Again, your persecution and oppression of the LGBT community is in no way justified by the teachings of Christ. It is directly vilified by the teachings of Christ, in fact.
Who is persecuting the LGBT community and how are they doing it?

I'm seeking advice on how to unify with people like you.
Read Ephesians 4 and every other scripture passage regarding "false teachers" and dealing with fellow Christians who are deceived.

It seems to me like they think the only thing the bible says it that homosexuality is wrong. To them, the bible is three sentences: In the beginning, homosexuality was wrong. The end.

Way overly exaggerated.

They seem to have skipped right past love thy neighbor, judge not lest ye be judged, and let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

If my neighbor was living as a liar, adulterer, thief, and I told them if they don't stop, they would go to hell, would I be judging them? Or would I be doing them a great favor, a favor you seem to think those who "love they neighbor" should not do.

Loving someone does not equate to standing by treating them as if nothing is wrong, something that is often more about the neighbor so they don't make anyone mad at them. Seriously, where is the compassion in acting as if nothing is wrong when someone has a triggered time bomb tied to their back and they can't see it?

Also, most thieves liars and adulterers I mentioned, don't advertise it and try to tout it as just fine/not sin. If they did that, they would get the same treatment. Not only do some Homosexuals with terribly cocky attitudes flaunt it, some often try to argue it OK with God, happens here all the time. People are just not going to sit there and be quiet while others try to change the word of God for their own selfish reasons, doesn't matter if they are Homosexuals or not. Yet you call that "persecution"??

Those are some of the reasons they get what they get, so you talk to them about the problem.

And how exactly does that give us a green light to oppress and persecute systematically those we deem as sinners to the point where they're committing suicide?

Explain "oppress" please.

I was interested in the thread, because of the title. But, the reality is you have an axe to grind. You unfairly judge a whole group of Christians for believing what the Bible says about one topic and you make it the focus of what anyone who would be labeled "conservative" believes? You don't even make a fair caricature! As one person said on a post about that subject yesterday, it isn't that the group holds that sin above all others, it is simply that nobody is out actively fighting for their right to be Christian and watch inappropriate content or commit adultery or commit murder or steal. When they do those things they aren't united in standing against what the Scriptures say and demanding to be treated like all the others. No genuine Christian treats allows another Christian to just walk in open sin (as listed in the New Testament Scriptures) and be considered in the faith. No genuine Christian would void the words of Scripture. Matthew 18 tells us what to do. We don't rally around the group of adulterers and demand that they have open doors and equal rights in the church and say they should be able to sleep with whoever they want. We don't rally around thieves and say it is okay that they steal. We don't rally around liars and say that lying is justified when the end result serves our purpose (like the muslims). We don't rally around child molesters, rapists, murderers, envyers, slanderers, etc and demand that in their unrepentance they deserve equal rights within the church. Why do YOU think that one group of unrepentant sinners deserves better treatment than all other groups of unrepentant sinners?

One big reason there is no unity in the visible church is because the visible church doesn't really stand for anything. There is such a diverse range that the beliefs of some "visible churches" are totally foreign to other "visible churches". Some void Scripture in their current decisions, while others value Scripture beyond anything else. Only God could bring unity among the visible churches. But, maybe He doesn't want to or even need to. Jesus described 7 churches in Revelation that were different and each had their own issues that He was dealing with. Within those 7 churches, Jesus made promises only to the overcomers. What you see isn't the church. We were warned that wheat would be among the tares in the visible church. We were warned that there would be ravenous wolves and deceptions--to deceive even the elect, if it were possible. The True Church will be unified. God will break off the lies from those who are willing, because God is God. God won't force people who choose to love their deception over Him. He will let them live where the chose to make their bed. But, for those who are willing to be transformed, wow!

Are you seriously comparing LGBT people to theives and murderers?

By "oppress" and "persecute," I mean exactly what has occurred on this thread, in comparing them to murderers and theives and treating them as such. Christianity oppresses the LGBT community.
Oppression is "prolonged cruel or unjust treatment." Exactly what Christians do to gay folks.

But thanks for proving my point further. Very enlightening.

Citation please! Show me where there is a systematic persecution homosexuals and that this "persecution" is a direct result of their suicide rates?

I don't really need to at this point. Read your own responses and you tell me whether you're being oppressive. You've compared them to murderers and implied that we treat them as such.

I think you have me confused with someone else. Did you ever get around to reading 2 Peter 2? He is discussion a similar situation that is happening now with your "Liberal Christianity".

And yes, I am absolutely saying suicide rates among LGBT people are a direct result of people like you.
Do you think this country is more or less accommodating to the LGBT community today than it was lets say 20 years ago?

Perhaps you and the LGBT community can go to Nigeria and talk to Veronica to better appreciate what "persecution" is.

