Jeremiah 7:31
"They have built pagan shrines at Topheth, the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-Hinnom, and there they burn their sons and daughters in the fire. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing!."

Genesis 22:2
Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love--Isaac--and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you."3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about."

Isaac was to be sacrificed, but not burned alive. There is, then, no contradiction.
really?

2 "Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
3Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about."

As I understand it, the sacrifice was slain (see Leviticus) first, then burned or whatever.

Out of interest, where did the "garbage dump" citation come from?

In the KJB it reads as:

"31 They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind."

No contradiction.

The meaning has been hidden for centuries to most people .

Yahweh Perfectly Directs His People, and since His People do not often understand His Way,
He Directs them even if they do not understand.

And if you read further, you will see that God stopped him.

Why did you not quote this as well?

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

The sacrifice of Isaac that never happened because God intervened was a shadow, a picture of God sacrificing his own son to save men. It revealed Abraham’s faith, because he knew God could raise Isaac from the dead. There is no correlation to sacrificing ones own children to a dead idol, a non-god.

It seems like a contradiction if you view it on surface level. Just like Paul and Jesus - it looks like contradiction - but it's actually not. In what you have posted, Genesis, this was about Issac's obedience to God which is something shown in the Bible.

In Jeremiah, Israel really was sacrificing their sons and daughters. Human blood is not sufficient in God's eyes because we are born in a sinful world. Jesus was born in a sinful world, but God saved Mary through childbearing and so Jesus was sinless until he was placed on the cross and died for many. Only His blood is sufficient forever.

I hope that clears some things up for you. Don't forget to ask God for deeper meaning! :yellowheart:

This website does a beautiful parallel of Abraham offering his only son, Isaac & Father God offering His Son Jesus to take away the sins of the world, including yours & mine, no matter how we may mock God's Word.

Abraham—A Friend of God

Notice Abraham had more than one son yet God says, your only son. Isaac was the only son to whom the Promises of God would be fulfilled.

One only needs to do some harmonizing of Scripture to get the true meaning.

In Hebrews 11:17-19 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 19He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.

Notice back in Genesis 22:7,8 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

As for the first verse, that is pagan unbelievers sacrificing to the pagan idol god their little children. And by the way that picture of the burning of children's bodies & garbage & where the Romans through murdered Christians in the valley of Hinnom, is a figurative picture of the everlasting burnings in hell (Gehenna). So in order to not go there, one must repent of their unbelief & turn to the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive their sins & blasphemy & He will save your soul from going there & give you eternal life. Then follow Him as Lord & watch your life be transformed.
