i noticed a stark difference between the overwhelming applause and jumped my up and down from the Democrats when the President mentioned there are more woman in Congress now than at any other time; and the zero response from Pelosi or seemingly any other Democrat at the mention of the lowest unemployment rate for Hispanics, African Americans and Asians.

This is what the Right does? Carefully log the exact moments and duration of Donald's praise and adulation?

Thoughts on why the Democrats didn’t like the report of good news for minorities?

Who says they didn't?

Where do you live? It can’t be in the US because it’s a fact that they take credit for what good things happen during their administration, and blame the bad on their predecessor.

thats what they do, I'm saying they shouldn't. Love how trump was saying the economy was improving a month or two into his presidency as if he had anything to do with it.

Do you really think that it was any different when the president was Obama?
No. I never said or implied such. I just addressed the OP.

But good whataboutism. :)

We already know it wasn't -- look at what happened to Chris Christie when he dared praise Obama for his assistance in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts...

Threads like this one only further my belief that State of the Union speeches should be done away with. Let's end the political gamesmanship and just go back to the President submitting a report to Congress.

The women applauded the gains for women. Why should they show support for Donald trying to take credit for something he really had nothing to do with?

Lol. Tell us about the great economy under the community organizer.

No they sure as heck don't, the big question is did THEY do it or did someone else do it, probably more in his wheel house now, but trump taking credit for the first year for things caused by Obama and such or blaming one president for anothers failures. to get credit they actually have to have done something to get the credit, if the goverment does something inspite of trump thats not to his credit.

Lol. Obama spent 8 years blaming Bush but now wants to take credit for Trump's successful efforts.

I disagree -- I mentioned in another thread that such political speeches/debates are salvageable, and indeed can be vastly improved with one crucial addition...

Seriously, what aspect of politics wouldn't be improved by the Gong?

That would be off-topic in this thread, but feel free to start a new one on the subject.

The unemployment rates for minorities began falling after Pres. Obama was inaugurated in 2009. And continued to drop throughout his Presidency. Donald Trump might be given some credit for not mucking it up. But he didn't start the trend.

Donald Trump is wholly responsible for Democrats taking control of the House by winning 41 Republican seats. 35 of the new Congresspersons are women elected to their first terms. So for this achievement he should be applauded. By Democrats.

I'm a progressive (or liberal, or whatever, people keep giving me new labels). I like both capitalism and freedom, but I recognize that capitalism isn't the best for all industries and that no freedom is unlimited. I can't, for example, endanger people with speech.

Hello,
Because people tend to be sinful (we are not perfect), I would agree that any system or form are not perfect. However, capitalism stands to be the best system anyone could adopt that promotes a healthier economy and better opportunities for any and all classes of people that wish to grab hold. Sure some have to work harder at it, sure some may fail at it, but it isnt because capitalism is bad that they failed.

Capitalism works side by side with freedom. Have you seen any countries that rule under socialism have free people such as Americans have? I haven't.

Capitalism does work for any and all industries. It is when you involve government, that freedoms then begin to crumble. When government gets this kind of control as we have seen in the past decades until now that you lose your freedoms one by one. Example: the very nature of Obama's healthcare was to charge me a "fine" for NOT having healthcare. What kinda bogus thing is that? If I dont want healthcare, that is my choice as a free citizen and I should not be punished for that.

Progressives are a tagline certain groups of liberals chose for themselves. Maybe to distance themselves for other groups of liberal ideals? I don't recall how it began much. Progressives are inherently still dangerous to freedom and capitalism due to the ideology they hold, and the political spectrum they tend to throw this country toward.

I'll respect their opinions on certain matters even in disagreement, so long as they don't push it upon me or try to bind them as laws on me. And other matters of a moral nature I will fight against tooth and nail (ie abortion issue).

It is nice to know that you still have at least some confidence in capitalism.

I have epilepsy. I literally cannot choose to do without my medicine if I wish to have something approaching a normal life. Even the generic of the medicine I require to not have multiple seizures a week is over 400 dollars a month. I cannot negotiate that price, I cannot find some place offering it cheaper. I have zero power because it is as much a necessity for me as food and water. I am lucky to have insurance through my work that drops this price to an affordable level. Were my company to go under and I lose my insurance, I could find myself without my medicine. I know people with epilepsy who have found themselves in that situation and have trouble getting back into the workforce due to their seizures. How has capitalism aided me?

A universal healthcare system would ensure that I can get my medicine regardless of my work situation. That would aid me and others with chronic illnesses where capitalism says that we only get the medicines if we can afford it.

Obamacare was not socialism. It did not take over the means of production for medicine. It did the opposite. It gave more power to the insurance companies Americans were now forced to contract with.

The difference is instead of you paying for your medicine I would have to pay for it. is that fair?
