The Department of Energy revealed on Wednesday that it secretly shipped weapons-grade plutonium from South Carolina to a nuclear security site in Nevada months ago despite the state's protests. The Justice Department notified a federal judge in Reno that the government trucked in the radioactive material to store at the site 70 miles north of Las Vegas before Nevada first asked a court to block the move in November.

I would love to hear our "small government" fans' take on this.

I am assuming by your little comment, that you are implying that it would be "hard" for a "small government" supporter to take this on?

This is so easy to point out the need for small government, I don't even really need to say anything. The article speaks for itself. It is slapping you in the face.

Small government fears the people, big government steps on them.

So simple and easy to understand.

Maybe a bit more on topic?

So, in this particular case wouldn’t it be Big Federal Government imposing its will, (surreptitiously, no less) on poor little Nevada?

Choose wisely!

"The department led the State of Nevada to believe that they were engaging in good-faith negotiations with us regarding a potential shipment of weapons-grade plutonium, only to reveal that those negotiations were a sham all along. They lied to the State of Nevada, misled a federal court, and jeopardized the safety of Nevada’s families and environment,” [Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak] said.

Instead they snuck the stuff into the state before the state got its lawsuit together.

"Although the precise date that this occurred cannot be revealed for reasons of operational security, it can be stated that this was done before November 2018, prior to the initiation of the litigation.”

You must have missed some dialog going on here directing this at me.

Which to me implies a laughing moment toward people who support small government. Basically calling them out.

So I told him that his article supports the reason FOR having small government over big.
Small government fears the people, big government steps on them.

So wouldn't my answer to your question be quite obviously, yes?
Do you think this article speaks along the lines of "big brother" stepping all over the "little guy"?
What are your thoughts?

That would be a mistake, then.

My thoughts are that this is the government stepping all over itself, with the federal and the state level basically warring with each other.

I did say I was "assuming", and you never corrected that thought until now.

The latest filing in a yearlong legal battle asks U.S. District Judge Miranda Du in Reno to reject the government's motion to dismiss the state's lawsuit. Nevada is challenging the Energy Department's covert shipment of the highly radioactive material from South Carolina last year.

The department insists the issue is moot because it already has promised that no more plutonium will be brought to Nevada.

“DOE's decision to transport plutonium from South Carolina to Nevada has been consummated and cannot be ‘undone,'” the government said in a motion to dismiss the lawsuit last month.

Sorry, no nuclear tags back! Nevada is 'it', and we've all agreed to stop playing. Game over. Get over it.

One of the few constitutional duties of the federal government is to provide for the national defense.

Not sure whether you are arguing for or against. How is storing radioactive material from nuclear reactor waste got anything to do with national defense?
