Examination of conscience:

We are called to have a clear conscience toward God and toward men, in our hearts and in our minds, in our actions and inactions. To do so, it is vital that we examine our conscience daily and to ask for God’s mercy as we fall short and to ask for His strength to do better.

I confess to almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking your breast, say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
Then continue:
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

@Radagast you will have to ask @Davidnic as he linked me to this...

I am still in rcia and don't know the answer to your question

Don't worry, I answered it myself. It's the modern version of what I was thinking of. The original was intended to be said just before jumping under the blankets, so the focus was a little different -- and the wording too, it seems:

V. Our help is
✝︎ in the name of the Lord,
R. Who made heaven and earth.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: But deliver us from evil. Amen.

I confess to almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and to all the Saints, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word and deed: [strikes his breast] through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

May the almighty
✝︎ and merciful Lord grant us pardon, absolution and remission of our sins. Amen.

totally love this version!!

It seems so much better to be honest, especially the long prayer bc it says I confess to almighty god and blessed mother and the archangel and so on...

its just so much better in quality, but I do have to ask, since we are doing this at home, can we ask the Lord to grant us absolution?

Honest question. I though only a priest can give us absolution?

Well, like I said, the old version was intended to be said just before jumping under the blankets. There's a bit more emphasis on the saints praying in the old version because the idea is that they're going to be praying for you in a few minutes (after your eyes shut and you start snoring). There's no "and you, my brothers and sisters" in the old version, because the idea is that your brothers and sisters are going to be snoring too.

As to absolution, I'm not really the person to ask, but I would think that you can always ask God to forgive your sins (that's what the "Our Father" does, and that's what the old version of the Night Prayer does).

Please remember in the Congregational areas you should not teach and debate against the beliefs of that area.

@Davidnic , as a newbie I need to understand from someone like you if any of the above information is not the teachings of the RCC, lest I be misled.
