To each their own. 5 hours or 5 minutes of prayer is still better than someone who doesn't pray at all. As long as its not basically a script at this point. Like you pray for the exact thing every time using the exact some phrasing... almost as if your just rereading lines of a script at this point. At that point it can just become words and meaningless and have no heart.

What do you think If a person try to pray each day 5 hours ? I remember I used to pray like almost whole day. Then listen to christian music and just pray in my mind while sitting in chair. I felt very close to God. Do you think its good or maybe we shouldn't pray for so long?

This is how prayer works, within. It should be natural, and not forced, however. If forced, it can become as Jesus said 'the gentiles do, praying with many words, thinking their many words help them be heard'.

Prayer is not a one way street. It should be a dialogue, not a monologue.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

It really doesn't matter how long you pray, as long as you are communing with God. I can spend up to half the day in prayer, and half the day in listening to God's word. Somedays, I can spend up to five minutes in prayer and thirty minutes in the word, and still grow and be encouraged.

If one hour of prayer a day doesn't work, what will five hours do?

I prayed for my wife to be healed of Alzheimer's disease for years.

Apparently, healing that particular disease is above his pay grade.

I think that this is treating god like he's deaf or something. The more you pray, do you move up in the line to get them answered?

Men opt to always pray....without ceasing.... And most do, without knowing it...... What is your idea of prayer? what is it that you would actually be doing for 5 hours?

Have you tried fasting as well? God Bless

Best to pray in other tongues (assuming you're baptized with the Spirit)

Personally I think that it’s important to focus on the big picture. I only pray for ten minutes each morning first thing. It’s never a competition. I have a busy schedule and I’m hardly at home. Sometimes I have to pray on the go. Most of the time this is the case for me. But on Sunday I make sure to spend at least a hour dedicated to prayers.

I think it is wonderful. That was why the Apostles brought the deacons on board, so they could "give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the Word." (Acts 6:4)

Other than feeling close to God, do you feel Him directing you, teaching you, moving you, leading you to go out and pray for the sick, work with children who need to feel His love or what?

I've had long periods of fellowship with the Lord that spanned hours on a daily basis. Most of that time was spent praying for others. I'd become fatigued and too tired to pray for myself. The Holy Spirit addressed this and I found a better system.

I grew immensely during this period and developed a close relationship with the Lord. This went on for years and I believe the practice was instrumental to my faith and trust in Him. I was guided by His concerns and queried daily to discover the day's focus. I didn't understand what He was showing me until I attended a monastic weekend and realized I was doing Lectio Divina.

It wasn't a matter of prayer that I wanted most. I yearned for His presence. The Holy Spirit speaks constantly. We're often too distracted to notice.

If they can go on that long without vain repetitions, good on them.

Good point. One thing Jesus disliked about the Pharisees is they pray with "many words"

Since Jesus gave an example of a prayer which is short, it could only be either their prayers are too long or have say too many things that are worthless to the Lord.

In the monastic tradition, continuous prayer is something to be strived for in order to attain that state of closeness to God. I have nothing against it, putting God first above all other concerns. Sadly though we are lead astray by necessity or our own human proclivities.

I don't presume to know how often that happens.

I wish i could pray for five hours. Jesus could pray all night.. man.. I have terrible patience. I can up my praying time when i rely more on silence and testing my faith as i try to remember what i prayed for. Repetition is good if you actually use it to build faith and not just do it robotically. And silence gives the Spirit a chance to guide you. Praying's all about rhythm though. When i'm warmed up and into it, it's a breeze. But some days it takes such a rough time to get warmed up.

I think people have it wrong when they debate what's better fast or long prayers. I'd say there are examples in the Bible of both being effective. Think about how Elijah prayed for the rain to fall. Long prayers obviously can't fit into a heated moment. That's why short prayers have their place.
