Again you are insisting upon conflating Trump talking to EX Presidents about a wall with EX Presidents actually supporting the building of a wall.
Sorry, but that was entirely your own thing, not mine. Those were always 2 separate things for me. (It's normal though to misguess what others think though)

Here's the Trump statement that we are disussing in the thread:

“This is national security we’re talking about,” Trump said. “We’re not talking about games. We’re talking about national security. This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me. And they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

See posts #2 and #3, then #8 and #10 in this thread.

We also should (continue or begin to) avoid conflating building some short sections of wall and fencing along some parts of the border as being the same as the much more extensive wall/fence building Trump is talking of, which is the issue, and perhaps that conflation (conflating building some fence vs the much more massive longer fence proposal now at issue) is the real problem here in understanding.

Example:

Suppose a 5 or 10 years ago, I supported and voted for a school bond at $50 million.

Now suppose prez Fred today claims I told him I said I wish the bond had been bigger, and agree with the need for a much bigger bond.

But I didn't say any such thing.

Fred would be lying.

You're fighting a battle you cannot win but I applaud your spirit. When it comes to hit articles on Trump posting inconvenient/hypocritical/refuting information is frowned upon, it has to be discredited, blown off as being irrelevant and/or proclaimed an outright lie. There is an old saying used by pilots and it very appropriate in certain circumstances "One pass, haul butt". (I.E. live to fight another day).

You really have to wonder why some people spend soooooooo much of their time criticizing the actions of a person that isn't hurting them? What makes Trump so much scarier than some of those who came before him, some that were much worse and were mentioned in the OP article?

All four living former presidents deny Trump's claim they wanted to build border wall

“This is national security we’re talking about,” Trump said. “We’re not talking about games. We’re talking about national security. This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me. And they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

No he doesn't and there is videos out there that prove that ex pres has supported the wall. They even voted to have the money but then didn't go through with it. Research and education is vital in this day and age.

...you do understand, the thread isn't about "which Presidents supported a type of wall" it's about President Trump's claim that any ex-Presidents personally talked to him about their supporting "his" wall. See the difference?

...how do you know they aren't being hurt by him/his policies? :sorry:

uhmmm...people talk about him because he's the one in office now. People talk about him because he's supposed to be working for us. If he's supposed to be working for us isn't it right to point out when we feel he's not doing what we want him to do?

Mike Pence Struggles To Defend Trump's Lie That Past Presidents Support His Border Wall

Its true that former presidents have signed legislation that built short stretches of "WALL" at the major border crossings.

It is not true that past presidents supported one continuous "WALL" stretching from the Gulf to the Pacific in order to deter the influx of illegal immigration along the US/Mexico border.

Next Vice President Pence will be asserting that "The Donald" has been holding "séances" in the Oval Office, seeking the support of the spirits of dead presidents for "THE WALL!"

Presidents relying on the supernatural world for guidance is not unprecedented in American politics, according to his chief of staff, Ronald Reagan's wife, Nancy, helped arrange his presidential schedule based on his astrology!

Others associated with the White House who believed in astrology include President Warren Harding, the 33rd Vice President Henry Wallace and President Madison's wife Dolley!

It makes good sense that a wall maybe an effective deterrent in urban areas and major border crossings, particularly if the wall is well patrolled.

If you can show Bush or Carter lied, as you've seemed to suggest, it would definitely be of interest here, as it appears that Trump baldly lied, right now. Be sure to be talking about the same thing as we all are, though, as distinguished again very clearly (I hope) in post #22, with the example at the end.

Not simply whether ex presidents supported improving fencing along the border in the past, which many (everyone even in the thread?) already knew they did, many of us even have heard the news way back at the time, but the actual issue here: the claim Trump made as quoted above about this new giant fence/wall support.
