi Coleton, thanks so much for the reply!

I'm used to more paragraph roleplaying, I'm not as familiar with tabletop or turn based systems with statistics. I guess it's more for the narrative and story for me in 3rd person. I think a slice of life would be great, though I'm happy in any genre and do not have to kill of major characters.

However, I am very willing to learn any system that is more comfortable to my RP partners. You don't have to believe in a pre-trib rapture, I'm happy to move it to any portion of the RP. I like the idea of the world building and background setting, though I would love to know the exact end time scenario my friend would be working off of so I could get the right 'chart' and the right specifications.

Also, I'm all for anyone being invited to RP as I'm the newbie here. :) Basically, I want to RP wholesome family and friendship situations. I can do Slice of Life or adventures or both. This doesn't mean we don't have difficult situations characters face, but definitely it would be at the PG level.

I like emotions; anger; angst; love; appreciation; character dialogue and development. I can give you a sample of some of my work or do any writing prompts.

As far as Slice of Life, I'm not sure exactly what I would like. Faith building elements, strong friendship, maybe somewhat adventure?

My name is Peter James by the way, I'm happy to meet you.

Nice to meet you too. As for RP styles Paragraph would work, but I mostly do play by post, where one person posts and waits for the next person before replying, that way everyone is up to speed all the time. I would definitely love to try a Slice of Life, as it would be my first RP of that genre.

Do you have any ideas on the foundation of the RP? Maybe a highschool or University Setting? It was your idea, so let us formulate it together with you being the lead on it. Here's your Homework:

"Find out what you truly desire to write, and tell me about all of it, and we'll make it into our RP. It could be Slice of Life with some Adventure or whatever you want to write and share with others, and I'll be part of it. Because if it's what you truly want to write and it is your passion, then as long as you put your all heart into it, you should be okay."

Basically write a Story and make it into the RP. I'll go along with what you want.

Do your homework and check back here when done.

First of all, thank you so much for the opportunity to explain further.

I have really thought and prayed on it. I have done medieval fantasies before, so I’m not opposed to it and actually quite enjoy it.

I know for sure I’d like to explore true friendships in RPs, maybe siblingship (same or opposite genders), emotional content, and adventures. I am only afraid that a Slice of Life could become stale real quick without any conflict or things occurring.

This is my opinion on two possible scenarios I would like to play out:

#1) Slice of Life (maybe modern day, I don’t know – the two tend to blend for me) – A college student who is struggling with school, struggling with online addiction (can be kept generic so as not to be trigger for anyone else), and struggling to forge meaningful friendship (again same or opposite genders). He is invited to go out to a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting (or maybe just merely a chapel service at an already Christian university, very flexible.)

He gets saved; but because he is a loner, he finds it a little difficult adjusting to being saved and he tends to go back to his old ways. I’d like one of his new brothers or sisters in Christ to catch him doing something ungodly and let the story progress from there – obviously in a positive direction.

#2) Fantasy, Medieval – I’d like to do a roleplay where long lost siblings reunite and go on an adventure. I have really only one idea for this genre, and this is with an already established character that I have named Teo, the Elf. Teo, the Elf, lives in an Elfin land with a Queen. He is a lowly loner woods dweller; every year, the realm has a tournament to see if any of the ‘common’ folk would be fit as squire for the Queen and eventual advancement into the castle.

My character would win the tournament (of course, after some difficulties) and meet the said queen who turns out to be his sister. The story progresses from there with anticipation in the realization and then story afterwards about how/if they get along and what is Teo’s future in the realm.

PROBLEM: The problem I see in either of these scenarios is that it’s “Peter” focused if you understand; it’s a story revolving around *my* character, so of course I would love it to also focus on other partners and other characters. So, I am totally flexible in either 1 x 1 or a group setting. As I stated before, my main purpose is to forge new RP friendships both IC and OOC that build us up together in Christ and where ultimately He is exalted.

What do you think, which would you like to do? From there, I can write a story for you so you can get a sense of my writing skills. :)

I see. I think I've gotten somewhat of a feel on your genre type. Good, now we can take option 1, and make it everyone's. For a successful RP, everyone needs to feel like they are contributing. It needs to be all for one, and one for all, so to speak.

Meaning that the RP's foundation needs to be well built, and that the story is something that everyone can enjoy.

For now, write the story to option one, as you see fit, and then revise it to make it appealing to a specific audience, we want everyone to join us, but honestly speaking only those who like where the story is heading and its potential will be interested. The more the merrier. Also, you seem like you are a very effective writer. I would like some advice on how to write an overpowered character in a Short Story Series, if you have any advice you'd be willing to share.

