Border rancher: 'We’ve found prayer rugs out here. It’s unreal'

LORDSBURG, N.M. — Ranchers and farmers near the U.S.-Mexico border have been finding prayer rugs on their properties in recent months, according to one rancher who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation by cartels who move the individuals.

The mats are pieces of carpet that those of the Muslim faith kneel on as they worship.

"There’s a lot of people coming in not just from Mexico," the rancher said. "People, the general public, just don’t get the terrorist threats of that. That’s what’s really scary. You don’t know what’s coming across. We’ve found prayer rugs out here. It’s unreal. It’s not just Mexican nationals that are coming across."

Her comments were part of a larger conversation about how many in the region believe migrants are coming to the U.S. illegally from all over the world, not just Central America.

Border Patrol and its parent agency, Customs and Border Protection, did not respond to multiple interview requests. But CBP's Arizona region issued a statement on Twitter Wednesday that said agents had arrested people from across the world over the past five days.

Undoubtedly there are Muslims in Mexico. So finding a prayer rug doesn't necessarily prove that the illegal immigrants are of middle eastern origin. However, the bigger issue is that we really have no way of knowing where these people are from and what their intentions are.

Where are the pictures of these prayer rugs? Surely those finding them would be able to provide some sort of evidence. Regardless, there are Muslims who live in Mexico and Central America, so even if prayer rugs were found, being a Muslim doesn't equate to someone who has ill intent. Personally I doubt the person interviewed in that article would know what a prayer rug even looks like. The whole article is silly if you ask me and serves no purpose other than to spread fear and create paranoia.

That’s a stretch.

It gives a list of countries where some arrested are coming from.

The point is it is not just Mexicans and Central American origin.

The OP has a list of nations the Border Patrol reports the detained come from.

Considering these ranchers are just now seeing things not before seen like prayer rugs is news. It either means other than Western Hemisphere Muslims are coming in illegally or for some reason there’s a mass exodus of Mexican Muslims. ;)

Five of those countries are predominantly Christian, one Hindu and the other folk religions and Taoism.

Stories about finding prayer rugs have been coming from the border for more than a decade and each time they have been discredited. There was one supposedly found in 2014 that turned out to be a soccer jersey.

Nonsense.

I lived in the middle east for over a year. Muslims pray five times a day. If they're traveling, they don't take 5 prayer rugs with them and discard one after every prayer. They have ONE prayer rug, and they take it with them after each prayer. This report would have you believe that Muslims are crossing the border and leaving prayer rugs all over the place.

This "report" isn't anything but a not-so-veiled attempt to sway ignorant people. The timing of this sure is convenient isn't it?

Are there Muslims crossing the border? Maybe. But IF there are, they're not out there dotting the landscape with prayers rugs.

True or not we are inundated with folk who idealize killing all who do not bow to their religion

Yes I've been in the Middle East a lot as well.

There's all sorts of reasons a prayer rug can be left hastily on private ranch property. Ranchers have sheep dogs and donkeys on the perimeter 24/7.

Yeah, and we also have folks who would have homosexuals put to death if they had their way.
You mean like in Muslim countries where in some this happens and in others mete out other punishments for being gay?

Nice try. We're not talking about Muslim countries, we're talking about the United States.

Yes but in defense of Muslims you actually made an assertion some Americans want gay people dead. That's quite a statement given the very countries some Muslims come from they do so as to avoid being killed or imprisoned for being gay.
