• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

We will all struggle with mental health in this age. The flood of information leads us astray from the calm waters of God's truth. In each way we are led we are led into a dead end. We all must return to the ancient way that is found only in Yahshua.

What are peoples experiences of living with mental health in their church?
Until last month, I always kept it secret, lest I become an untouchable. When my bipolar got at of control, they usually considered it a moral failure, being undependable, etc.

Just recently, and I mean VERY recently, my church has decided to make mental health a ministry. NAMI now meets at the parish once a month. They are focusing on making the congregation aware of those in their midst who have problems and destigmatizing it.

This is mental health awareness month. They actually had me give a five minute talk at announcement time. I really got a positive response. We'll see how it goes long term.

Honestly?

99% didn't want anything to with me. The only people that did had mental illnesses themselves, or were the outcasts. I'm fine being an outcast. Most people in churches aren't really Christians anyway. God told me only 20% were actual Christians.