New Christians at Lakeside Bible College ...
-------------------------------------------------

“Dorm Devos”, “New Testament Survey”, “Chapel” - all these terms held new meaning for Mio since he was saved at Tuesday’s chapel service. This was his first year of college; he had planned on fulfilling his one year promise to his parents before transferring to a non Christian college.

But his heart was so pricked on the beauties of Christ and the ugliness of his sins. The Pastor who came in to speak was gentle, softspoken, and warm. Yet his words were convicting and challenging. A fellow student prayed with him and led him to the Lord; before, she was just another crazy Jesus freak. Now, he was rejoicing with her and seeing a new inner beauty that he had not seen before.

Mio couldn’t understand all the feelings inside of him tonight; both men and women’s dorm room met for devotionals tonight. The choruses on the guitar enflamed his heart more; he wanted to cry then and there, but chose not to. He still struggled; he thought coming to Jesus meant struggles and addictions would go away. But there was more to it than that; it meant that He was available through those difficult times.

He still felt a little out of place; his parents only recently got saved themselves and they were rejoicing with him on the phone when he called them with the good news. He had not grown up in a “Christian” environment. Looking around, his heart was mixed. It had a new love inside of it that had never been there before, but also shame that he was not yet perfect. Maybe his upcoming baptism would change all of that; maybe the soberness of the seriousness of being a follower of Jesus would hit him like a ton of bricks and he would finally be as spiritual as all the friends around him.

***********

This is an introductory RP; Mio’s character is certainly not meant to be the central character, but one of many rich characters at Lakeside Bible College. I have based the concept of Christians coming together to help each other grow based on this skit.

As humorous as it is, it shows the various characters that God might send to help us “pick up our cross”. It would be my joy to RP with any other partners willing to do this college RP. The last line is meant to be the opener to other characters; the fact that Mio simply believes he is not as good as other Christians when in fact, maybe, all Christians have inadequacies and think they are not as good as others.

Perhaps people who would be interested in this type of RP would be those who wish to have 'new Christian' characters mixed with experienced Christian characters. Perhaps you would try your hand at being the 'Pastor'. It is geared to a general audience, to show Christian friends who grow in grace together and who battle life's challenges together.

I hope this small sample would be a blessing to you. :)

Hi Coleton; thank you for your confidence in me. I am praying for you, I know you said sometimes you struggle with pain with your eyes. You also like writing? I have not written extensively, but on my things to do list is to finish a young adult's novelette called 'Memory of the Egg' which is a science fiction, emotional, adventure book with two siblings, Tamara and Ryan.

What do you mean 'overpowered character'? Do you mean one who is living in constant defeat? Such a character vacillates on different days between victory and defeat and he normally struggles with Bible study and Scripture memorization. Nonetheless, he is always progressing a little bit every day even if he/she doesn't realize it. This character's moods can change quickly from depressed to angry to angry with the world to upset with themselves for being angry to suddenly periods of deep compassion for self and other people and back to uncertainty. This is because a lot of times, whatever they are struggling with (addiction wise anyways) puts them into these cycles. Sometimes, whatever it is they feel overpowered by drives them to God in a deeper way, but other times can be a source of discouragement. Going from mountain top to valley is common, and finding the "even" part of life can be a challenge. Except that all 'overpowered' or 'overwhelmed' people would kill for just feeling normal for once. I don't know if any of that helps and I may have misunderstood your question. :) - Peter James

Yes, that looks perfect. Now we can move on to the foundation.

By Overpowered I mean, the main character has too much power, he's a christian superhero who through Christ has no limits. I was thinking the audience wouldn't be able to relate because no one has that much power IRL. But Never mind, I just got a new Idea for a Novel where the main character is a normal human who loves God, and tries to share the love of God.

What do you mean? What happens next?

Next we build the world, from the story you just wrote. It's a great starter, but we need flesh things out, and give it depth. If we want others to join us, we have to make the world alive. Hence the foundation needs to be built. I learned from a friend, everyone who joins an rp needs to feel like they are contributing. Things like is it play by post, paragraph format, etc, the in depth story behind the college, are there any part time jobs on campus, who will play the professors, or will they be NPCs, every thing you could think of, that will make the college work, and keep our audience entertained. Is there a world beyond the campus? Are there part-time jobs off campus, are there clubs. What is the church on campus like? Stuff like that.

The more indepth we are, the more the world becomes real to the audience, and the more heart and soul we put into it, the more our audience will feel like they belong.

Hi Coleton! Thank you for this information. I have never done world building before, but am willing to give it a shot. I'll start off with a map of the campus, I believe, and work from there building the places and descriptions before deciding exactly what characters might fill each building. Thank you. :)

Once you have everything, and the world is finished, all there is left to do is fill it.
