Where in that list did Obama promise to shut down the government?

I pointed out a quote where Trump
promised to shut down the government.

You countered with a quote where Obama promised to fundamentally change America. I then provided the list of proposed changes.

The promises Obama made are much better than Trump promising to shut down the government.

I showed you where Obama actually shut it down.
What you showed has nothing to do with Trump "promising" to shut it down.

How is a statement about shutdowns by Trump who is now president during a shutdown whataboutism? Seems pretty relevant.

I think he's just being super silly because there really is no possible way to defend Trump's incompetent and emotionally unintelligent behavior, no matter where on the political spectrum one may be. The Republicans and Democrats *did* negotiate with one another for a solution and Trump may as well have kicked them all in the face, so there really isn't anyone else to blame here.

Nothing about Obama. He gets a free pass when he shut down the government. Focus all your attention on only what you can blame on Trump.
Yes. What about Obama?

Huh?

I know there was a shutdown in 2013 when Obama was President. However, I do not recall Obama promising to shut down the government if he didn’t get his way.

Trump did just that:
“THE PRESIDENT: I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it. The last time you shut it down, it didn’t work. I will take the mantle of shutting down.”

The 2013 shutdown was over the Republican Senate’s attempt to gut a program that was already up and running, not over anybody insisting on getting something new.

The Oval Office address had zero impact.

By a 2-to-1 margin, Quinnipiac reports, Americans reject the tactic of closing the government to force Congress to approve funding for the wall. This is bad news for the president, because Americans overwhelmingly hold him, rather than congressional Democrats, responsible for the shutdown.

The White House’s ultimate weapon—a formal presidential address from the Oval Office—did nothing to shift public sentiment about the wall. Forty-nine percent said Mr. Trump’s speech was “mostly misleading,” compared with 32% who thought it was “mostly accurate.” Only 2% said the speech had changed their minds.

Just 43% said that the wall would make us safer, while 55% said it wouldn’t. Only 43% thought the wall would be an effective way of protecting the border. Even fewer—40%—thought it was essential for that purpose, and 59% said it would be a poor use of taxpayer dollars.

If Trump gives up here he gains nothing and likely looses 2020 because he betrayed his base of support. Honestly, the democrats could get the Dacas legalised as part of a compromise to allow funding of the wall and both sides get what they want.

He backed himself into a corner. He had other options to obtain support for border security and he chose not to exercise them.

WASHINGTON — The partial government shutdown is inflicting far greater damage on the United States economy than previously estimated, the White House acknowledged on Tuesday, as President Trump’s economists doubled projections of how much economic growth is being lost each week the standoff with Democrats continues.

The revised estimates from the Council of Economic Advisers show that the shutdown, now in its fourth week, is beginning to have real economic consequences. The analysis, and other projections from outside the White House, suggests that the shutdown has already weighed significantly on growth and could ultimately push the United States economy into a contraction.

Yep, it's either Mexico paying for the stupid wall as Trump promised, or no stupid wall at all so far as I'm concerned. If he really wants this wall so much, he can pay for it out of his own pocket.

It's actually kind of nice too seeing Democrats showing some spine for once.

Best way to fund border security is to take it from the bloated military budget. The amount wouldn't make a dent in that monstrosity and it would be a legitimate use of said funds....far better than maintaining troops in client nations and overthrowing governments that refuse to bow to the imperial city. Funny thing is the same lot that wants open borders also wants endless war. The so called left used to have a social conscience, so they claimed....now they are nothing but mouth pieces for the globalist elite establishment and it's hubris, violence and generally very un Christian values.

US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared for a partial shutdown of the US government - now entering its third week - to last years.

After meeting top Democrats, he also said he could declare a national emergency to bypass Congress and build a US-Mexico border wall.

Mr Trump insisted he would not sign any bill without wall funding, which Democrats adamantly oppose.

Source.

Honestly. This is just embarrassing to watch. Can someone please escort him to get ice cream with the other children while the grown-ups do some actual work?
So you don’t think it’s more embarrassing that the Democrats have been in sunny Cuba on a retreat with lobbyists partying while the government is shutdown and POTUS has been at the WH over the holidays waiting for them to care about border security, drugs and human trafficking?

Maybe the resort in sunny Cuba they were at served ice cream.

Trump would love to find a reason to declare martial law. That may be why he would like to see widespread rioting. Excuse to declare martial law and get some payback from his enemies.

Excuse me while I check on my “emergency plan”.
Trump doesn’t have to declare martial law.

A state of emergency is not martial law. And he can get the Army Core of Engineers to build it with a State of Emegency.

Contrary to what you seem to think, He has the power to build it fairly peacefully.

This is clearly not about a wall, but what a wall will do for the 2020 elections.

They will never agree to let Trump fulfill his campaign promise.

This is ALL politics.

The SoM will get an instant court challenge. That’s why brave Twitter guy hasn’t done it yet.

Martial Law is his fantasy. His dream.

There weren't any Democrats in Cuba. Yes a group of Democrats did spend the weekend in Puerto Rico at the annual BoldPac retreat. While there they met with the Governor of Puerto Rico, bi-partisan members of the PR legislature and local community and labor leaders about the recovery effort from Hurricane Maria. Some of them then attended a performance of Hamilton using private funds, the proceeds of which were to be spent on the recovery.

Even if that wasn't the case, only about 30 members of Congress, NOT including Speaker Pelosi, out of a congressional delegation of over 300 went. It's not like all Democrats in Congress are personally involved in the negotiations and the one person that really matters, Speaker Pelosi, was in DC.

This is clearly not about a wall, but what a wall will do for the 2020 elections.

This is ALL politics.
I love how people keep bringing up that this is a campaign promise while not mentioning the second part of it, that Mexico would pay for it.
