I just started reading The God of New Beginnings. It's incredible.

New beginnings are possible, no matter how broken, devastated, or crazy someone’s life may be. Yet today’s churches don’t do messy very well.
The Genesis Project is a network of believers whose goal is to plant churches in dark places, targeting people who don’t normally “do” church. Reaching drug addicts, convicts, strippers, and gang members, they’ve seen God do some amazing things with seemingly hopeless lives. The God of New Beginnings tells these dramatic stories, offering practical wisdom for breaking through the darkness in a person’s life

Does anyone have any recommendations for some books for a young christian woman(or just good books for a Christian in general)?I do not have a particular subject area I am looking for,I love to read, but I have not been able to find any good books lately, and would love some books on Christianity.
I would recommend any of the 'Straight to the heart' series by Phil Moore.

It's hard to make recommendations for someone you don't know, because different authors have somewhat different perspectives on Christianity. I took a look at some of your postings. I think you might like some of the popular works by N T Wright. (He's a scholar, so he also has long and dense technical works. But as a bishop he's interested in helping normal parishoners. Those are the books I'd recommend in the beginning.) Perhaps "Simply Christian," which is intended as a general introduction to Christianity, or if you want to focus on Jesus "Simply Jesus." Wright intends "Simply Christian" as an updated equivalent of C S Lewis "Mere Christianity."

If you're willing to read someone more challenging, Alister Mcgrath's book "Christian Theology: An Introduction" is a text for a semester college course in theology. A briefer version intended for adult Sunday School is "Theology: The Basics." Personally I think someone should have to pass a test on that material before posting in any of the theology groups here...

I'm making these recommendations because I'm assuming from your denominational label that you're interested in traditional Christianity. For a new member in my church (PCUSA) or any other mainline body (Methodist, ELCA, Episcopal, etc) I'd have slightly different recommendations.

I warn you about books in general. There seems to be Satan lurking even in our best Christian authors.
I try to use discernment when choosing books, but I always go and put the Bible as my #1 book for anything.

Some of these are obscure old books and some are kind of like textbooks, but I found all of them to be very engaging in different ways.

For fictional books by Christian authors, in the past I enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis ("Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was my favorite), The Timebenders series by Jim Denney (especially "Invasion of the Time Troopers"), a futuristic book I can't remember the title about a poor Christian man who is put to sleep and made to fight virtual battles (anyone remember this?), the Passages series by Paul McCusker, and A Mouse in Solomon's House by Mack Thomas and Normand Chartier.

Most of those are older and definitely geared toward children, but they were good enough that I have gone back to them occasionally just to enjoy the pictures and stories again.

Oh! I also always that Nova's Ark by David Kirk was fascinating, but that's only loosely based on the Biblical story and I'm not sure if the author is a Christian or not...

The Mantra of Jabez by Douglas M. Jones is another good one I just remembered. It's a play on The Prayer of Jabez and had me cracking up, even though I don't know much about the original book. We need more Christian parodies like that.

Uncle Tom's Cabin.
I haven't read it personally, I've only heard good things.

From what I hear, there is a lot of Christian hints in that book that portrays how a Christian ought to act and believe.

In peace

Pilgrim's Progress - John Bunyan (The 2nd most published book. The Bible is #1 of course. Free to read online at the link provided .. which I also believe happens to be the best edition of the book too)
This, great for children...and adults too. There is a sequel where Pilgrim takes his wife and children as well.