I absolutely have an ax to grind with people like you. You are foul, full of venom and hatred, oppressive, and your beliefs and actions cause great harm to individuals and the community. Go [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] yourself, real talk.

And again, fixated on the gay thing, as usual. I made other assertions, such as the reality of conservative Christianity being behind racial and classist oppression as well. The KKK is a devout Christian organization. What's your response to that?

This thread is a wash. I won't be returning.

Mods, go ahead and delete.

It takes many forms. In this case, teens being sent to harmful and ineffective conversion therapy against their will by their parents. Because one group's persecution is greater does not invalidate the lesser persecution of another group. Good try though.

Homosexuality is as natural as driven snow. It occurs in multiple species. Sexual orientation is fixed, NOT a choice, and cannot be changed. Gay people are gay. Straight people are straight. Plain and simple. We need to reinterpret scripture to accommodate these scientific truths, in the same way we reinterpreted genesis to accommodate the truths of evolution and the age of the earth.

Before you suggest "praying the gay away," could you if you so wanted pray the heterosexuality out of yourself and start frequenting bathhouses?

One last thing:

You JUST admitted to what I accused conservative Christians of perpetuating. You JUST said you give them the same treatment as thieves and murderers. THAT'S oppression. YOU are persecuting the LGBT community, and THAT'S how you're doing it.

If you were treated like a thief or murderer by society, would your depression increase? And you imply that your treatment of the LGBT community doesn't contribute to their suicide rates. You're a clown. These people are shunned by society and hated by their families, because of people like you.

Their deaths are on your hands.

@Sm412 I just want to be clear. I don't hate you. I don't hold any malice or contempt towards you or the LGBTQ community. The opposite is actually true. I love you and all the Christians here. I even love the LGBTQ. Some of the nicest people I ever met are homosexual. But I also love God. And I love God with a holy fear. I want to love what He loves and I want to hate what He hates because in the end that is all that matters. Scripture is clear that God hates sin. So I hate sin too. I hate homosexuality because it is sin. I do not hate homosexuals. So I just want to emphasize that for myself and many other Christian, we are not telling these seemingly "terrible" things out of condemnation and malice. We are saying these things out of love. We love you, liberal Christians, and even the LGTBQ community more than you think. We care more about your eternity more than your present feelings. I think you may need to ask yourself, What do you care about more, the opinions of humanity or the opinion of God? Honestly, I really couldn't care less about you or anyone else's feelings getting hurt or being offended if I am speaking the truth to them in love. Yes, I truly believe that yourself and any Christian who defends and makes excuses for any wickedness to include homosexuality is deceived. 2 Peter 2 is clear and I am not being hateful or judgemental. 2 Peter 2:21 specifically says that it will have been better if you have never known the word of God than have known it and turn your back on it! These are words of love, not hate.

Remember, before God is loving, merciful, and kind, He is holy, righteous, and just. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that God loved every soul He ever thrown into Hell more than we can possibly imagine. "Savior" is a title that describes something Jesus did, He saved. "Lord" is a title that describes who He is. He is Lord of all creation. I implore you to remember that. Do you have the "Fear of the Lord" (Proverbs 1:7)? Do you fear God more than the feelings of others?

When Moses was on top of Mount Sinai, the Israelites built a golden calf and worshiped it. Do you recall what they called this calf? They did not call it Ba'al. They did not call it Molech? They said, "This is the Lord God who brought us out of Egypt!" (Exodus 32:4). Their sin was not worshiping a false god. Their sin was reducing God into a man made image that they preferred. If we call ourselves "Christian" and refuse to submit to His Lordship with the holy fear He deserves, we are worshiping a "Golden Calf" god of our own design. Not God for who He really is. "The Lord of Lords and King of Kings". So again I ask, who is Lord in your life, God or the world? You can serve only one master.

Please read 2 Peter 2 before you do. I am serious. I am not trying to be a troll. I am genuinely trying to help you understand the reality of the situation.

Okay, thank you so much for deescalating. I posted this thread swinging, and people reacted swinging, and the conversation just sort of degenerated from there. I have to run some errands and have a few classes, but I will get back to this in a bit.

Doesn't matter what the sin, but just for you, lets say they weren't honoring their father and mother, and were advocating not doing so was just fine...no I would not put up with that either. You chose to completely miss my point. If you are afraid to discuss this step by step, i would imagine that's because you know we are right. If you don't think so, lets debate it. If you can't handle the debate, then don't, and stop accusing us wrongly.

If you were treated like a thief or murderer by society, would your depression increase? And you imply that your treatment of the LGBT community doesn't contribute to their suicide rates. You're a clown. These people are shunned by society and hated by their families, because of people like you.

It depends, if I was a thief, or a murderer or the like. maybe/maybe not, either way it would be my own fault.

Their deaths are on your hands.

Go ahead, blame the messenger, we're used to it. would you like to discuss what the bible says on the issue, and why, no, we aren't at fault?
