I would certainly appreciate and welcome if you'd be so kind as to post translations for us. :)

I only know him as "Matthew the Poor" but he came highly recommended to me by more than one EO priest (more than several in fact).

(Actually I haven't watched lately but one of my favorite channels on YouTube is some sort of Coptic/OO priest who talks mostly about prayer and spiritual development - I've personally never seen any distinctions between us in that area, though of course I'm not any expert.)

Okay. Thank you, Fr. Matt and Anastasia. I will transcribe the writings and interview over the next few days and start a thread dedicated to them. :)

Just finished "becoming Orthodox" by the late Fr. Peter Gilquist. Very good book.
These evangelical pastors actually did read themselves into the Orthodox church in a way, as they were looking for the Church that most resembles the the original Christian churches and found it in the Orthodox church. And did lots of studies into early Church History.
In the last part of the book he states that he wishes there were more Orthodox churches in small towns and rural areas and I surely wish this were true in my case.

It's in my library, somewhere in storage right now. As I remember it is very interesting and important (it seems many people consider Eusebius to be the first Church historian), if not necessarily very reliable in all of its details.

Anyone have book recommendations? My birthday is coming up and I'm thinking about asking for the Legacy Icons pocket gospel book, and for St Ignatius Brianchaninov's The Arena. I was wondering if there's any other books you'd recommend or specifically if there's any prayer books that have collections of canons and akathists, so I can pray those without having to use my phone or laptop

I know there are two older volumes of Akathists, as well as a new volume from the Antiochian Archdiocese.

And what does anyone know about Rod Dreher's The Benedict Option? Is it worthwhile?

I don't know much about it, but I would say tread carefully, since he often equates conservative politics with our theology (I dunno if he does it in that book though).

Is it these 2?

Is the Antiochian one this one: https://www.amazon.com/God-Wonderfu...&qid=1547756592&sr=8-1&keywords=9781943290109

Or this one: https://www.amazon.com/Akathists-Se...1A1101ZJZ5W&psc=1&refRID=YHDDK35BP1A1101ZJZ5W

Ah okay good to know, from what I know about him and from what I heard when the book was first out I'm not surprised. I'll hold off on it for now - more edifying to read the Fathers for now
