I was told I am in stage 2 of high blood pressure. This doctor can't wait to get me on the pill.
I would like to try and fix it naturally if possible and I was wondering if anyone here was able to do it and how you did it. I eat pretty good and get exercise, so I was a bit shocked when at my physical, I was almost sent to the ER.
After a ton of research of major medical websites and many physician blogs, I don't think that they really even know what actually causes it or how to fix it safely. It is really confusing.

Hello Shempster. I can only share my experience. I went to the ER and thought i was having a heart attack. This old and wise veteran Canadien doctor told me a medicine i was on causing high blood pressure and he took me off of it. He put me on high blood pressure medicine for the problem. Well the BP medicine caused other issues. I prayed and took myself off of it. I don't recommend that but i did. I read everything homopathic. I ate onions, garlic. Whatever would lower blood pressure i ate it. And now i am totally 100% medicine free of everything. And i tribute the Lord for his wisdom and going about it. So try talking with a holistic doctor at a holistic store. Tell them the medicines you are on. He or she can give you an alternative approach and go from there. Knowledge can save your life and mine was saved to this wonderful doctor that i have not seen since. Blessings

Walk outside until it hurts in your hips, then keep walking a little bit more. Do that daily until there isn't any pain. Then start jogging mixed with walking...walk when you are tired, jog when you feel rested. Check your BP weekly, it should go down over the course of weeks without any meds. Worked for me.

I was in the exact same situation and what I did was lose 20 pounds. My blood pressure went right back down to normal. End of story.

I think there is a correlation with our diet. I have several family members who have it and I never did. But I eat very differently from them. I adopted a French diet at 20 years of age. I prepare different cuisines but the primary factors are:

Seasonal eating
Organic food
Healthy fats (I use olive oil and butter primarily)
Natural food and no substitutions (e.g., whole milk vs skim)
Herbs and spices from a spice purveyor
Avoid processed and prepared foods
No deep frying (if I want fried food I'll buy it but I won't make it at home)
90/10 water consumption and other beverages (i drink plain water most of all)
No refined products
No soda
Limited alcohol consumption (wine and champagne)
Selective snacking (most are loaded with salt)
Fresh baked bread or a loaf from the bakery

The only people I've heard of that had high blood pressure and dealt with it successfully were on high blood pressure medication, and then after beginning a diet & exercise regime appropriate to them, kept at it and eventually were able to go off their medication.

I have friends who use the aromatherapy oils and are no longer suffering from high blood pressure. Lavender is what most of them use...
here is a link that lists 11 essential oils for high blood pressure.
Also, before you see a doctor for a checkup, play praise and worship music in the car all the way to the doctors office....
DESTRESS!!! Stress causes your bp to rise....preparing you for the fight or flight syndrome....it's crazy how everything triggers different body functions to respond....stress triggers your heart rate to increase therefore increasing demands for more oxygen, thus creating the need to breath faster, causing the adrenal glands to respond to a possible "need" to fight or run...lol....as smart as our body is it can be tricked.....but stress is a MAJOR cause of high bp. another thing to consider is fluid retention....if you are retaining water then your blood pressure will be high.
Hormone imbalance can cause it to be high as well....

But most important is talk to Jesus about it...ask for healing and deliverance of this condition that has developed.

God Bless

If your weight is above ideal, getting there might take care of all of the problem.

I've seen this advertised on TV for a few months now. I'm afraid I don't know anything about it personally, but I thought it might be worth checking out as it appears to be an effective addition to or alternative to using meds (depending on how high your blood pressure is): Zona Plus – Improve Cardiovascular Health In Just Weeks

Being overweight and consuming too much sodium, are two common causes of hyper tension. Both can be fixed, without drugs.
Thanks!

I actually eat really healthy. No meat at all. Loads of veggies. Whole grains...but not too much. Lots of mushrooms. I also eat medicinal mushrooms a lot. Lion's mane. Maitake. Cordyceps. Chaga.
I have been using essential oils for 25 years now.
I did have a stint 10 years ago where I hurt my back and one thing led to another and I was on 4 prescriptions yet I just kept getting worse. I went back to my roots of using plants for my medicines and up until now, I have been off of all drugs and feel great. I must freely admit that I ate as much salt as I wanted without thinking about it. So from now on, I'm going to try and keep it down.

UPDATE: I got my BP tested today and it was fine. Now that's odd. Maybe it's the salt. Maybe stress. I have many trials attacking me right now, mostly financially.
I think I'm going to get a wrist monitor and try and pay attention to what spikes my pressure.
Maybe then I can weed out the problem. I had to do that with food too. I had really bad anxiety back then and it turned out to be caffeine! I figured it out when I got off it for a week. So I quit the caffeine and no more anxiety/panic attacks.

Having all of you to talk to helps too! Thanks and God bless.

Body mass index (BMI) - Better Health Channel

If you are overweight, which about half of americans are, much greater risk of high blood pressure.

BMI is a good tool, but it misses the mark dramatically for very fit people and especially those with a good deal of muscle mass.

According to BMI, a very fit person who is 6 feet 2, weighs 220 and is only 10 to 11% bodyfat, is over weight and near obese.

The answer is pretty obvious (but inconvenient to most), and it's diet & exercise

Eat less, eat a more plant based diet, cut out the refined sugars, and exercise.

Everyone tends to want to hit the supplements to fix these problems and while it may be nice to think that there's some magic way to get healthy while eating cake and watching TV...no such valid method exists and no homeopathic/herbal/"natural" supplement is going to change that.

Now, there are proven pharmaceuticals that work...however, you mentioned that you don't want to take those (which I completely understand wanting to avoid Rx drugs if at all possible)

You're right that it does miss the mark for those people...

However, I will point out, that every person who I've heard defend their BMI with that logic by no means fits the description of "very fit" lol.

"According to that, The Rock is obese!"...says the folks who are 240 lbs and look nothing like The Rock lol.

However, you are right in that there are better ways to measure that.

My main gripe with it is how it misrepresents certain thing pertaining to risk assessment due to the "buckets" being too broad and not granular enough.

So, when they say "if you're in the Obese category, you have X% risk of heart disease mortality". The problem is, there's a very real difference between someone who's 230 lbs, and someone who's pushing 350.

No question.

Body fat, is a far superior method of determining if someone is obese or over weight and it isnt even close.

I am 6 feet 2 qnd weigh 218 pounds. Looking at bmi, i am way overweight and close to obese. The fact is, my body fat is 13%, which is considered excellent for my age.
